  • We recently found out in the Bad Batch that Clone Commandos are being used to train the new TK Troopers for the Project War Mantle. Will these mutated clones stay loyal to the Empire?

What he tried to explain is this video is that the loyalty of commandos is not guaranteed. Palpatine could easily give Commandos access to recruits and resources only for some savy Commandos to create their own personal army. They cannot be trusted to not defect, rebell or be corrupt if things are not going to their plan. If they are dissatisfied, they have enough knowledge to do considerable damage. Like the CIA and the Contras in real life.

yeah but the training the commandos had vs the training the storm troopers needed was vastly different. for example the commandos were trained to operate in small units and handle covert missions like espionage, assassination, and sabotage. they were not trained to operate in larger units on massive battle fields which is why the commandos that were deployed improperly during the invasion of geonosis were almost completely wiped out despite being extremely skilled. like generation tech said the type of special forces unit that would have done well in training the storm troopers were the arc troopers, clone commanders, or even just loyal clone troopers. clone comandos would have done well in training imperial commandos and possibly isb agents but not traditional military combat personnel.

Actually, the clone commando units are perfect for training future Stormtroopers. They're being deployed to snuff out extremists and insurgents, usually using commando tactics, and clone commando units are well-trained for such operations. Rampart made a very shrewd, but wise choice. Also, many commandos stayed loyal and joined in on the Jedi-killing back in Legends, so they're still loyal enough to be good for training future Stormtroopers.

Considering how the relatively small size of the base, and how secret it is, its possible that the Clone Commandos aren't training common TK Troopers. Perhaps they were meant to be more elite troopers meant for espionage and sneak attacks like the Clone Commandos. Perhaps these troopers will become assassins, future royal guards, or other more niche and elite units within the Empire.

Well, it's been explained that Palpatine had essentially inherited this business called like Damask Holdings or something like that from Plagueis after he killed him. He was basically able to purchase/use the various assets of this vast business to get whatever he needed done through essentially back-room deals and have it kept completely off the books of the Republic and the Empire if necessary.
In Legends, this was justification for how he had built facilities like Mount Tantiss and the Emperor's Citadel on Byss and work on massive projects like the Eclipse, Galaxy Gun, and Sovereign-Class ships (As well as the funding for the Clone Army of the GAR if I remember correctly).

Clone Commandos and ARC Troopers both in EU had extreme individuality. If Null ever comes to canon they will be the only clones without chips. However, most Clone Commandos in the EU post first battle of Geonosis were pretty much rushed into the SOBDE and recruited out of the regular ranks, same with ARC, examples like Corr, Fives, Echo were all regs before special forces. The fact that most of the CCs in War-Mantle have nothing distinguishing their armour likely indicates they were just recruited out of the shit kicker ranks.

To me, it makes sense from The Empire's perspective to have Commandos training these new brand of troopers. They want to get these troopers off to a good start, so have the best of their existing military take charge of their training. Meanwhile, use the regs to maintain The Empire as it is, and have the TKs take over when they're ready. Yes, Commandos are significantly more independent than their reg counterparts, but just like the Bad Batch, they likely don't have anywhere to go. They may not agree with the transition, it may even sicken them, but they may not have a choice.

  • @NerdWithGuns

While overall the commandos are more independent from the rank and file, to say they’re inherently disobedient towards the empire isn’t quite right. Sure SOME commandos deserted, but even at the end of the war there were still enough loyal to the new Empire to create a whole division of the 501st out of them, the Imperial Commando Special Unit. Honestly, I’d say the biggest reason why commandos deserted was Skirata. He treated his commandos has his own sons and sowed an inherent distrust in the republic within them. Remember, Omega Squad planned to desert from the GAR, but Order 66 just happened to be issued on the night they were going to make their break. From what we’ve seen, commando units from other Cuy’val Dar trainers remained mostly loyal to the new Empire, like Delta Squad, even though their sergeant, Walon Vau joined Skirata on Mandalore.

  • @Longshanks1690
    @Longshanks1690 Před 2 lety +16

I think you should look at this less from the perspective of Filoni and the writers and more the perspective of an Imperial bureaucrat, which is what Rampart is since he’s not likely to have had much field experience.
It would stand to reason in their minds that the most highly trained soldiers in the GAR would thus make the best teachers as well, and they wouldn’t consider that Commandos were trained for specialised missions and not as part of a regular peacekeeping force, which is what the TK program is actually trying to create.
The Empire has always been plagued by these sorts of inefficiencies which showed why they were unable to suppress the rebellion effectively as their technological supremacy could only carry them so far, so assigning the wrong kinds of trainers for the future stormtroopers makes complete sense to me as I could see someone like Rampart, and even his superiors like Tarkin and Palpatine, having this kind of simplistic, narrow minded approach to the creation of the Imperial military, as it would explain the systemic problems from here on out.

The Republic Commando novels were thrown out of canon, even before Disney bought Lucasfilm. So Omega Squad already doesn't exist, and what we saw of Delta Squad may not even be the same unit.
Plus, the clones in the RC novels didn't have inhibitor chips, so everything we knew from there means nothing. These commandos are probably in about the same position as Crosshair, at best.

I can imagine some of the clone commandos staying with the empire because they agree with it like crosshairs does and some decided to leave the empire.. they did adopt mandalorian beliefs and culture and there have been lots of examples of mandalorians both siding with the empire and apposing it.
I also think it would make a good arc for the bad batch season 2 too have a spliff between the commandos that stay and the ones that abandon the empire

I think the ARC Troopers would be a much better fit for an elite 1st croup of Stormtroopers, since they are elite troopers, yet also lots of them were just regular clones with a new training an mentality, and were shown as loyal, order obeying, yet independent and elite in combat. They are also, afaik, more abundant, so an elite stormtrooper battalion following the ARC doctrine would probably make much more sense

I guarantee that in 30 years the entire legends continuity will have been officially re-installed as DISNEY Canon once so they can milk it just as if they released it themselves. Boss makes some sense.
    Fixer follows orders.
Sev, if he survived is somewhat possible.
But the heart of Delta? The joking, wisecracking, comedic yet effective commando training the Stormtroopers to be disposable?
The same Scorch who lost his shit when Sev was captured/killed?
The same Scorch that said damn the orders, go back for him?
The same Scorch who cracked jokes and bantered with the team to alliveate tension?
    That Scorch?
Mabe if Sev was killed by a Jedi he trusted while Scorch watched, but thats the only way I can see Scorch going from Comedic killer to silent solider.

I think its more of a logistical issue. The Republic, now the Post-Order 66 Empire, has the majority of their rank & file clone troopers in security details. Thus the Empire is technically using any & all forces they could spare to train naturally born people into soldiers, thus Arc Troopers, Commandos, & more are technically the only clones they could actually spare for training.
Now, there is something I believe is overlooked: Stormtroopers aren’t army nor navy troopers, they’re different. As such, it makes reasonable sense that the kinds of soldiers best suited to storm into enemy spaceships & such would be Clone Commandos, not rank & file Clonetroopers. Go over Germany’s WW1 & WW2 Stormtroopers & it’ll all come together…
