That #1 ground design with the cricket pitch wasn't that uncommon in days gone by. My Dad worked as a groundsman at Northants County Cricket Ground in the 1970s, and had to convert the pitch between sports a couple of times as it was shared with Northampton Town. Like the ground featured here, only three sides had stands, so an open field meant players would sometimes just boot the ball as hard as possible off the open side to waste time if protecting a lead. The other funny thing was that the ground was put on the far side from the Pavilion to protect the windows, meaning the players had to walk about 100 yards just to get to the pitch! One of the old football stands still remains at the cricket ground, albeit in a different location now.

Sir! you must look into the rise and fall of Sittingbourne FC - The original ground was sold to Sainsburys for £6m. A new stadium was built with a potential capacity of 35000 (yes, thirty five thousand)...After much shenanigins its now a greyhound racing track

You forgot to mention the fact that Wingates main stand is double sided. One side faces the football stadium and the other side faces the rugby pitch. I once went to a game where the football and rugby were going on at the same time and it was interesting sitting in the same stand as other people watching a different sport to them.

Yes, that's Finchley RFC. I've played rugby there and both games were going on simultaneously then, too. I think it's pretty regular, though I played there only once.

A question to fellow subs. Will Salford city have to move if they get promoted. I’m a big Salford fan ( before the money. ). And I think moor lane ( yes I still call it that. ). To not up to scratch.

Sandygate road, Hallam fc is also shared with a cricket pitch and it is the oldest ground in the world still being used.

Oldest cricket ground or oldest football ground still used? Maidenhead United are recognised as having the oldest football ground in continuous use as a football ground.

Matlock Town is also a cricket pitch.
Not true about Ilkeston fc ground there is room for a full sided stand just did not have the cash at the time.

This is correct they planned full length but as normal Ilkeston spent all the money plenty of room around
