This has to be one of my most favorite builds. Partially because of the build and mostly because of your excessive amount of detail and honesty. You are a true craftswoman.
I built custom exhaust for the better part of 20 years. Whoever built that set of headers for Sarah is an absolute artist. That is premium work at its best. They should be damn proud of themselves.
Yes.. yes he is. He was a former spaceX welder.
Couldn't agree more that's some craftsmanship I bet Elon has one nice set of headers on his space whip And probably a far cry better than what you could get over at wotto's junkyard over in Mos Espa Tatooine for that X-Wing Fighter 😅
Yes, beauty!
This, this is why we need shop classes in high schools, so kids can learn problem solving, design creativity, basic understanding of what they’re even driving around in and how things function! What am doing, what do I want it to do, how am I going to make it functional… then come up with the plan, build it, found the issue you didn’t know about, redesign and make it better. It’s not a failure, it’s learning.
yes, even short course repairing car give some experiene thinking, problem solving, patience, finding data, gain skills, frustration, happines when succes. And maybe learn standard sizes of drills, bolts and nuts as bonus. And it can be darn interesting too.
We need more of that in NZ too mate. And we used to! Now it's gone, everything is worse.
Our rulers don’t want a populace capable of critical thinking.
As soon as you laid those old harnesses on the engine my anxiety meter blew right through the redline. 😱 I have enormous respect for anyone who is not intimidated by that part of the project. In fact, should you ever need to expand your business I think you would be inundated with local clients who need their vehicles’ electrical issues repaired. Great video. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
Wiring is super simple, you have to understand basic electrical fundamentals and just take it circuit by circuit. You’ll see when I start doing the wiring videos.
@@SarahnTuned I have Lucas level electrical skills ~ going to be watching with notepad in hand
@@SarahnTuned totally agree first time i did an engine harness once u strip out the stuff u dont want its like super simple
Well done Sarah! A place for everything, and everything in its place is the way to go.
Absolutely. Terrifying!
I just enjoy hearing you think out loud!!
Great shirt album, band, concert, songs....the list goes on and on. Glad Goldie has a new heartbeat!
I don't know about anyone else but I'm sooo looking forward to hearing that engine start up for the first time. Kudos to you for ducking the electrical gremlin potential with those old janky harnesses and jumping to a new one. The time you save is worth the money it cost (but maybe not what a video troubleshooting may get you), especially for the mental anguish bypassed!
Enjoy these projects while you can. My friends and I are all too old and feeble to crawl around and under vehicles now. We might be able to get on the ground and under it but getting back off the ground is the problem! The days of working 8-12 hours at our jobs then crawl around inside the engine bay of the 1980 dodge 024 with the vw drive train are long gone. My 2 brothers and I would argue about who gets to drive the all manual clunker with no a/c, no radio. Mom thought we must have been on drugs to want to drive that instead of anything else available. It was ours, we built it from parts of 3 cars and it passed safety and emissions inspections. So it was blue, gray, yellow, and primer. Matching paint doesn't make it run better! It was a true peasant car and we loved it.
Sarah is absolutely fearless. No, there are not an infinite number of wires in that harness. No there are not an infinite number of devices being connected. No there probably aren't any extra wires or devices involved, so everything should connect to everything. Knowing all of the devices and all of the wires connecting them is what makes the impossible possible. Sarah knows this. That's why this is her favorite part of the project. And why it would be neither your nor my favorite part. But like I said, Sarah is fearless. Absolutely!
I'm glad you're building your own harness. I was practically yelling at the screen when you kept talking about cobbling together old harnesses. Like, you're BRILLIANT with wiring, you have the skill to do it right, you might as well do it right.
I was obsessed with wanting OE wire colors lol 😂
@@SarahnTuned 🤣
I was thinking the same. A new harness with OE wire colors would be the hot ticket... if you can find those wire colors. BTW I think it would be cool to see Sarah lay out the wire harness on a big board.
YES! I want to geek out on that! @@michaelblacktree
Having done auto wiring for decades. It's a blast watching someone do it. 😂
It truly is fun, I rewired a few B809D aircraft generator sets that caught fire before, and a couple dozen -86’s, it’s like a car but with quadruple the wiring.
Second only to your attention to detail, is how impressive it is that you do so much of this stuff on your own.
As a Japanese,I am very proud of your attachment to TOYOTA CELICA.Thank you very much❤
I hope you purchased a “Japanese Muscle” Celica T-Shirt @kyosin1995
You will make your friends envious because they are awesome! 😎
@kyosin1995 , except for car enthusiasts buying Nissan Fairlady (240z in US) and Bluebird (510 here), many in the US didn't buy Japanese cars until petrol "crisis" in the 1970s. Regular people bought them for fuel economy, but cars like the Celica taught them that Japanese cars could be fun!
@@panamafloyd1469 teenagers into sporty cars loved these early Celicas. They called them Japanese Mustangs 😊😎
@@mrh3085, I still remember the first one I ever drove. Girlfriend of mine had one, I think I might have scared her a bit on that windy road. I was already one of those sportscar guys. Lil' Celica certainly didn't need as much maintenance as my old beat up Triumph GT-6! 😆
The Celica is looking so great! All your painstaking work is paying off. You make it so fun to watch you perform your craft. Here is a short list of some of your qualities that I admire…..Making automobiles look and perform awesome. You, looking and being awesome. And last but not least, is your sneeze swallowing skills. Thanks for your hard work! Can’t wait to see how excited you look when you give it THE BEANS!!
There are left hand drill bits, they might be handy for drilling out broken bolts/studs. And I can't believe you don't have an air compressor! You MUST get one!
Yes, but also, if you just need to blow bits off of stuff, get a USB charged hand blower. Substitute for compressed air cans. Not perfect but you never run out of cans :D
To be honest an air compressor is becoming a niche tool. Most of the tools one would traditionally use with an air compressor can be found with a battery attached these days, they may even have better specs and utility over the air versions. I use mine as an air duster more than anything else these days. You can even buy those.
Cheap 1,5 hp compressor herd in over taxed Europe cost about 100 dollars, not best for painting but enough drive dust and debris away.
@@PetrolJunkie They are kinda handy for getting air into tires though. Air tools are fairly light, low tech, always ready.
@@3ducs I actually use a protable battery powered inflator most of the time. Set the pressure I want and walk away. It'll stop on the mark and do other things while It's working. Since 90% of the time I'm only adding a few pounds it doesn't take more than a few minutes.
Like I said, most everything you can do with an air compressor there is battery powered tool that can replace it.
In my experience, dragging a hose around makes the air tools more cumbersome even if they might be a little lighter.
I LOVE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR AND KNOWLEDGE OF CARS! COOL!
Sarah's obvious joy in this video is totally infectious 😊 Congratulations on the installation!
Our Sarah does it her way and that is why we watch. Fun to watch and educational at the same time. Can’t lose with Sarah’s way. From the garage to the shop and beyond, here there and everywhere, our support is here. Press on Sarah! Yeah buddy!
850 videos is an amazing achievement. Congrats. Keep going!
Your building skills are off the charts! Thanks for taking us along on this build.
This is the best thing since Project Binky. Awesome job!
Did they ever finish that thing? I lost interest after several years.
Snap I forgot about those guys 🇬🇧
Make the noise...
YES! The AIC Dirt shirt is everything!
This just keeps getting better and better. This’ll be a lifetime joy for you, Sarah!
Dedication to detail. Outstanding.
Like the special effects, especially Quagmire. Thanks for putting in the extra time and effort.
This car is going to be...
*So.*
*Freakin'.*
*Awesome!*
Constantly amazed and humbled by the depth of thought and the attention to detail you're putting into this project - Bravo!
as an internet watcher of car stuff, you are now officially my no. uno fav. Really love the humour, the f***ups and the real stuff that happens in a diy workshop. Keep saying to myself yep done that one. Keep up your hard girl beating the old farts that litter the tube.
Aloha Miss Sarah! CONGRATULATIONS WOO HOO WOO HOO! So pumped to see the engine in. Keep on keeping on sista!
🤙🏻
17:00 I'm sure, you won that mental battle!
Your dad has to be SO proud of you! Really great videos and wrench turning!
We are witnessing a genius at work ( yes including cleaning ) a standard that almost no one meets
Excellent job Sarah 🏴👌
Sarah, your excitement is absolutely tangible ❤
Oh, creating a wiring harness, to fit the car, perfect.
This attention to detail warms my heart.
Facts on the steering.
I owned two Celicas in this vintage and a total of 5.
None had steering issues. On dirt roads these things were dreamy little drifters.
I've run out of clever ways to say how much I enjoy your videos. This Celica will be an awesome beast when you finish it. Thanks Sarah!
12:14 - Bless you.
You are 100% right in choosing a new harness. You'll make it look right. Best to have the piece of mind with all new wiring. And I love that you explain things and debate out loud when making decisions.
Please show the wire harness build in detail
Oh, will do! You’ll have a few videos on it.
12:14
Bless you! ❤
I think you made the right decision. A clean, correct length, custom harness will look so much nicer.
The AE86 manual steering rack is perfect for this application.
Like 1.2 K ! I'm impressed with your wiring skills .
The sneezes are everything❤
How you didn't sneeze in the second timeee😂😢
Buy Cobalt Left-Hand Drill Bit for removing bolts. So many times the drill will grab and the bolt will come spinning out. It's a source of never ending joy!
New harness. Definitely the right choice
Maybe bulkhead connectors and simplify/customize for the car? Wiring harness is too important not take the time to make clean and protected.
-Premonition is the word. Forshadowing. Forseeing.
Nope, only OE Toyota plugs
That scene at 6:30 is just pure cinematic gold. So stylish! I love your work.
Commence the spaghettifigation of the engine. Sarah-n-Pasta .
AWESOME step!!!!! Congrats Sarah!!!!
Comedy chops are completely on point - Outstanding! oh and by far this is my favorite build, loving this car.
OMG Sarah, that car is going to be absolutely beautiful when it's finished. I'm so looking forward to seeing you road test it when it's all done.
Nice to see the engine in its new home.
Lookin great in the Alice shirt!
Lol! Love your humor along the build.
Reverse drill bits are awesome as well. Sometimes they will grab enough to loosen or remove broken bolts in a blind hole. Great job!
wow...engine going in...go Sarah
But..............coming out again
that car is turning out to be just as beautiful as it's builder. real competition for her looks. i would love to drive that car
I absolutely love this car so much! So fun to see it come to life over time especially the painstaking detailed way you put it together... You're the best restoration channel on youtube!
Lol loved the Dumb and Dumber reference. Keep up the great work!
if you're using an old factory harness, the best way to do it is to de-pin every connector on the engine side, mount the ECM and route all the wires. use new connectors and re-terminate the ends (the old ones will be brittle and break anyway), trim as needed to make a nice fit, then loom & wrap. there's no "cheap way" to do wiring, but if you have it already and you're using the stock ECM, saves a couple bucks re-using. all you'll need on the power side is the 12v connections to fuses & relays. i like using a 6 circuit relay box that's separate from the vehicle fuse box. keeps it easier to troubleshoot later. 👍
Yeah, problem is there’s a few dry brittle plugs. I weighed the pros and cons and it would have been more time effective to start from scratch.
@@SarahnTunedOne thing that can be easy to mess up is that many oxygen sensors rely on pulling air through the wiring harness to feed the chemical reaction that makes it work - between the strands of the signal and ground wires. Splicing here can cause issues with O2 sensor readings if hydrocarbons get in that air path (some electrical tape adhesive will off-gas enough) or the air path is blocked, for example, by soldering the connection. We had a customer do that on a batch of a few thousand harnesses once, the engines ran too rich and the exhaust smelled like a mixture of rotten eggs and window cleaner.
@@dale116dot7that’s crazy interesting! Never thought about the tape off gassing. 😳
Thanks again for delivering another great video. Thanks for going into the reasoning behind why you decided. Much appreciated
Sarah's use of "Giggity" is her Nerdy Girl showing!
Your incredible! Can't wait to see it run!
I didn't know there were 10 ways to tell Grandma the last time her pants were in fashion was when this Celica was sold new.
Paul Simon's first draft for a famous song was "Fifty ways to diss your grandma" 🙃
get yourself some left handed drill bits for next time!
14:52 I need to send you a better foam cannon!
Absolutely love your attention to detail! Can't wait for more progress!
Hello Master Mechanic Sarah.
I love this build!
Thank you so much for those detailed information. It helps us better understand your situation and the decisions taken to resolve those dilemmas
12:15
Congrats! Keep going!
I enjoy watching these videos so much, the work ethic and care is off the charts, and its awesome.
i love your attention for detail plus cleaning purges are calming to see....
A new wire in harness is the best idea given that original birds nest and the positioning dilemma 😁👍
meh, it's a wash really.. same number of wires and it'll still need trimming to fit right. but you do get new (chinese) connectors on the ends which can save some bucks.
Awesome T-shirt !!
I’m loving the process, real world resto issues that come up. I appreciate the effort and thought into your projects. I’m learning lots that I take into consideration on my projects Love it! Thx !
It is so fun watching you get so ecstatic over everything. This is a great build.
Nice AIC shirt 😉
Yayyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! finally.
Beautiful car and build!
This content is much needed. The progress is going to accelerate now with the power plant finding its home. The highlights look nice Sarah.
😮 You sneeze in Japanese?
Hair color 👌🏻👍🏻
Love this build, and I can't wait to see the emotional 1st drive. I hope you film it. You are a master and the attention to detail is redonkulus
You are definitely in your element with the wiring. Outstanding Sarah!
12.16. Be healthy Sarah. Your sneezes are unusuall but sexy.
When you need to sneeze just breathe normaly inhale deep and you will have loud satisfying sneeze.
It is important to sneeze with full force because there is a lot of dust, all those chemical compaunds evaporating going in your nose so learn and practise how to sneeze strongly.
I can't resist, I am certain you know exactly the correct balance between too soft and too hard! Just sayin! 😂
Congratulations on getting the motor in the engine bay ! Looks awesome !!!
Thank you Sarah for the video
Love seeing your vision coming to life!! It's amazing to see! this will be better than factory could do😉 This Celica will be AMAZING!! 👍👍 thanks for saving this little gem and making it light years better! i been wearing the Celica Tee proudly!😊
Classic Sarah, I never get tired of watching your thought processes acted out.
That Celica looks amazing Sarah
Nice to see the fresh engine in the car. It looks amazing. It sits nice and low and farther back than I thought it would. Really, really nice.
Absolutely beautiful and that celica is as awesome as you great job Sara
Thank you, Sarah! The video I've been waiting for for at least half a year, and you're wearing a shirt of THE best grunge album ever! I love this so much!
As usual, I'm impressed. Nice work!
6:12 My understanding is that you shouldn't lube the outside of seals such as the rear main seal, only the inside. Happy to be corrected if wrong.
WOWEE! Congratulations!
The car is looking great I can really appreciate your attention to detail I try to do the same thing with the car I'm building now keep doing what you do I'm impressed every time I watch you video. You're Celica is going to be one bad ass hot ride. 😊💯👍
