Youre exactly right. When i first started seeing giveaways, I said this is a money ploy for merch from youtube and another way for them to make money. It's cool that people wanna make money, no problem there, but there are probably people putting themselves in the poor house or almost in foreclosure to win these cars I'm pretty sure. And, while it's their choice, it is a pretty slimy business model to take advantage of people like that.

I remember the first piece of merch I ever bought from Five Three back in 2020 was the black script trucker hat, which I still have. The message and purpose behind Five Three is what drove me to make that purchase, along with every other purchase I've made from the website. Going back to the roots of Five Three is exciting to hear, and personally makes me super happy. I love that you've been such an advocate for mental health Evan, and this disastrous world needs more people like that.

I bought merch before and I LOVE it, amazing quality, though tbh I initially bought it for a giveaway. I’m actually so stoked to hear the full truth about the end of the giveaways, because I would sometimes think about spending more money to try and win these cars (addictive personality) so this is actually something I didn’t even fully realize I was one of those people that could be preyed upon, so hearing the reality check with full transparency was amazing. Keep it up Evan! Just how humble and real you are about everything is why I keep coming back to the videos and why I buy the merch 😁

I just entered to win a car from a different channel, when checking out they offered me 3 extra entries for $30. Right, after turning that down, they offered 10 more entries for $10/month. This is the only time I will enter one of these because I hate when something pure can be twisted into a money grabbing scheme.
Admittedly I don't usually watch your videos - I found you during the garage build which I did enjoy though. Despite that I did watch this full video (even the YT ads) because I haaaaaaaate the giveaway industry, it has always felt so scummy to me and its the quickest way to get me to skip through parts of a video. Kudos to you for this move👍 I'll second a comment below that mentioned " partnering with a company like better help and offer someone 5 pre-paid sessions for them to try therapy"

I’ve been getting disconnected from my cars / hobby too. Not sure if I’m depressed or if it’s because I work on other peoples cars for a living and not my own.
It’s strange when one of the things that use to make you so happy begins to bring you misery more often than it should.
Can't relate on the mental health side, but atleast from the work side i can.
For myself, i can say I've had a disconnect from my car's for the last 2 years because of how dull working on cars has become because of work. Everything to do with car's feels like a choir. But for me, i found going to the gym and doing morning runs reignited that spark which has also made me want to change jobs to keep the spark going
A friend of mine usually says this quote 'The longer you stare at it the harder it makes it to care anymore' because his ER34 Skyline needs a few fixes. Bills and lack of time makes him push back on some work that needs doing

This has been going on for a while not just 5 years. There were giveaways before just on a smaller scale and not as popular. It just became big because people finally realized there was lots of money to be made. Why is DraftKings successful? Why are casinos always open? Why is cryptocurrency popular? Why is the stock market especially short-term stocks popular? It all revolves around gambling and getting rich quickly or winning something you may not afford. Good move and glad you saw this.
Also not discussed but some are sketchy as the winners have been known to be related to the giveaway owners.

I have bought your merch before, but never really for the giveaway because I am not in the US, the reason I don't buy merch often is usually the shipping costs to get them, I know that's not your fault but it does make it difficult at times to justify the cost. But I am glad you are going back to the roots and can't wait to see the builds get completed

You are right about the Giveaway industry. Its like every day I see a new company giving something away. I remember when people used to think eighty80 was a scam or that one company that advertised a purple R34 for what seemed like a year.
A local guy to me won there grey ridox supra they gave away.
Eighty80 seems legit. Tunercult is way worst in my opinion. Your entries doesn't accumulate, entries will lose throughout time during the giveaway. The giveaway deadline is not even accurate.
The first eighty80 giveaway was a grey r32 a local in my town won lol.

Regardless, it is all “chance” based which is what gambling is and so I wouldn’t spend a time to try to win some product and would just rather spend that money to own it outright.

Yeah I’ve been so over the giveaways. At first it was cool, some channels more so than others. It got to a point where like every car channel was doing them non stop and almost every upload had a big chunk of the video being an advertisement for the giveaway. Also gotta be honest, this applies more so to other CZcamsrs as I haven’t watched your channel in quite awhile. This video just randomly popped up.

I've noticed this on many channels. The giveaways are very exciting to watch and dream about, but feel like the lottery. Very weighted and low chance of winning. Still enjoy the build content and seeing how things are done with new types of tools.
