  • My horn isn't working! How to fix a Chevy Silverado 2500HD horn. My 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500HD horn was not working when I locked the truck and set the alarm. To do this you have to take off the front grill and driver's side headlight to access the horn. This is the same body style as 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 and 2019. I assume the 1500 and 3500 models are also the same.
    Tools and Materials needed
    Flathead screwdriver
    10mm socket
    6" crescent wrench
    Dielectric grease
    Tiny file or sandpaper
    Drill with socket adapter or regular hand ratchet
    Latex gloves optional

This channel is dedicated to teaching other contractors, carpenters, small business owners, DIYers, weekend warriors and anyone else who just wants to learn a little bit about home improvement. The full name of the company is actually Borsellino Carpentry & Home Repair, LLC but that is just too much of a mouthful! I also do tool reviews, business tips and other contractor related videos on this channel. In the wintertime I even do snow plowing videos. I try to mix it up and show all the parts of the contracting job, not just the glorious finished product. Man brotha I appreciate the vid. About a month after I purchased my my truck it was stolen. Got it back in one piece thank god. Horn wasn’t working though. Thanks to your vid I was able to follow step by step and found the perps had disconnected the horn. Again thanks bro you saved me from paying the dealer.

    You saved me, thanks. I had heard the only way to access the horn was by removing the bumper. Glad I didn't go that route!! Perfect amount of detail for the project. Had the whole thing apart and accessible in under 10 minutes.

      @@BorsellinoHomeServicespretty much a useless video I have a 2014 Silverado horn was never located at the corner of radiator instead between radiator and frame couldn't even get to it without taring everything apart

    Good job. Well described. If you took your work truck to a mechanic to get horn fixed, you would have lost the better part of a day. No income to offset repair. If a mechanic fires the parts cannon you could be into it for at least an hours labor and parts. You made a no parts needed repair. That is always satisfying.

    GM makes a non-dielectric grease for electrical connections , its yellow, found usually on headlight connections, they dont put it everywhere cause theyre cheap, get it out the door quick as possible

    Great video! My 2018 Silverado is doing the same thing when you arm the truck it doesn't beep most of the time....
    So you didn't replace the horn? You just cleaned the corroded connections and that did it?

    @santatigerclaus Před rokem +1

    look up dielectric- youll find its first duty is to do all it can to stop electricity moving between items- not what you want in electrical connections - spark plug boots yes, mostly everywhere else no

    My horn when pressing the steering wheel does not work but the panic button and lock button all make horn work any idea? I don't get voltage when pressing on horn inside cab.

    • @BorsellinoHomeServices
      @BorsellinoHomeServices  Před 2 lety

      that would lead me to believe the wire between the steering wheel and the horn is damaged if the horn works for those other things. But I honestly don't know for sure. Luckily mine was the simple connection right at the horn. There is probably videos out there showing how to take the steering wheel apart but I'd be cautious of that because the airbag

      OH NO! Did you bend it out farther than what I showed in the video? It was still attached somewhere and I couldn't figure out where or how and I was afraid of breaking it too that's why I just pulled it out enough to get my hand in there

      my 2016 GMC 2500 has 4 bolts on the headlamp also…but I chickened out before breaking stuff. The bolt is right above the horn close proximity to the bottom bolt. Couldn’t fit a wrench in to get to it, so I put the truck back together and will contemplate another approach

    I have exact same year exact same truck my horn works but when I lock it with my Fob the horn sounds really weak. What should I do? It’s a 2016 with just 34k miles taken extremely good care of it. I just don’t want the dealer to bend me over

    • @BorsellinoHomeServices
      @BorsellinoHomeServices  Před 7 měsíci

      I mean it's pretty easy to access, worth taking it apart yourself and seeing if it's just the connection

  • @Milk764

    What if it’s the key fob when you go to click it and it sound weak like a faint sound

    • @BorsellinoHomeServices
      @BorsellinoHomeServices  Před rokem +1

      If the horn is weak then this might fix it. If I remember correctly, my horn sometimes sounded weak and weird before it died. Then it would work intermittently. It's worth a try before bringing it to a mechanic and paying hundreds of dollars for them to diagnose and maybe fix it. Most mechanics nowadays are just parts swappers so they would put in a new horn and it might just be the connection! Even if you need a new horn if you go through this process and it doesn't work you can swap out the horn easily!
