Yep! Folk metal. It's actually a massive genre over in Europe, with a wide variety of sounds based on the country/region. Check out the song Trollhammaren by Finntroll for a totally different take on folk metal.
Folk metal is probably one of the largest metal genres here in the Nordic countries.
There's also Russian folk metal. There name uses Russian characters, but here's a link: czcams.com/video/9vLupooVhsc/video.html
Leaves' eyes please!
@@OsirisNeits Grai is cool, as is Arkona
ain’t based in geography at all bc here in Brazil we also have folk metal bands with european influence haha, the core is the chosen culture and not exactly where it existed, for example Eluveitie is Swiss but has a lot of Celtic influence from many Celtic places/countries
This band is so underrated. One of my favorites, been bumping them for years
uhm no they're not underrated at least, in the metal music industry..
YAY! ELUVEITIE! Thank you, Tia :D
Oh! More ELUVEITIE? Okydoky. Try:
ELUVEITIE - A Rose For Epona
ELUVEITIE - Omnos
and songs with the new female singer:
ELUVEITIE - Rebirth
ELUVEITIE - Lvgvs
Awesome!! Thank you for all your suggestions!! 🙏
And if you wanna hear the other side of Anna (this singer) then check out quoth the raven and/or the siege
Criminal lack of Inis Mona
Also King, Epona, Slumber, and Worship are great songs too!
Your Gaulish War, Lament are good
I love Eluveitie, one of my favourite bands. A band that is damn good live. Another song of Eluveitie that is recommended would be Rebirth, the song would be with the new new singer Fabienne Erni. Another band I have discovered recently would be FROZEN CROWN an Italian Power Metal band with a very good female vocalist. I would recommend the song Neverending.
One of my favorites by eluvitie is Inis Mona need to check it out as well sometime!
Sweet! I’ll definitely have to check it out!
@@TiaHope I second Ryan's suggestion!
A rose for Epona is a good one too
This is in the Swiss Alps in Central Europe. It‘s a Band from Switzerland 🤟😀🎤🎸🇨🇭
I like that this is an actual reaction, instead of pausing at certain points and rambling for minutes.
Hey Tia, nice reaction. The wind-instrument he played was not a flute, but a tin whistle. There is a larger version of the tin whistle called the low whistle that they use in some songs too. This is one of their softer songs with only the female vocals of Anna Murphy who left the band in 2016 together with guitarist Ivo Henzi and drummer Merlin Sutter. They founded the new band "Cellar Darling". Since 2016 the new female singer is Fabienne Erni and she is a great vocalist too. In an interview she was asked how she handles the older songs originally sung by Anna and she said "I don't try to copy the previous singer, she has her voice, I have mine, if I would try to copy it, it would never be as good as the original". In most songs Christian "Chrigel" Glanzmann sings and screams in his harsh death metal voice. Just try out "King" ( czcams.com/video/-AawUSC6hGY/video.html ) still with Anna, but she has not the vocal lead in that one and only plays the hurdy gurdy (she screams along with Chrigel, though). Actually the main singer in most of the songs is Chrigel. There are subtitles availiable for "King". For Anna as lead singer I would suggest "Omnos" ( czcams.com/video/msRy4vcSX4k/video.html ) where she sings in Gaulish or "A rose for Epona" ( czcams.com/video/_1lXdLus2WI/video.html ). Epona was a celtic goddess and people offered her roses or rose petals as a sacrifice when they prayed to her. They made a song called "Epona" for their second acoustic album "Evocation II: Pantheon". It is sung in Gaulish, but this time by Fabienne, I think I gave you the link for the video with the translated lyrics in my comment to the poll.
I’m so glad you let me know which wind instrument it was! I was in band all through high school and never once saw a tin whistle! & I love how it sounds like the new singer is so confident and stayed true to herself! That must be a tricky place to be. Thank you for all the information and song recommendations!
Annah Murphy and some of the other members left to form Cellar Darling, Fabienne is the new vocalist and Michalina is the new Hurdy-Gurdy player
The singer here, Anna Murphy, has her own band now, Cellar Darling. Try their song Avalanche.
And the line between rock and metal is pretty blurry - lots of crossover. Black Sabbath, Motorhead, and Halestorm are all straddling the line. Halestorm's Lzzy Hale calls the band hard rock, yet she's also high on the list of female metal singers.
Cellar Darling ❤
funny how black sabbath are considered to be between rock and metal, considering how they are recognised as the creators of it
@@bigfrankfraser1391
Their proto-metal isn't quite as hard as metal evolved to be.
And by definitions set by metal 'purists,' Black Sabbath doesn't qualify as metal. 😁
@@garyballard179 then "purists" are far from pure, saying black sabbath isnt metal is like saying sex isnt fun, its easy to say but a load of shit to hear
Just saw them last night in Worcester, MA. Of course with a different line up than is in this video. They are still an awesome band. You should check out Cellar Darling....The girl singing here, plus the drummer and the guitarist with short hair. They all left the band in 2016. I got to see them live last year, opening for the band Katatonia. 😁
Du sprichst uns allen aus der Seele und darüber wie sich das Herz fühlt.
How did I miss this video!? Awesome reaction to one of my favorite bands. They have so many great and interesting songs that you can't really go wrong with any of them. I would absolutely love to see you react to them again. You just look like you have so much fun with it. Just awesome to watch. Keep it up!
I’m glad you found it! I loved how unique their sound was!! I will definitely listen to more in the future! I’m so glad you enjoyed! Thank you!
Haven't seen this as an Eluveitie first time reaction in awhile, usually it's Rebirth. Saw them live back in 2019, would of saw them again this year, but we'll you know. Great show to go see.
Hopefully you can see them again!! Maybe next year, fingers crossed 🤞
One of my favourite bands, one of very few folk metal bands I like and easily my fave of the genre. I do prefer their heavier stuff though.
Rock and metal are very similar, but I tend to differentiate them based on the technicality of the guitar and drums and the tone of the instruments. Hard rock and heavy metal are very similar in ways, but when you get deeper into the subgenres of metal, they are a lot different than just your basic or modern hard rock.
Eluveitie is the old Romanic name for Helvetia, aka Switzerland. It's pronounced El-Vai-ty. I think. I'm from Belgium, Flemish part, so what do I know, eh.
you know jean claude van damme
@@onearthonelegion Nope. Heard of him and saw a movie in which he appears, but I don't know him.
Oh amazing. Thank you for the translation and pronunciation guide!!
It's actually Etruscan and not Romanic. And it means "the Helvetian" not Helvetia.
Since Eluvetie are from switzerland they have a version where they switch between all of the languages spoken in switzerland which are swiss german, french, italian and english. Eluvetie actually is the gaelic/celtic name for Helvitia/Switzerland
Really enjoying your reaction videos!
Love your reactions! New sub! The flute like instrument the guy is playing is an Irish Tin Whistle. As to the line between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, there is a lot of grey area there, and it can really be pretty subjective depending on the individual too. To make it even more confusing, the line is constantly shifting. Many songs that were considered heavy metal 30 years ago would be considered hard rock today.
Thank you so much 😊✨ I’m glad I finally know what that instrument is. It was bothering me that I had to no idea! & The genres definitely seem to blend quite a bit! Very interesting!
OH GOD! I came for the reaction, and stayed for your wholesome beautiful peaceful everything good vibe, I fell in love with you :D
This band transcends rock and metal, throw in some Celtic and Swiss to get Eluveitie.
I've completely forgot that this band existed(probably because I don't really listen to folk metal)... But their are a few folk metal bands that i like:
• 和楽器バンド(Wagakki band (translates to "traditional Japanese instrument band")) - 千本桜 (senbonzakura (it translates to "one thousand cherry blossoms")) (folk metal)
• Nine Treasures - Bodhicitta (folk death metal)
• Unlucky Morpheus - 滝谷者姫 (takiyashahime) (gothic folk death metal)
• Brand of Sacrifice - Eclipse (Blackened electronic slamming folk deathcore)
• Warkings - odin's son (Viking death metal)
Now, for the difference between rock and metal... It's actually pretty complex because there is a point where the genres touch. Like for an example "Queen" because some would consider it rock and others would consider it heavy metal. I can't really explain the difference between it because after a while of listening to metal you just kinda get an ear for telling if it is metal. The reason why it is complicated is that in the 60's when metal was first created it was created from acid rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, and blues rock. So, there was this transitional period where it was betwixt and between--niether metal nor rock. It wasn't until Black Sabbath that it was distinctly metal. Or atleast that's how I remember the story going. I remember watching a video about it and I found it. So, here's more about the transition period: czcams.com/video/dSIf_KVNsqg/video.html
Also, with the band I will have in the future I will lean a little bit into folk.
I love how you included the subgenres of the song! I’m a big fan of the show, Vikings, so I really feel drawn to check out the Warkings. I’ll definitely have to look more into the origins and beginnings of metal! I took a music history course in uni but they didn’t cover metal music at all! Thanks for the video to check out!
@@TiaHope It's not a story the Jedi would tell you!(lol) Yeah, the history/evolution of metal is especially interesting. What is even more interesting is actually the origin of metal screams because it is quite possible that it has a way older than expected. ( czcams.com/video/JnQamJtPNOQ/video.html )
@@TiaHope If you would like to dive into metal a bit more, there are some DVDs about metal music you may want to check out:
"Metal - A headbangers journey" The product description on Amazon says: "Sam Dunn, a 30-year old anthropologist, decided to study the plight of a different culture, one he has been a part of since he was a 12-year-old: the culture of heavy metal. Sam sets out on a global journey to find out why this music has been consistently stereotyped, dismissed and condemned and yet is loved so passionately by its millions of fans. Along the way, Sam explores metals obsession with some of life's most provocative subjects - sexuality, religion, violence and death - and discovers some things about the culture that even he can't defend. Shot on location in the UK, Germany, Norway, Canada and the US, this documentary is the first of its kind. It is both a defense of a long-misunderstood art form and a window for the outsider into the spectacle that is heavy metal."
and
"Metal Evolution" this was a documentary-series with 11 episodes, on VH1 I think, touching many of the subgenres of metal. Very informative. I just realized that these are also availiable on CZcams czcams.com/video/UMwcihWT37E/video.html
Yep! It's Folk Metal. Eluveitie are a Swiss folk metal band. In Europe and a little everywhere in all corners of the world there are Folk Metal bands or bands with Folk influences on them. And, like many others genres of Metal, there are bands in the genre that sound completely different one from another. If you listen to the songs "Bloodywood - Yaad" from India and you listen to "KORPIKLAANI - Vodka" from Finland you will see that they are different. Or if you listen to "Arandu Arakuaa - Aruanãs" song from Brazil and "Wagakki Band -- Senbonzakura" from Japan they are completely different style of songs. That's the beauty of Folk Metal in my book.
I enjoy folk music a lot so hearing a heavy metal version was new and amazing! & Woah, So much diversity! I definitely would love to hear all the different sounds and styles! Thank you for your recommendations!
Eluveitie is the best band I have seen live and I didn't even know who they where when I bought the tickets. Absolutely spectacular show, they did this song in Gaulish that time, and it was the new singer but it was just as good (but different). Why not try Rebirth next (for even more instruments, and the new singer).
Oh that’s such a fun surprise for you!! I’m so glad you got to experience them live and loved it!!
One of the best live bands Skalmöld, if you like icelandic viking metal😊
Hi, Tia. Greetings from Paradise. If you want to hear the new singer Fabienne Erni with all the variety of instruments from Eluveitie, look for "Epona". And if you want more of former singer, Anna Murphy, she has a band with another former members of Eluveitie. It's called Cellar Darling.
Oh great! I would definitely like to check out more from both singers! Thank you for your recommendation!
If you want to hear more of Anna Murphy, you should check out Cellar Darling (her current band)
Eluveitie's current singer Fabienne Erni is also amazing, by the way.
Check out the Spell for more Cellar Darling. She plays a mean hurdy Gurdy as well. Lol
Eluveitie"quoth the Raven" is a good one I like "a rose for epona" but I like the acoustic version best "omnos","brictom"and "isara" are good too also
Epica ft. Floor Jansen "sancta terra"
Delain ft. Marco hietala"sing to me","control the storm"and "the gathering"
Delain "stay forever",we are the others","stardust","April rain","and "lullaby"
Kamelot ft. Simone Simmons "a haunting(somewhere in time)" live
Kamelot "March of mephisto"
All very good songs hope you check them all out
Switzerland 😍 🇨🇭
this is one of my favorite bands...they also use the hurdy gurdy in a lot of songs.
Something even more amazing about this song is that when they play it live they ask the crowd what language they want it performed in. They do it in four different languages, including Old Gallic, which is a dead language that no one speaks - but they'll play the song in it!
The female singer Anna Murphy is no longer with Eluveitie , she has her own band called Cellar Darling.
Thanks for the great reaction. Never heard of these guys before, and me like, way mucho! I'm going to have to delve a bit deeper into this group.
Oh great!! I’m so glad we could discover them together!!
“Epona” may be a bit more your speed but “Rebirth” is amazing!
Beautiful song and great reaction. ✌🏽
It really is & thank you!! 😊✨
Still making me happy :-D
Yes, this is folk metal
Hi Tia! Great reaction once again 😊 I recommend "Rebirth" by Eluveitie. Rebirth is from their latest album, and they now have a new female vocalist.
Loves Eluveitie! They are considered a metal band because most of their songs are a lot more metal-ish.
React to "Rebirth" (official video) and you will see. You should also react to "A rose for Epona" which is more rock-ish like this one, but better in my opinion, and "Ategnatos" which is a very epic song. "Sleepwalker" is more metal and powerful. And try "Ambiramus" for something you could almost classify as pop.
You have seen the landscapes of Switzerland in the middle of Europe.
Tia - Anna (vocals), Ivo (white guitar) and Merlin (drums) are now together as Cellar Darling. You should also check out a live version of this with Fabienne, Anna's successor. She and Jonas (Ivo's successor) have their own side-project, Illumishade. 🤘
Lovely reaction Tia! You should check out Cellar Darling to hear more of Anna Murphy's beautiful vocals!
This should be a Lord Of The Rings sounds track. Awesome reaction.
I love that you're basically doing a bunch of my favorite bands. Lol I'm having so much fun. If you haven't done anything by White Chapel may I recommend When a Demon Defiles a Witch?
Yes!! Totally 🙌🏼😊 I had no idea most of these bands even existed! This channel has brought all this amazing music into my life! :)
You are on a nice run with the songs you been listening to lately.
Fun fact: They actually have a German, a French, an Italian and a Romansh version of this song. Check them out, they are even better... :-)
I like their newer stuff like Rebirth.
I'm a huge sucker for symphonic metal.
Me too! I love it! 😊🙌🏼
Metal comes from its name. When playing the guitar, it gives out the metallic feel for example Metallica. Listen to their guitars. It’s in the intensity. Some metal bands can scream at some bands like Eluveitie don’t really have to but if you listen to king from them. You will be blasted off of your seats lol
Yes I subbed because Eluveitie is my favorite band together with Epica 🙂 Great reaction to this awesome talented Folk Metal band! Pls check out and react to some great songs with their current gorgeous and super talented singer Fabienne Erni. Songs I recommend are Ategnatos (OFFICAL VIDEO), The Slumber (OFFICAL LYRIC VIDEO), Epona (OFFICAL VIDEO), Worship (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO) and Ambiramus (OFFICAL VIDEO). I saw this band last year november together with Lacuna Coil and Infected Rain, and I can tell you it was the best gig ever! Eluveitie is live on stage so so so good! Have fun with your journey!
Eluveite-Rebirth
My love, Anna Murphy, leader in Cellar Darling.
Your boyfriend is right about the difference between rock and metal. Is not just one thing and it is a very thin line, but there's definitely a line. The more metal you listen to, the more you can tell the difference. For example, some bands that are often wrongfully called metal are AC/DC, Evanescence or Ghost. There some indicators, though: if you hear blastbeats on the drums, someone shredding a solo on the guitar or harsh vocals, it's definitely metal. But, as you just heard, you can still be a metal band and not do any of those things.
He will be glad to hear that! I’m definitely going to be listening to see if I can start to pick up on those differences!
You should react to Your Betrayal by Bullet For My Valentine!
Hey, check Korpiklaani - Tequila 😄 You won't be dissapointed 🤣
What is the difference between Rock n Roll and Metal...well that is a good question. Well, as a Metalhead from the mid 80s, 1987 to be exact, I would say the difference is like say rock music from the 60s to 70s is just pure Rock. Some bands that started in the 70s, like KISS, Black Sabbath, Nazereth and maybe a few others that are a bit before my time may be considered metal, but to anybody who grew up in the 80s like I did, they were pretty tame compared to what hit in the 80s with Hair Metal and Thrash Metal. KISS is straight up '70s Glam Metal. And they never really changed, which was a bit disappointing if you ask me. I would have thought that would have adopted a heavier sound in the 80s, but they didn't. Black Sabbath is probably considered the first true heavy metal band, but again, their early stuff is pretty tame.
But regarding the musical elements that make rock music metal, is heavier distorted guitars, more aggressive lyrical themes and vocal styles. You see Rock was a genre that evolved out of the Doo Wop era of the 50s. It kinda started with Elvis and maybe a few other artists. Metal started in the 70s, but really got going in the 80s as a rebellious reaction to 70s Disco.
Lol tia I have another recommendation lets see so Japanese metal!!!! Deviloof-Duskyvision
Look up Sam Dunn and his Metal Family Tree for a excellent breakdown of the huge world of different metal genres
you REALLY should check out Anna Murphy's (the singer) new band Cellar Darling- Avalanche. it's my favorite. oh and she also plays the hurdy gurdy in that music video! czcams.com/video/NWMiBj0yDJg/video.html
The lines between rock and metal are somewhat blurry and subjective. To me, genres are just something that exists to help us organize, classify, and identify things better but not to be taken to heart and often the best music will blend and mix styles in new or unexpected ways or go in a direction that defies established tropes and expectations.
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 well said!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
please react to "rose for epona - eluveitie"
Isara
The border between rock an metal doesnt really exist, one just becomes the other somewhere along the way down the spectrum of how "heavy" it is
You beautiful 🌄❤️❤️❤️❤️
Rock and metal overlap a bit. There´s no escaping that. :)
Yes, an overlap! That’s a great way to describe it.
