- More 928 Content coming soon- also another few secret projects that aren't quite done yet. However, please enjoy probably one of the most specific aftermarket parts that exists. It's a fix for an option on a car that isn't even a US Spec.

If you wanted another layer of unnecessary complexity - you could add an accelerometer and more code, to perform an "auto level" function on each engine start - like many modern cars - and get it to set the correct angle to the lights dependent on rear passenger (lol)/luggage load. Which would also allow you to add more comments to your code 😀
Which honesty would be an accelerometer module and like… 5 lines of code. That’s a good idea! Wouldn’t be too hard at all.
I'm genuinely loving the madness of this... How about a head mounted sensor so you could angle the headlights closer or further away as you look up or down?
It's becoming more German than OEM!
@@WesleyKagan "Wouldn't be too hard at all."
Famous last words
This is starting to sound like a watchmaker’s idea!
No matter if small and specific or big and crazy, You always make it a Quality work.
Thanks! Sometimes I think it’s overengineering though
@@WesleyKagan In a world of underengineering; it's a breath of fresh air.
@@gafrers You woke up and decided facts only.
Looking forward to more 928 content. Also hoping you'll be continuing the XJS content. You're right on my favourite era of cars :)
Absolutely more 928 content, I’m keeping this car forever. The Jag is a different story haha
Excellent Engineering man !!! Love To see people use 3D printers for solving problems. Nice Servo and code!
Thank you very much!
@@WesleyKagan I’m an aerospace engineer that thinkers a lot but never thought of Using a Servo to drive linkage like that - especially on the light system !! Super imaginative!! Keep up the excellent work.
Are the SolidWorks files for the actuator avail at your linkage ?? I can now think of many things to do with that system! Thanks!!!
Keep them coming !!!!!!!
All I can say is you’re the only one I keep refreshing for. More and longer videos are mandatory from one of the smartest guys on CZcams and probably the planet. That’s you Wesley!
Curious if the 928 lights could be modified for side to side rotation like modern BMWs. If so, then you can have these follow the road as you turn. Love the idea of using an accelerometer to keep the lights level through acceleration, breaking and various load levels. Keep doing what you do!
Yes! More 928 Content... Dude you're amazing.
I have a ‘79 928 5-sp. It is a little underpowered, but I love it. The vacuum system is kind of a pain, but otherwise, it is bulletproof.
Your videos fall in line so well with my interests. Got everything from car mechanics, to electronics and even C programming. Sweet jesus! 🦃
Great to hear! Thanks!
I’m adding that linear servo design to my list. That’s awesome work!
Thanks!
This was the perfect bit of CZcams having spent a frustrating time trying to get my engine to do more than fire occasionally. Oh, and I love 928s. Last one I drove was a dog but made the journey to the very North of Scotland fun.
Loving the content, especially 928 and jag projects. Keep up the great work
That's some really cool homemade linear actuators 😁👍 love creative and functional mechanisms like that 😁
I’ve always loved the 928
Here for the 928 content baby!!! Love the mod that is sweeet. ‘85 US & ‘84 Euro owner and I’ll be waiting for the dank ‘28 content
Always love seeing a new post from Wesley.
Always a great video, Wesley. Thank you!
Nice. I’ve had a bunch of 928s (3 right now), but never had a working headlight adjustment system. At one point I tried to buy all the stock parts to put an adjustment system in a us car, but even if you can find working parts there in not a great way to bleed the system.
Great video and an innovative solution, Wes! I have a 1987 S4 that's exactly the same colour - Grand Prix White with Burgundy dash (my carpets are white and cream leather seats). Looking forward to seeing the next 928 video.
I'll be on the lookout for more content. I've always wanted a 928 since my father had one when I was a kid.
You are amazing love the fix on headlights!!
Love your content man!
Looking forward to more 928 content
Great video 👍I'm sure many 928 owner's will watch and build your mods!
Continuing to love the content!
aw hell yeah! simple but does the job nicely - love it!
You have to be the coolest youtuber out there, great vids!!
Wes you are as impressive as you are entertaining friend. Rooting for some more good videos and your channel growing.
Brilliant. Love these little interludes of over engineering :)
Been a min budd, nice to see u still doin vids.
Love that you're a 928 Enthusiasts as well. I know it is crazy but a Manual transmission 928S4 or GTS is my dream car
Yeah, they are all going up. My first 928 was a ‘78 for $1500, and had a brand new set of $1000 tires
I thank you dearly for this!
Love your content man! Keep it coming
Thanks! Will do!
Using that same servo for a DRS in a FSAE car. Can say it definitely will hold the lights in place
Very nice solution. This adjuster on my 928 does not function, I had assumed it was vacuum actuated, now I know different, thankyou.
nice video i love the 3d printed solution 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Good work man
Love that car... When I saw it for the first time back in the '80s, I thought it was a spaceship... 😍
It does give off those vibes. I’m working on a video about how influential the 928 was in design.
This will bee an amazing journey!!
Love your content. Makes me want to learn CAD again.
It’s a useful thing absolutely
YES! MORE!
Another absolute banger from this channel
Thank you!
I’m working on a project where my Pontiac G6 will have adjustable headlights like pickup trucks with a tow package does. I was thinking of using an arduino and a knob from a Toyota. And possibly in the future making a fully automatic headlight adjustment
I fell in love with this car after watching Risky Business ❤️😁. The chase scene with Guido the Killer Pimp is epic 80s! Sometimes you just gotta say “What the f@ck” and restore a 928.
Love your channel. Please do a video deleting that stupid secondary air pump!
I’ve always like the 928…
I remember when they were new in the late 70’s
Awesome content.
The 928 was such a peculiar old beastie. Should be fun to see how you decide to improve it, since no vehicle in your care can just be left as-is.
Are you ever gonna post/work on that beautiful C3 behind you in every video? It's such a tease every time I see it!
OE servos for low beams are 12v from parking lights with something like 1-11V out 1-4V signal for adjustment, retrofitting is easy as you just need proper movement range and ball joint size. You get also adjustable "zero" position, which is really critical to set correctly
Also, IP44 and up, correct temperature rating etc
Great video thanks Barry Uk
Made me look at this vehicle. An oddball with potential. I like it.
Another vid, nice!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Great vids
Nice linear actuator 😀
What material did you print the ball bearing race from? I would have thought the bearings would eat thay plastic in time. Nice use of ots bits to fix an otherwise expensive problem though.
So cool!!
what happened to the solenoid valves on the mx5?
928 is my favorite Porsche...
Same here! I love them.
@@WesleyKagan There so weird and the opposite of general Porsches. Plus there really pretty! And there engine makes a great table "Top Gear"
Nice elegant solution!
Thanks!
This is such an elegant fix, loved it! 3d prints for the win!
a Porsche is Porsche no matter how you look at it! :P Nice to see more content. Cheers!
More to come! I agree haha
is it possible to get the cad files for the boxster trans to m137/m275?
Any Idea about a timeline for Wind Tunnel Pt. 2?
I am also building a wind tunnel and I am struggling with measurements. I can't find the right arrangement of load cells to measure both lift/downforce and drag accurately at the same time
Any details on the green machine that Jeep should have always built?
More free valve tech! Dino numbers after conversion over stock numbers.
Awesome!
on the solidworks file, did you extrude-cut a circle along the spiral and then fillet or are you cutting with a solid?
can you do a video on ignition timing including idle speed? is it 800 rpms at idle? what is ignition timing at Initial and Before Top Dead Center? 36 degress and 31 degrees?
Very cool. I do not miss my old 928, but would masochisticly own another
Yessss.
Good old Porsche, do hope my engineer gets around to restoring his but life has got in the way and his place looks so sad with half broken cars...although he is doing cool things with 3d printers.
Thanks for the upload with i had some CAD skills but without a proper functioning keyboard/mouse makes life hard the things we sacrifice to eat
Very nice
Great stuff short and sweet. Still like the long videos but these shorter ones would be better if they’re more often.
Sorry for bothering but is there any updates on the mechanical computer? I always check this channel every month or so because that video intrigued me
When you put it into the car, what Arduino board do you actually use and do you just power it from the 12v car system or drop it down to 6-7v via a DC-DC converter?
This is an interesting video. I've been interested in 928's. My first thought was, why is this system needed at all? Is this Porsche's version of the manual adjustments used on most cars? And to make it hydraulic seems like a very British (cough Jag) solution. I imagine a US company would have used vacuum. You came up with a nice solution though.
Its for compensating for cargo weight. Not really that relevant on a Porsche, but if you load a car full of people and stuff the rear will sag and the headlights will point to the sky and blind other drivers. Its regulation in Europe to have a manual adjustment in the cabin or automatically leveling headlights. The normal adjustment is still done with the screws around the headlight I assume. On most European cars of the time the adjustment is vacuum operated afaik.
@@banaana1234 Thanks for the info. I did not know that was a required feature in Europe.
Hay i have ford probe rear wheel drive mod motor,97prbe spider 😊not done but had too have rear wheel drive,,,that rubber time -belt,in your car how long will it lasts
Will there be 928 Free valve tech swap on the table?
FreeValve the thing!
Love it
This is perfect i can probably modify this to make a set of bullet mirrors powered!
Probably! I really like my design here, I think that’s a first
@@WesleyKagan you should like more of your designs, you've got some ingenious solutions. Personally I wanna adapt the free valve clone you came up with for my mgb motor some day.
@@quatre1559 If he gets it working better I'd love to adapt it to the GM ecotec head. I've got a 2.2L that I'd love to have FreeValve tech on... The only sucky part is that I wouldn't be able to pass inspection in my area with an aftermarket ECU... 😞
If you can fix the Pathfinder one headlight on low beam issue. I know i can just run a other power wire.
928 is just a great look car too
4:15 Agreed, Season 4 of Community wasn't that bad.
very cool
Season 4 of Community was definitely mailed in though
I would definitely do a LeMons team with you. We would definitely have the coolest car.
If it was my project: and ill make these connections waterproof
Me: proceeds to wrap electrical tape around it
Me: thatll do pig, thatll do
i got a question about your 60's f1. On the boxster the engine is rear mounted but your build is e mid engine so you have inverted the rear and the front of engine/gearbox. So you changed the engine direction of rotation, right? how did you menaged to do that? i guess you needed to reset the timing belt, cams and spark, using the same degrees but in the opposite direction and using an external waterpump, am i right? (soory for the bad english :D)
928 has been on the ownership list for a long time. I assume you have seen the LS swap kits.
Great solution. Can't imagine what an oem replacement system would cost, if you could even find it. How often were these originally even supposed to be adjusted? Was this just an unnecessarily complex aiming screw?
Pretty much. Someone wrote up a fix on rennlist years ago, but it was refilling the system and I didn't want to deal with that. Quicker this way.
Its for compensating for cargo. Not that relevant on a Porsche, but a family wagon could be driven to work with one person, and then loaded full of people and stuff in the evening. This would make the rear sag and the headlights point to the sky and blind other drivers. Afaik it was (and still is) regulation to have an an adjustment dial in the cabin or automatically leveling headlights.
Is there any update/news on the V12 corvette?
Have you moved on completely from the freevalve miata build? I know you said you were going to move on for someone else to take over, but I didn’t legitimately expect to go a year with no more freevalve miata.
Cool I hear the electrical can be a nightmare. ie dont try to upgrade the stereo with amps & sub the electrical wont like it. Lol
#1👍🏻!! 💪🏻
I agree the 4th season it's not bad... I'm still waiting for the movie tho...
Liked and subscribed. Mainly based on the "cocaine white" comment. Plus the excellent content.
I love the loop() code comment!
Was the ball-worm mechanism your idea or part of the original piece?
Freakin awesome
Thanks!
