The Aghoris are a sect of Hinduism in India known for their extreme and controversial practices, including cannibalism and rituals using human skulls and animal sacrifices. The term "Aghori" means "non terrifying" in Sanskrit and is derived from the word "Aghor," which can mean "not difficult" or "non terrible" or can refer to a state of consciousness without fear or disgust. The Aghoris believe that true Aghoris are "fearless and do not discriminate." Their practices are often associated with Tantric rites of worship of the Mother Goddess in various forms, such as Kali, Durga, and Chamunda.
The leader of this cult became infamous by meditating on top of his deceased mother. In this short doco we focus more on Bhavani baba one of the disciples who spits profound wisdom on the nature of God.
It's important to note that the Aghori tradition is a small, extreme sect of Hinduism that is not representative of Hinduism as a whole. Some Aghori practices, such as cannibalism and corpse veneration, are considered taboo within mainstream Hinduism. As such, it's important to approach any story about the Aghori with sensitivity and respect. #AGHORI

Native Hindu here. I’m Kashmiri and we pray to Shiva. I’ve always believed in a higher power and my relationship with Shiva has always been an on and off one but despite that I’m a proud Hindu- I’m glad Hinduism allows one to explore the religion and even question it. We literally have atheism as a branch for people who don’t want to believe in god and still practice spirituality/Hinduism. We have this story about how Hinduism came into being. Apparently, the Seven Sages “realised” gods and universe and all that profound stuff in Hinduism through meditation. We even have stories like deities drinking Somā which is Ephedra. I 100% believe that the sages took psychedelics of some sort and realised everything including the practice of meditation. And maybe that’s why everything in our religion is beyond human view and seems so mysterious since it’s other worldly. When you read about “Yantra” or tools (best translation i could find) that are like geometrical patterns used to realize gods/universe, you’ll see the patterns that people usually witness during psychedelic trips. You can find these patterns in all Hindu homes. Anything that you experienced during your trip can be found in Hinduism. In fact Pashupati (prototype of Shiva) is such an interesting image that’s very similar to psychedelic visuals. I feel the Sages literally found the truths about the universe and met these spirits, that we now pray to as deities, and wrote about them which we now know of as Hinduism. It freaks me out and makes me mad happy for some reason. For me, it’s an existential and foundational proof that Vedic texts are true to their core. Time to read the Bhagwad Gita again!

Thanks for this comment, We both have a similar perspective of hinduism/spirituality but I never thought of how psychedelics came into the story. I think what you said makes complete sense but the true understanding of what these all means is beyond human mind and consciousness.
