It turns out I've been filling my washer fluid all wrong for years! I pour the first half quart on the ground, not the last.
I always enjoy the videos!
I usually just splash it all over the engine and whatever makes it into the reservoir is good enough.
It’s hard to argue with a method for pouring a fluid that is literally designed to be spilled on the ground.
Ray, you cad, you dragged us through a battery and oil change. Such treachery. Love your content, you always make it interesting.
I'd say we'd call that a Rayroll from now on!
@@lg3988
It's Official!
I would watch him read the Beijing phone book. And if he did it in his underwear I would pay to see that!
Never said that the treachery was on the vehicle. Still, I like the nice clean job he did on that. Really nice and smooth oil change.
Pete
Very ok
1:50 - Your already at 77% humidity, a swamper isnt going to help..
Some say, just an oil change. With Ray it is a colourful journey into the adventures of car maintenance. Thanks a lot!
Yep...to be fair here too, how many people would actually look at the condition of the threads on the drain plug, when most places would just ignore it?
@@StormsparkPegasus I was always told check the threads if it doesn’t spin smoothly
This time just bad content
At least we were able to watch the spider scramble away from the blue shower
That 100K warranty is up in 68 mi
Hyundai honestly impressed me the first time I performed an oil change and inspection on one of their vehicles, similar to this one, but I think a little bit newer and a V6. EAF was easy to access and remove, battery wasn't hidden under a butt load of plastic bs, oil drain was mess-free, and the angled oil filter housing coupled with the drain spout made it a no-mess job as well. You can tell it was definitely designed by engineers with tech experience and/or influence. By far the easiest vehicle I've ever serviced.
Nice !
I've watched several of your vids, Ray, and finding a good mechanic is one thing, but finding an honest one is pure gold. I believe that you are both. There is a stigma surrounding mechanics that is similar to used car salesmen, which is unfortunate. I understand the need to make profit, but I also believe that honest shops will produce more repeat customers. I have a shop in my area that takes really good care of me, and has even gone as far as not charging me for minor repairs because they consider me a "good customer". I believe you are one of those mechanics that I could trust, and that I would go to if I lived nearby. I have learned a lot from your channel, and I look forward to more!
I did indeed enjoy your treachery.. and your subtle way of filling the washer bottle.. very accurate 😊
I am 79 years old. When I was a kid in Oklahoma we had a swamp bucket that hung in a window, a very large unit. When it would be in the 90,s to a hundred we would go to the ice plant, buy a 50 pound block of ice and put in the swamp cooler. Made a great difference. We thought it was great until we installed air conditioning that took water out of the air rather than adding more.
ated
Ha ha, i jumped over the fence, and you "ated"
Damn whoever runs the radio is on point today! I think I heard Upchurch, Yelawolf and Cudi
Hey Ray, I’m a 70 year old service tech home with Covid except I repaired copiers. I found your channel by accident and just wanted to tell you how happy I am to have found it. I have enjoyed watching your older Vlogs because you always make me laugh or smile. You are of course extremely good at what you do. I love that you have great work ethics and seem to love your work. I pray you never loose that. Always remember to KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) problems. Thank you for making my day!!
Saw your replay ever use the phase D F O with certain customers, I am retired copier tech.
No I’m sorry I never heard of that. Worked for Konica Minolta for 28 years…That’s a new one to me.
@S W Dumb F****** Operator
THANK YOU! A shop who keeps tools and equipment CLEAN is a sign of care!
Don't forget and *tidy/organised* and I agree! 👍
well that counts him out wounded if his home looks like his work area!!!!
Swamp cooler works pretty well here in AZ.. can't imagine it does anything in FL.
Not at 77% relative humidity it won’t. I have seen small portable air conditioning units that have actual refrigeration. Some of them cool the condenser with a garden hose and then dump the heated water down a drain with another hose. That might be a better solution than a swamp cooler.
Thank you so much for providing supplementary power while changing battery. I've never had the mechanic do that for me, even when I asked one time. Almost like it's to hard. Wasn't even changing my battery this time, it was the alternator on warranty (fluctuating voltage from 13-15v). Means a lot to a customer when technician goes the extra mile, or in this case 2 inches as it's not that difficult.
Lots of jumper packs even have a 12v support outlet and sell attachments to connect to the OBD2. works great especially in hondas
Not recommend when changing alternator, especially if battery positive is in a tricky spot.
IMO anything that has power leads that connect to the battery should always have the battery disconnected. no matter how good you are, it takes a tiny slip to have the hot and neutral connect and arc out
Yeah, that isn't being lazy, it's being safe. Remember, the alternator has a very large positive cable bolted on. No big deal if you disconnect the battery, but have a battery involved and any accidental contact potentially becomes accidental welding.
But since you asked them to do that they could have at least let you know that it was a safety concern either before or after.
I spit out my coffee when you overfilled the washer fluid. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The car announces that it's too dirty to clean it's act up.
That's brilliant!
The "spin-and-run" method is a crack up lol. I do all my basic maintenance at home because i do so many miles. This will be my new filter removal method of operation haha
It is also my favorite method of doing an oil filter on a 2gr-fe Toyota engine with the canister and the Volkswagen 2.5
It's an option! Me, I got a whacking great gutter nail, sharpened it up on the grinder, and with a hammer, punch a hole into the bottom of the filter and let it drain for a while, or overnight. Sometimes a second hole needs to be punched to eliminate glug glug or let it flow better. Either way, it reduces sploosh a lot when I finally do remove the filter.
Have you tried the spin off and run method for the drain plug? crack it loose, and SPIN! if it aint bound up it falls out and you dont get oil on your hands

"Oh, that's all I've got. About 18 inches." The part of my fossilized brain that has never matured past junior high is very impressed!
That's what she said giggitty
Works also as a belt.
...for her
Ah, nothing like a stream of used oil in the morning. It resembles my first cup of coffee ☕️.
Ray, I love your attention to detail in all the work you do. Even when you put the paper floor mat in, you make sure it's facing the right direction! 😁
Well he does NOW... he used to put 'em in upside down intentionally knowing we'd go REEE
To think I've been adding something so simple as washer fluid DEAD WRONG my whole life... This changes everything.
You gotta pour some out for the dead homies.
@@eli1214 apparently pour a LOT out...for said homies. 😔
A perfect example of the ole adage "If 1/2 gallon is good, then 2 gallons are 4 times better'. Right?
It seems like I spill a lot more this way but if I didn't I'd have no reason to use two cans of brake cleaner every time I fill up my windshield washer fluid.
Gotta make sure the lines are purged
The APU to preserve presets -- GENIUS ! I've never seen anyone else do this.
I enjoy the maintenance and oil change videos as much as the major repair videos. Something therapeutic about them.
Man it's the little things you do that make you great. The average mechanic would not worry about radio settings and keeping power to the module while pulling the old battery. Great customer service sir.
I noticed one comment mentioned that it’s just an oil chain to most people but, with Ray it’s a journey. I have to agree. It reminds me of when I was a kid and watching the Wizard of Oz.
Don’t leave the TV because you might miss something. Hurry up go to the bathroom during the commercials.
I like to clean the floor with washer fluid too sometimes
Nothing like Ray in DA MORNING!!!
I did have a good day today, lots of clickage, ( I was installing a suspended ceiling grid ) and no doo dee doo dee doos. Thanks for continuing the positive vibes!
Oh boy!!! Oh boy!!! Thank you Ray for whatever my “prize” is. I received your message moments ago about the great gift you have for me…..LOL.
I love how dramatic that brake fluid intro was.
The washer fluid is blue so you know it's good. 😊
I remember that from science class - "negative and opposite of negative"!
LOL, this mechanic's treachery made me laugh so hard!!
Why is it that they put the heaviest part of a car other than the engine block (the battery) in such hard to reach places? I just spent three days trying to get my Mercedes battery which is extra large and extra heavy out from under the front passenger seat. Had to buy a special tool because I am old a frail and can no longer lift twist suspend and twist some more.
can never be too careful with the washer fluid
Treachery appreciated
Again Ray demonstrates he is a master of the long distance pour. Love the content Ray! As a disabled person, your videos are fun to watch, entertaining and a highlight of my day. Please keep them coming sir.
Went back and watched and liked a bunch of your old videos, quality, lighting and audio on mew videos is so much better! Thank You!!!
Best one-armed mechanic on CZcams
Great vehicle Service video @Rainman Ray's Repairs
87F in the shop!!! I wish the temps here were this low LOL
Temps in the shop I work at in Dubai range between 102F and 118F throughout the day
Florida sounds like heaven to me
Absolutely love the content that you provide everyday
Another battery and oil change video. That was awesome. Have a good one
Ray just a quick note, I have one of the Port’O cools for my home shop. I let the pump work the water for about 10 minutes to soak the card board fins, then I turn on the water. Anywho, keep up the good work and the videos. Great to see you on Arods powerstroke live feeds as well.
How is it possible that those battery cables were not violated with a spinning metal brush 🤔
Thanks for the video Ray. 👍👍
That's nice of you to not let the vehicles lose power.
When Ray didn't take it for a test ride and didn't hook up the scan tool, I knew we were in for something simple.
Simple = spaecial....
Ray thank you for the treachery video as always I found it to be another entertaining one. And it brings a smile to my daughters face when you copy the phone ringing
That was a nice car for 100k miles. Not like the crusty rusty cars that usually come in. Congratulations to the owner for looking after it.
Ray I’ve been watching your videos for about a month and I’m starting my first day of UTI on Monday. Your videos help me understand the kind of mindset I should have when working on my car, but more importantly others and I thank you for that 🙏
I hope your UTI clears up.
@@AiMR Yeah, I would suggest cranberry juice.
If they don't see washer fluid dripping out, they won't know it was filled. Proper procedures followed!
Please don’t spill washer fluid. It’s a good way of killing cats. It both smells good to them, and is highly toxic to them.
Does not matter what you are doing Ray, I am retired and enjoy just hanging out with you! Any knowledge you pass along is icing on the cake ! Guess the scammer got tired of us insulting him as he has left the building today.....
Thanks man! Have a nice day!
Love the washer fill! Every time!
If you can move clamp by hand it cannot be tight enough. Lub would not go a miss on clamp bolt.
I would have used 5W-30 which is also specified in the owners manual as an oil to use if 5W-20 is not available. 5W-30 will give better protection in the hot Florida weather .
Superb 🤣. You should do a Michael Buffer intro one of these days for shits & giggles.
Ray, it was very conscientious of you to replace that drain plug with chowdered up threads. A lesser technician would have thrown the old one back in, not caring if it was cross threaded or not sealing properly. You are an asset to the automotive technician profession.
You were discussing the fan at the beginning. I used to work for a welding fab shop. We had some NOS, 3 ton package units on the hill that was never used on some projects 20 years ago. I brought some down to the shop, built a stand to set it on and put a power cord on it to use in the shop. If you were with in 10 feet of it you could reap the benefits of the 100 degree high humidity days here in Oklahoma.
THANK YOU for doing all your video in "Landscape".
Great close up of the battery installation procedure. Ye haw.
I've binged enough of your videos now that the sound of that phone haunts my dreams
If so-called mechanics didn't tighten drain plugs like wheel lugs, the threads wouldn't get stripped. But the fact that they do is one of many reasons why I don't let mechanics work on my cars, unless I absolutely cannot do the job myself.
I would probably trust Ray more than I trust myself, though. With all the apathy and incompetence nowadays, its a pleasure to watch someone who has mastered his job, performing it as efficiently and effortlessly as he does.
Heck, I wish mechanics wouldn't tighten wheel lugs like whatever they think they're tightening them like1
I do all the work myself.. I tighten every bolt to spec... It's my car and nobody else can work on it but me
Spin and Run ... very good Ray
I have been fooled again. Another battery and oil change video. The running commentary is worth it.
Where I am at in Georgia I've never noticed any extra humidity with the swamp coolers. It is already so humid here it doesn't matter. The cooler air is all that matters
Nobrainer Monday? Lucky you. I started my week pulling dashes. Ford Fusion Evaporator temp sensor and I got yet another F150 dash I gotta pull to yank the evaporator and heater cores... my knees... MY POOR KNEES RAY!! 😭
Morning Ray, thanks for the trickery, lol!!!
If you press up on the skid plate at the drain plug you should be able to take it out no problem. I have done many like that.
Love the TITLE. sounds like Wizard of Oz line 😁
Ray you are a great CZcamsr. You have great dialog and are not boring or monotone. Keep up the great work.
Well done, Ray. I'll bet that was fun.
That washer fluid process went exactly like mine lol :D
I always enjoy a good oil change video!! Nice.
About 10 mins 25 seconds Upchurch holler boys was playing 😂
Trickery and treachery Ray but still worth the watch.
The washer fluid refill was priceless and too true.
Pwahahaha 😂 🤣 👍
Ray, I got that scammer today pretending to you. I usually just report em but I noticed one of the options is a choice to mute the sucker. Glad to see YT reacting to an existing problem. Way to be proactive YT.
Ray Ray your the man educator of the new zoom plastic cars , thanks we appreciate your style.
end of video. perfect jam to end it with. Day N Night
Ray. I like the spin and run method. Will use in the future. Thanks
Yep humidity 100% can't go any higher
Yea, we love your treachery! Why not.
Love your washer fluid technique, I'll have to adopt that method 😀
Extra washer fluid for cleaning the oil spillage ….. makes sense. 👍
Excellent video, loved the SMA banner.
I love how the first thing I noticed was Ray listening to upchurch I was jamming lol
I don't know about anyone else but I actually enjoy the simple maintenance videos, I guess sense I do mechanic work as well I just enjoy doing the maintenance more than getting down into the nitty gritty not saying I don't cause I really do I just like the relaxation of doing an oil change and topping off the fluids and what not. So i'm not gonna complain about these types of videos =P
You have caused me to spill more oil my engine attempting the high pour than I care to measure. Glad you showed the method for we amateurs.
I find it weird how some people prefer humid hot, but slightly less hot, and others prefer much more hot, but dry hot.
I mean, it's not that weird, humans are as diverse as the cars we drive, but heck, it's just strange that one man's comfort is another's misery.
BTW, you are such a nice mechanic by connecting that jumper like that. Most mechanics aren't that thoughtful. I wish they made an actual plug dedicated for "low amperage systems only" the fuse box for doing that, though. Make it nice and easy.
p.s. I recommend Simple Green Max to clean up oil.
Aww, you didn't clean the connectors!😢
Love the videos Ray
Hmmm. never thought of adding an auxiliary power source to keep the radio presets and fuel trims saved.
Just watch out that the +ve battery lead will still be hot once the battery is removed - hence if it drops onto the body it will result in a short
Check out the MS4000. Plugs into the odb2 port.
@@tjbrower does the same thing with the fuel trims, etc?
@@cogentdesign yes, saves all memory. It basically powers the computer so you don’t lose anything. Works well.
There is no reason to worry about fuel trims when replacing a battery.
That moment of confusion before you realize Ray has TWO HANDS!
Good batteries have volts. So, when you replace a dead battery, isn't that revolting?
Waka waka!!!

Hardy har, but it's Re-amping.
I wish my mechanic would try to save all my electronic settings.

Ok Ray...
The psychology is getting better.. ( or you're getting bored 🤔)
You hinted at but didn't show us.. The Devil is in the Detail and No B S mood today...
1. A few small leaves on the filter and the air intake tube but no clean ..
2. Battery corrosion but no 'that's better - nice and shiny ' clean of the terminals
3. Swapping the reconnection sequence of the leads
4. Check charging voltage after fitting the battery
5. Oil cap but no alignment to the right way up
4. No brake cleaning of the old oil filter and drain bolt afterwards
6. Floor mat mysteriously turning around at the end.
And many more .... you're not playing with the minds of us long termers are you....? 🤣
