    David Villa just signed with Vissel Kobe FC in Japan a few hours before I uploaded this, that means he'll be playing with Andres Iniesta once again! 👀🔥 A lot of goals will be scored lol
    Edit: Villa is announcing his retirement at the end of this J-League season. So glad I made a video of one of my all time footballing idols. Gracias El Guaje 💜

      I read an article a few years back, in the run-up to the 2016 Euro, about a point-system ranking the best, most clutch international goalscorers (though only went back to like 1970). They only counted goals scored in actual FIFA, UEFA, CONMEBOL, etc. Final tournaments (so, not qualifying) and awarded 3 points for goals which gave their team the win and 1 point for goals that gave their team a draw. Zero points for goals scored in losses. I can remember the list pretty well, and 🇧🇷 Ronaldo had an insane 23 points. Cristiano Ronaldo was tied with David Villa at 14 points in 2nd place, though surely Cristiano has gone way past that number since this was compiled before the 2016 Euro and 2018 WC. CR7 would be at least at 20 points now, probably more. So yes, David Villa was an all-time clutch performer, very underrated.
      **And for those of you that might be wondering about Messi...as great as he is, he was very far down the list with something like 2 or 3 points. That may be more now, since he has had the 2018 WC and the 2016 Copa America...

    When talking about Villa's 15-goal season with Atletico I think the fact that Atletico won the league title that season should be mentioned. They broke the Barca-Madrid duopoly in La Liga and reached the CL final back when Barca/Bayern/Madrid were stacked as hell and completely dominating Spain and Europe. That league title was one of the greatest football achievements in the past couple decades and Villa still played an important role.
    Especially in the greater narrative of his career: Villa won the Copa del Rey against a great Madrid team with Zaragoza, won the Copa again with Valencia, won everything including the Champions League with Barcelona, won the Euro and the World Cup with Spain, and won an unlikely La Liga against two historically great sides with Atletico. He's a winner

    The reason he is so underrated is that he remained so loyal to Valencia, ending up being captain. He could have gone for a bigger club much sooner, and if Valencia hadn't had some money problems, we can't even be sure he would have left the club at all. To me, it only adds to the legend. I am a Valencia fan, and I was happy he moved to Barcelona so that he could get the titles he deserved, but his loyalty while every single big club in Europe wanted him is impressive. So many players of his quality would have left Valencia after the 2nd or 3rd season. He is such a legend.

    In Spain he was always regarded and still is regarded as one of the greatest Spanish footballers of all time, the only reason outside of Europe this wasn’t always the case was because of how long it took him to play for one of the Spanish giants(RMA/Barcelona). I think anyone in the sport knows Villa fit every definition of “world class” not only did every top club in Europe want to sign him from 2006 onwards, but there wasn’t a club he couldn’t walk into and start without any debate. When people think of Spain’s golden generation, he’s one of the first names you think of along with Xavi, Iniesta and Iker Casillas.

      No, he was underappreciated. During the worldcup a lot of people (specially the national media) were asking to sit David and start with Torres. Not to mention how for the Eurocup they wanted Raúl on the team instead of him. He was underrated for most of his career, and even after the worldcup he was barely given the recognition of having carried Spain to the finals. All the attention was put on Iniesta, Xavi and Casillas.

    • @Chris24_
      @Chris24_ Před 3 lety +1

      Germán García not true in the SLIGHTEST. The Raul thing in 2008 was before the Euros and you can understand why the people of Madrid took such a stance(Villa was also starting over Raul since the 2006 WC and had been going through 4 years of miserable form)that talk went FLAT once the tournament began though. As for people wanting Spain to drop him for Torres, as someone from Spain I don’t remember that AT ALL 🤔 nor does it make sense seeing that Torres and Villa would always play together when both were 100% fit and in their prime (euro 2008 for example, Villa plays his best football as a 2nd striker) and I fondly remember Torres being so injury stricken that season people in Spain were questioning if he should have even been called up. Where IM FROM? Since 2006 he was hailed as one of the best strikers in the world and one of the greatest Spanish players in history. The only people who weren’t aware of the extent of his legacy are the people who didn’t pay that much attention to him(people OUTISIDE of Spain) due to him waiting till he was 29 to play for one of the Spanish giants) in Spain today, some people place him on a higher pedestal than Raul.

    This is a great post and so true about David Villa. There are so many examples of his brilliance, especially for Spain's National Team during their run of 1 World Cup sanwiched between two Euro wins. Let's go to Euro 2008, the game against Sweden in the Group Stage. He takes a pass in stride from Capdevilla that is half pitch in distance, controls ball, outclasses defender, and fires home winner with seconds left. I've never seen anything like that. El Guaje was the BEST!! Thank you for all your goals on behalf of Spain fans everywhere!!

    I caught on to Villa and Spain in the 2012 Euros. Villa was just incredible. he was the icing on Spain's cake. Spain worked the ball so beautifully and this talisman just netted goals for them. goal after goal. what a pleasure he was to watch. him and Torres that tourney and 2014 WC. incredible.

    Villa is underrated. Based on his accomplishments and goals, he should be rated alongside or some say even higher than Raul, Thierry Henry, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Gabriel Batistuta and Alan Shearer.
    Why? Because he actually win games and win titles with different clubs and for his country.
    Why? Because he just scores goals, lots of them over and over again.
    Why? Because after his injury, he just scored and assist goals again and again.
    This man is the embodiment of the quick striker who just score goals.
