Donnie Brasco is a 1997 American crime drama film directed by Mike Newell, and starring Al Pacino and Johnny Depp. Michael Madsen, Bruno Kirby, James Russo, and Anne Heche appeared in supporting roles.
The film, written by Paul Attanasio, is based on the 1988 nonfiction book Donnie Brasco: My Undercover Life in the Mafia by Joseph D. Pistone, and Richard Woodley.
The film is loosely based on the true story of Pistone (Depp), an FBI undercover agent who infiltrated the Bonanno crime family in New York City during the 1970s, under the alias Donnie Brasco. Brasco maneuvers his way into the confidence of an aging Mafia hitman, Lefty Ruggiero (Pacino), who vouches for him.
As Donnie moves deeper into the Mafia, he realizes that not only is he crossing the line between federal agent and criminal, but also leading his friend Lefty to an almost certain death. - Zábava
Yes, an ex-Mafioso named Michael Franzese did his review of this film. Incidentally he produced ‘Savage Streets’ starring Linda Blair.
Truly an Amazing Film, Al and Johnny knocked it out of the park
Easily one of Johnny Depp's best performances. Great gangster/mob movie IMO.
See him in "Black Mass" as "Whitey" Bulger.
I think Your nu. 1 reviewer in my book Top Notch Dude! Very articulated in your movie reviews and I'm enjoying it very much so 😀👌
I appreciate that.
Fantastic movie i would love to rewatch it
Forget about it!
Don't forget the departed
Matt I was planning to send you a request for this movie. It's one of favorites. The mob guy you are referring to is Michael Franzese former Capo in the Colombo family.
Matt Lefty actually was going to a meeting where he was going to be WHACKED but the FBI snatched him off the street.
They should have shown that in the flick.
Lefty was actually given the lion only it was younger so he rode around with a lion in the backseat of his car for a while
Eventually it got so big they had to get rid of it so they tied it to a tree in the park impede some people a couple hundred dollars to call the cops and report it they had to try that a couple nights before someone finally showed up
2:36 Really damn I almost want to see that movie review now LOL
7:19 Well that cop film that was he did a few years ago is finally getting released called ''City of Lies'' I'm looking forward to that film hopefully it doesn't disappoint?
13:11 Dramatic License is the word your thinking of Matt.
14:44 Same here they are very overrated IMHO.
''FORGET ABOUT IT!!''
I did catch this film on cable some time last year for the first time the cast did a fine job especially Al Pacino & Johnny Depp but to me the ending felt very lamp which hurts the re-watching factor
at least to me bro. Great fucking job with the fucking review brother LOL!!
You right Matt,
it made no sense in the end, because they really did meet each other again in real life; a few years later Lefty and Donny meet in court.
Lefty said he still could not believe Donny was a cop while in court staring at Donny.
Check out the real Joe Pistone audiobook (it's on youtube); it's 3 hours long, but he fills in a lot of gaps that the movie missed about him and Lefty.
To be honest this is just me, I could never get into Donnie Brasco, I thought it was pretty Boring, unthrilling, hardly any action, didn’t find the story interesting, but I thought Johnny Depp, Anne Heche, & Al Pacino did a Good Job Though
