- Mark Carruthers and BBC Newcastle’s Paul Dixon discuss the fixture congestion impacting on non-league clubs in the North East and the Football Association’s decision to reject an application to extend the Northern League season.
Enjoying the channel. Interesting debate, the only way forward I can see to complete the fixtures is a reduction of teams in each league which would have a knock on effect for finances with less home games but reduced travel. You can’t expect the quality of pitches at the NL/NPL to improve so with more extreme weather events it will remain a problem. Soulless fill in grounds like the Ford Hub don’t encourage attendance and Consett/Morpeth are too far away from other Tyne and Wear clubs to attract fans. I don’t have an answer other than reducing the number of games.
