Picofly | Oled installation guide - Clone Mod chip

- So decided to do an Oled install, if I am being honest I did a lot of reading beforehand and I did not like the sound of the install!
I was going to sell the Switch and not bother than decided to go for it!
It was a long install and it needed a lot of patience, would I do it again? Well I really would not rush to do it, it was one of the hardest I have done and there is so much that can go wrong. So anyone with little to no experience with micro soldering I would 100% say DO NOT DO THIS INSTALL!!!
I could not find a single video showing this chip or any details on how to install so had to do my best to see what I could do.
I did ask the seller to send installation instructions but they ignored me!
Also as noted in the video this came without software installed.
Thank you for watching the video, and I would really appreciate if you could like and subscribe.
I am planning on a lite mod install next once I get a working lite.

I’ve done 2x v2 switches now.. I really want to buy an OLED and this is the first video I’ve watched that makes me think I would be able to install the chip.
This looks like a far better install than the others I have seen. I’ve put this off as the dat0 looked like a nightmare and easy to mess up. Now I’ve seen this video I want to give it a go. I’ve already done original switch. Thanks for the video good job 👏👏
Thanks, I really hated the install though, I won't be doing another anytime soon 😁
@@fixingmoddingbuilding looks really stressful, but good work
After learning how to solder from repairing and modding gbas i think i'm ready to tackle this! Thank you for sharing
Thanks so much for the tutorial. Just used your video as a guide to install my Picofly and got it working on the first try!
Great, glad to hear
Hey, your video was a massive help. Several hours later of careful soldering and rechecking and we did it first try. Thank you for providing such an invaluable resource. There are no other videos like yours.
Thanks I am glad it helped 👍
Amazing job, and the lovely music was mesmerizing.
Great timing. Got this chip in the mail this week and was trying to find a good guide with the exact same chip (I think your previous one had a variation). Will follow!

You have the right attitude and it appears your skill set is developing nicely.
You have patience, check. You are not afraid to work on it, check. You think things through, check. You care about learing and doing good work. I've worked as an ET for over 50 years, and you have a better skill set than many I've seen over the last 20 years.
My goal today is , to still work with the desire to learn something new everyday. Good luck in the future.
Thank you very much! 👍
Very kind words
What's an ET?
Installed one of these for a customer today, install went smoothly and just like the video. Customer did provide a newer revision of the kit than the one installed in this video but soldering locations were the same only difference was the cable routing, but like I said it worked just the same so thanks for a simple guide that worked perfectly for my first time doing this Mod vs my norm which is repairing the console it’s self.
Good to hear, I won't see the newer version as unlikely to do another one 😁
@@fixingmoddingbuilding it’s rare I’ll probably do another since I think it’s the first it’s been asked of me to do, but I’m honestly not against doing another it was about 2hrs of work first go around & I’m sure I could speed that up, the soldering wasn’t bad I actually like how easy they made the job for me with the premade ribbons, but I’m also a repair tech for a living so I kinda do it daily on alot of device’s 😂
How much do you charge for this? If I mailed you my switch could you do it?
I watched the v1 video and I was like, hey I can do that! Then I watched this one and i'm like, Oh hell nah!

Great video, hey is the pad below the "D" pad a real connection or an anchor point? My pad for that one came off and I wonder if it of any importance. Thanks
THanks mate, i've actually made it through using your video!
Well done, I didn't enjoy the mod!
lol, could've been worse. I soldering iPhone boards is a heck more complicated.
thank you for the video bro, im watching a lot of videos because i want to install on my own, but i didnt find any chip like mine too. i never did this, but i got some basic tools and i hope i can get a good result. the seller deleted the product page, but before, i asked for the tutorial he had. the thing is the tutorial he sent used reflow with very professional tools i dont have lol.
Hi, yes I saw a video showing taking the nand off and reballing with a wire running underneath? Also read a lot about reflowing. The modder sthetix said he used to reflow but thinks the balls have a chance of cracking over time so he does not recommend it anymore he just goes for the pushing and holding technique.
@fixingmoddingbuilding youtube deleted my comment because of the link, but the video tutorial the seller sent to me is in other platform called bilibili, its a chinese youtube.
i saw this sthetix video, its very detailed too. im using all of your videos as a reference, i plan doing tomorrow. i dont have solder mask and pcb cleaner, i hope i dont need them.

Thanks for the video! I'll follow along :)
So excuse a dumb noob but what does this mod do? I'm trying to look for a Switch to just play downloaded games offline and after much searching, maybe it's my crappy English, I have not gotten conclusive answers. Does this allow you to download roms to play offline (any easier mod for that should one want to do it themselves otherwise? Fascinating watch, and the nice music made it even better, but doing this myself is WAY out of reach atm)?
I am worried that the "slider" ( 14:00 ) stop making contact with the chip over time, i have saw other videos where they sold it to the chip, but its absolucly more than what i can handle in mi home, shoud i get worried that it stop making contact?
This music is killing me, in a good way. It sounds like it belongs in an old TV drama series like Granada's Sherlock Holmes lol love it.
Thank you for these videos, great job, looks like nice clean work! Question: Where did you get instructions for this? Is there any written tutorials?
The seller wouldn't help, I just read what I could, found different snippets all over the place and put it together, thankfully right!
Gbatemp website is normally good for info.
@@fixingmoddingbuilding Sounds good! Thanks again!
Glorious Video, just about to do my own Oled, watched numerous videos, practiced soldering on old electronics, but I have a question. When you solder the wire to contact C, you do it on the ribbon, others have done it to the board, is there any difference? Reason for the ask is that I had to re order a ribbon, when I was tinning the contacts, Point C came right off the ribbon... tested it with a multimeter and sure enough it was now garbage. So with my new ribbon on its way, is it necessary to put that wire onto the ribbon, or can I put it to the board? If you happen to know, great! if not no worries :) Really great video, I will be having it in front of me when new kit arrives :)
Hi, thanks for the nice comment.
With regards to the c point, I couldn't find much detail on this chip, the seller has no install instructions so i kind of muddled it together from reading different things. It seems to work fine so must have done something right 👍
Ese punto es clk y si pudiste haberlo soldado directamente sin el Flex
Hi, i need help for my OLED. I got error code ** RST not connected. I checked with multimeter and didn’t get any reading even when i put directly on the RST point. Is there any other RST point that i can solder?
Nice work, one question did you pre program the chip before installing it on switch
I've bought a few, some come pre installed with software, others don't.
I normally just connect them all up to the switch and see if it displays no sd, if not it's easy to disconnect and plug into PC.
Loved this video! Could you share a list of the tools you used and where you bought them? (Flux, tweezers etc?)
Most of the tools I use are from aliexpress, if you look back through my videos you will see I've been doing videos on anything new I have bought
congratulations, detailed and precise. A pleasure. Once the modification has been made, is there a video of how to install the software and how to download the games?

Any chance you will do the rp2040 for the switch lite, this is far the best video on CZcams you make it look so easy.
Thanks. I have had the chip for a while but I don't have the lite!
Once I can get one it will be done
I was thinking what is a crosshead screw then it dawned on me oh, you mean a Phillips head screw!
Great video but I don't understand where does the green wire come from at 18:51 ?
I see you connecting the first green wire from one point to the other but then you say shorten the green wire but I don't see where it's connected to?
am I missing something?
The green wire comes from the connector that goes under the nand chip.
When I first attach it its longer then needed, just need trimming when connecting.
Friend, the resistance that is on one side of the clk, what connection does it have? Greetings
Im kind of afraid to do modifications like this
I just got a oled recently and wanted to mod it, tho I'll give this a try when I could
Two questions, what microscope do you use? And what size wire are you using?
The wire size says within the video, can't remember of the top of my head.
Currently just using my phone zoomed in, need to buy a microscope asap.
This may be a dumb question but I got sent this chip by mistake but I don’t have an OLED. Does this work on any other switch model?
The other models are easier to mod. They don’t need a mod chip (at least be first gen doesn’t)
Thanks man ! with your tuturial i do the job ! , but now i have a problem , have you ever had a switch oled that before the logo put the fan 100% ?
the temperature it´s good but the fan always 100% !
No sorry only done one oled and won't be doing another! Maybe check no little chips have been knocked off, there used to be one on the v1 that regulated when it turned on by the connector on the motherboard.
Bought a Switch Oled last year, I don't play it at all lol (games are expensive you know).
I was thinking of this as my first big (or should I say small) soldering project. I have very little experience with soldering, although I do really wanna buy the appropriate tools and give it a shot. I'm totally aware that I have a big chance of ruining my Switch, but I don't really care (despite that I'll be practicing A LOT with SMD kits prior to this)
Needs lots of practice!
Great video. What soldering iron do you use? Thanks
A cheap, variable temp one I bought off amazon years back so don't have any links
Id recommend getting a ts100 or a pinecil 64 or some other of that sort. Weller and hakko are also good. Also make sure your tip is tinned! thats the number one mistake.

How do I know which chip to buy for my switch? Is it the same in any oled model?
what tools do you use? what was the chip name? Your video seems one that is possible to follow, actually.
Search AliExpress for RP2040 for the chip, if you go through a lot of my recent videos it will show you what tools I am using, bought a lot of new items recently.
Question, are you able to boot into OFW/SYSMMC? I have the same kit as yours (Picofly Clone, V3 CPU Flex, and OLED V6 Motherboard Flex) and got it working, but it is unable to boot into OFW/SYSMMC, only getting a blackscreen after the Nintendo Logo. EMUMMC boots fine. [Fixed - Read More for how]
Update: So after looking at threads on GBATemp, I decided to remove the Flex Cable and went straight with enamel copper wire on all the points. It works and now I can now boot into OFW/SYSMMC successfully. This is because my eMMC is SK Hynix and is apparently known to not play well with the provided Flex Cable.
Yes I can boot ofw
@@fixingmoddingbuilding Thanks for the reply, so I'm guessing its a problem with my kit. Speedrunning GBAtemp points me at adding a 47Ohm Resister to the Dat0 Adaptor, I will have to wait for tomorrow to get the resistor to see if it will work.
@@ravenext yer, gbatemp is great for that extra detail and help
Thanks to them, I fixed it by replacing the Flex cable with enamel copper wire on all the points, its a bit harder but now I can boot OFW.
So if you have a Samsung chip you can safely use the ribbon cable?

Idk this doesn’t look too hard. Just really small. But I just got a ts101 so this might be a great project for the ridiculously tiny tips I got for it. It seems like you need some pretty steady hands for this one.
If I had a better soldering iron at the time it might have gave me more confidence, I do have that soldering iron now and tiny tips but still not satisfied as the solder still rises up the tip and doesn't stay at the end, you might have more luck.
They really did not want anyone modding these lol. Way more of a pain than the other versions.
Hello near the end of your switch v2 mod you use kefton tape I think it's called can I use ordinary cello tape to stop shorts or does it have to be kefton tape
