    Anna Murphy is an incredible singer and plays the hurdy-gurdy. Awesome reaction. Folk metal is the genre and it's amazing

    The band’s name is pronounced „El-veytee“, the „u“ is dropped. Anna is no longer in the band, her current band is Cellar Darling, worth checking out. The new singer is also the singer of Illumishade, also worth checking out. Different vibe, but great album. For a more recent song, I strongly recommend „Rebirth“.

      For the second Reat is Rebirth to hard.
      I find "Alesia", "Ategnatos" and "Epona" better for the next React.

      Rebirth certainly would open a Kpop persons eyes ;) I recommend Epona from Evocation II (since shed did Rose for Epona), it will introduce her to Fabbie.

    The album Helvetios (which this song is on) is a concept album based on Julius Caesars conquest of Gaul (modern France and Switzerland) but through the perspective of the Gauls. Its an incredible album, but knowing the history of the region its also full of sadness.

  • @Maggot91ify
    @Maggot91ify Před 2 lety +9

    The band are very influenced by Irish and Breton folk music (to a lesser extent Scottish). Their name is taken from the Helvetii tribe, a Swiss based Celtic tribe (they're a swiss band) Their genre is mainly a mix of Folk Metal (some may use "Celtic Metal" if they want to be more specific) and Melodic Death Metal (this would be among their more mellower tracks). The man in dreadlocks with the beanie playing Mandola is the founder, named Chrigel. He usually does the vocals for the band and plays the most instruments them being the tin/low whistles, bagpipes (mostly Irish Uileann Pipes), harp (not so much now) Mandolin, Mandola, and Bodhrán. The female singer is named Anna Murphy, she was a long time Hurdy-Gurdy player and singer for the band. She left along with guitarist Ivo Henzi and drummer Merlin Sutter in 2016.
    The flute would be a Tin Whisle which is an Irish instrument, the bagpipes used were likewise Irish (Uileann Pipes) those (as said above) were played by Chrigel, the beanie wearing harsh vocalist.
    The song is part of a concept album about the Gaulish War, a war between the Roman Republic and the tribes of Gaul (modern day France, belgium, switzerland and Luxembourg more or less) Epona was a Celitc/Gallic goddess associated with Horses (Gaulish word for Horse was Epos) so the song is meant to represent a Gaulish woman asking whether Epona has forsaken them and why (more or less would be the theme of the song)

    You kept looking for a way to describe their sound? Celtic. They sing songs in Gaulish (a now dead Celtic Language from the continent), they take in a lot of Scots and Irish folk melody into what they do as well. But Eluveitie is swiss, and the name of the band derives from (h)elvetios (“the Helvetian”) which was the name of a major Celtic tribe in Switzerland

      If you like Eluveitie, i recommend Cellar Darling too, the actual band of Anna Murphy (singer) after she's left Eluveitie. "The Spell" live perfomance is FREAKING awesome.

    great movie, I'm glad that I can finally see the reactions of someone who doesn't listen to metal, because it's hard to watch a movie where I know that someone knows and likes this specific genre and your reaction shows a collision with something completely new for you. maybe you will record other songs of this band, e.g. tegernakó my favorites or from .darkness. these songs are more death than folk.ps you are a mega sweet and positive girl I will watch you whenever I am in a bad mood because you will infect me with energy .

    The song is about melancoly and desolation. You must understand when The romans were defeating The Celtics, Celtics were resisting AND being defeated, but some celtic people were running to The British islands. So this song Is about something like The feeling Of being abandoned

    Inis Mona is my favorite of this band. They sing in a dead Eastern European language, mixed in with English. I would have been surprised if you knew all the lyrics 😁 The weird instrument is a Hurdygurdy.

    • @ralflukas9695
      @ralflukas9695 Před 2 lety +5

      Sorry to correct you here, but "dead Eastern European language"? Actually their Metal songs are usually all sung in modern English.
      The dead language they use in their acoustic and more Folk like songs (like "Omnos", "Brictom", "Lvgvs", "Artio", "Catvrix", "Epona") is a reconstructed form of Gaulish. It was used by Celtic tribes from all over the European continent, not only the East. It got extinct at around 500 AD and there were some variations or dialects of Gaulish in different regions of Europe. Gaulish was reconstructed by Linguists by using inscripions found at archeological sites from all over Europe and parts (like grammar or pronounciation) of languages that are of Celtic origin and that are still spoken today, like Gaelic, Welsh or Breton.
      You are right with the Hurdy Gurdy though. There is a great video on the channel of Eluveities current Hurdy Gurdy player Michalina Malisz, where she explains how the instrument works: czcams.com/video/QfP2qYlNBdw/video.html

    you thought it was scottish because it's a folk metal band that mix metal with celtic culture (pre-roman and pre-germanic europeans, the same ethnicity of ireland and scotland before germanic and roman invasions of britannic islands). but eluveitie is indeed from switzerland
