    How good was Pavel Nedved actually? #GOAT
    New episode of a documentary series where I plan to present all the greatest players of all time and then give them a score so a ranking of the best players can be created. In this episode we take on Pavel Nedved who played for Juventus and Lazio for most of his career, not only one of the greatest playmakers of all time but one of the greatest players of all time. See how Pavel Nedved ranks and just how good he actually was.

    Pavel Nedved was such an under appreciated player. He was so fantastic that he could play anywhere in midfield, good tackler, decent heading, pace and a fantastic finisher.
    He was in my late 90s/early 2000s dream team and he would be worth at least 150 million in today's money.

      Juventus bought Nedved from Lazio for 45 million Euros in 2001 and that is the equivalent of 4.5 million grams of gold. Today the price of 1 gram of gold is 50 euros, so Nedved's price today is 225 million euros.

      He wasn't that fast, but he had good pace, I'd say 8/10 or even a solid 7. He had good acceleration... But the best thing about him was his endless stamina and he could run forever, do as much sprints as he wanted too and roam wherever he wanted.
      A very efficient dribbler, a very efficient passer (I'd definitely rate his passing higher than pace), efficient technique...
      He was one of the best players in the world imo since 2002 to 2006. Basically consisntently put out 8/10 performances, always performed. Scored many crucial goals, always pushed his team, always created something... Always worked defensively to win the ball when his team didn't have it. An incredible player. You simply don't have that nowadays, although the recent managers would love him because of his defensive work rate and pressing.

    I would just throw the icon factor and trophy cabinet out of the equation. It makes some of the best players ever end up with lower score than players that were not as good but luckier. Nedved had almost perfect score in almost all attributes playwise, but it wasn't his fault that his clubs didn't have as much success. These two scores places him next to Rooney and Beckham even tough he was undeniably better player than even some of the players ranked way above him. As a player he was without weakness, mentally he was the best leader you could imagine, his work rate was out of this world. It's not really fair he would be ranked lower than players way worse who just were more famous than him just because he was humble and without controversy, and whose teams had better luck. In his prime he was as good as Zidane, he won Ballon D'or in a competition of prime Kaká, Zidane, Figo, Pirlo, Maldini, Henry etc., and he was consistent all through his career, for most of his career he was one of the best in the world. He should be way higher in the rankings.

    • @publicrelations9612
      @publicrelations9612 Před 2 lety +1

      I appreciate this is late on but it’s relative to me after just watching… if you threw those factors out what would you be left with? How would it differentiate between the players? They would most end up with equal scores. It clear that they are both relevant. After all put Messi and Ronaldo up against each other and they would both score top marks in all. But trophies would prove Ronaldo is the GOAT. Ballon d’ors are all very well and great but Ronaldo trumps trophies and achievements / records held. Not by much but still. Also playing for more clubs and the achievements with those. Again not by much but Ronaldo still takes it. Yes irrelevant when you talk personal favourites as we all have one over the other despite being blessed with a generation with both.
      So it should stay

    • @publicrelations9612
      @publicrelations9612 Před 2 lety

      And just to add a niggling point… you might rate Nedved higher than beckham but that’s you and others who may support him. It’s still a personal preference because beckham was neither lucky or reliant on celebrity. What he may take incon factor he losses in overall trophies. But still amazing and still relevant. Having those two factors give something more tangible that can be reflected on that doesn’t relay on personal opinion of the author. It takes actual achievements into account and the opinion of the mass market regardless celeb status or influence. They are both relevant. I had the same thoughts as you don’t get me wrong as personally I rate Nedved extremely high for example as well as Figo. Figo was one of the greatest but my man is right. Outside of português and there is not a lot of recalling his influence as say there is Zidane, Beckham, Raul at Madrid. Or Ronaldo Phenom at Barca. So I get it.

    • @damasek219
      @damasek219 Před 2 lety +4

      @@publicrelations9612 I simply have to disagree. Beckham or Rooney were never considered the very top world players. Everyone who lived and watched footbal back then, knows that it was Schevchenko, Figo, Nedved, Zidane, Maldini etc. that were considered the world's top players. Players like Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard were never in that category, even though Beckham was still better than the other two. So I must disagree. Number of club trophies or fame (icon factor) can never determine how great the player was. That would make the third greatest player ever out of Neymar, greatest ever fighter out of McGregor and greatest amateur boxer ever out of Jake Paul. Number of trophies would make Carvajal and Seedorf better players than Maradona, Totti, Zidane, Ronaldo9 etc. It's not personal opinion that Nedved was bettera and it's not about trophies or fame. Those who watched footbal back then know how was which player viewed back then and Nedved was always taken as one of the world's best, while Beckham was great player that was overrated back then and now is underrated, but he was never considered to be world's top. His longevity was good though.

    • @damasek219
      @damasek219 Před 2 lety +1

      Yes most of them might end up with similar score. All the more reason why having these two categories is nonsense. Just because most of them would have similar score, you would add two completely irrelevant categories that just mess up everything? One single point can make huge difference and that's why these two categories are irrelevant. Having one great player without trophies getting overcome by a worse player with either trophies or fame, that's simply injustice. It makes no sense. We rate the players for how great players they were, not how famous they are now or in how good clubs they played for. If anything, they could be judged for individual trophies, but not club trophies.

    • @publicrelations9612
      @publicrelations9612 Před 2 lety

      @@damasek219 yes but you are saying it should be disregarded. I’m saying it shouldn’t. I’m not saying it’s the only thing I just think they should be included as are relevant along with the other factors. And of course it’s personal opinion. For one we can compare many players like for like as playing styles, roles and exact positions are absolute factors. So is Zidane a better midfielder than Figo? Yes and no based on those factors mentioned. That’s the reality of it. They had different games and different roles in midfield. In fact worked well together. But this is rating the GOAT factor and isn’t pitting them against each other in competition. That element is personal opinion. The same as you believing Nedved is the better player between Rooney (a striker) and Beckham. It’s absolutely personal opinion. Doesn’t make you wrong but we may just disagree. People in general don’t remember Figo in the same way they remember Zidane that’s just the way it is. Does it mean Zidane was a better player? No as stated different positions and roles in reality but people also have an instant option on that so it is subjective. The reason why they have an instant opinion comes down to icon factor. So it has some relevance. Also when I say people I don’t mean everyone but in general. I just can’t understand how you can say trophies don’t play a factor either. It’s not all or nothing. But it is a difference that has some relevance that’s all.

Many footballers from central Europe suffer from this image (very wrongly so for me), when the likes of Nedved, Shevchenko or Modric win the Ballon d'Or they suffer so much criticism. In terms of media and PR there is the perception that it's "better" if a player like Henry wins, even though Nedved and Sheva deserved just as much.

    Nedved didn't truly replace Zidane, Juventus played differently with him (because the club had an intelligent coach Marcello Lippi, who was then replaced by stubborn Capello who put Nedved back on the wing and failed to get the best of him). Nedved initially struggled with Juve but then got handed a new "hybrid" role which utilised his qualities to perfection: he could run, tackle, shoot, pass... around 2002-03 it became clear that he'd been wasted playing wide for Lazio all those years (and even then proving to be one of their best players). Highly rated by all his managers and many iconic teammates like Veron at Lazio and Smicer/Poborsky for his country. The midfield of Tacchinardi-Davids-Camoranesi-Nedved was the last one Juventus had which I saw really dominate games, putting the fear into opponents with their frenetic activity and fearlessness.
    It's just a shame that Nedved chose to ruin his Juventus legacy with his shadow role "working" with Agnelli.

    Please make a video about Rafa Márquez, as Mexicans we feel he’s highly underrated at least from a European point of view, perhaps he left Europe a bit too early since he choose to play in the MLS at a time in which he had offers to play for Juventus and other European clubs.
    Regardless he is highly rated by the likes of Puyol, Yaya Touré, Ronaldinho, Henry and Guardiola, so that tells you something about his quality.
    He won trophies with Monaco & Barcelona, he was captain of the national team in 5 world cups, he’s the only player in the history of football that has achieved the latter, and one of only 4 players to have played in 5 world cups.

I even had a runescape account named after him lmao he was so good at shooting with his worst foot it's actually insane! can we even say he had a weaker foot? also dribbling past players and being a complete box to box midfielder, overall one of the most complete midfielders I've ever seen. plus I thought he looked cool as hell in his Juve days with his one of a kind hair hahaha

      Btw during this period of time the Balon do'r was the secondary award to the World Player of The Year. Which in 2003 was won by Zidane. We only returned to the Balon do'r being the main award in 2011.

      @@damasek219 look, i personally don’t think that Nedved stole the ballon d’or from Henry, and im saying that as an Arsenal fan. However, most people who say that Henry deserved it aren’t entirely delusional, as in all honesty, Henry had one of his best statistical years of his long and illustrious career, and the premier league was a madness, with the manchester utd v arsenal rivalry in full swing, with both teams having some of the best players some people have ever seen.

    • @damasek219
      @damasek219 Před 3 lety +2

      @@excellenceincarnate8748 Ok , I take it back. Saying they're deluded is not correct. But they are wrong however. Henry had a great year but he was a striker in a league where the most goals are scored. Nedved was a midfielder in the most defensive and the best league in the world at that time and look at his stats, how many goals he scored. More than Figo or Zidane. He won the trophy with almost 62 points in advance while Henry placed 2nd just by five points before Maldini so it could easily have been Maldini in the second place. Btw, I fell in love with Henry in 2004 but still Nedved was more of a high quality player than Henry for me. Nedved was the top level player for all of his career ever since he started till he quit while Henry somehow rose to the peak, shined brightly for some three four years and then slowly faded so I would say Nedved is greater footballer than Henry, even though I loved Henry at the time and I liked his play more than Nedved's. But who wouldn't, Henry was the highlight player but as I grew up, I realized that there are many important aspects of the game, and in those Nedved was superior.

    Another small thing that ive noticed in all of your video: youre first language is portuguese, so you pronunce the letter "O" in that way, but when it comes to Italian players name, we pronunce it like a "Ó"...for example Baggió, not Bagg(iu)o!
