  • I'll be getting back to the Eddie Murphy marathon soon...in fact I'll post one of those after this one, then a review of Perfect Blue, and then the rest of the Eddie Murphy reviews are coming soon.
    Pulp Fiction is a 1994 American crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino; it is based on a story by Tarantino and Roger Avary.
    Starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman, it tells several stories of criminal Los Angeles.
    The film's title refers to the pulp magazines and hardboiled crime novels popular during the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence and punchy dialogue.
    Tarantino wrote Pulp Fiction in 1992 and 1993, incorporating scenes that Avary originally wrote for True Romance (1993). Its plot occurs out of chronological order.
    The film is also self-referential from its opening moments, beginning with a title card that gives two dictionary definitions of "pulp".
    Considerable screen time is devoted to monologues and casual conversations with eclectic dialogue revealing each character's perspectives on several subjects, and the film features an ironic combination of humor and strong violence.
    TriStar Pictures reportedly turned down the script as "too demented". Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein was enthralled, however, and the film became the first that Miramax fully financed.
    Pulp Fiction won the Palme d'Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, and was a major critical and commercial success.
    It was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture, and won Best Original Screenplay; it earned Travolta, Jackson, and Thurman Academy Award nominations and revitalized and/or elevated their careers.

    The best part of this movie was when the toaster pops up and Bruce Willis fires! That is the most memorable part of the film for me!!! I loved that scene!

    Its a masterpiece, Bruce Willis's segment has clever details people don't give credit that much. My favourite is the lyrics of the song when he's about to hit Ving Rhames, "It's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright" Haha, genius.

    • @blaisemacpherson7637
      @blaisemacpherson7637 Před 4 lety

      That's not genius. It's a haphazard mess of a flick. Nobody ever talks about how poorly cobbled together that flick is. I wonder what the pitch even was. "Let's make a movie about fictional people doing stuff and people will care for some reason"

      Believe it or not there's a movie called Zeds Dead which came out in 2021...it supposedly picks up where Pulp Fiction left off and takes place in the pawn shop where the rape scene happened...the trailer isn't even worth watching and I would not recommend it in anyway...none of the original cast returns...not even Bruce Willis so to speak. Completely unknown actors I've never seen or heard of in my life star in it and it's complete garbage...might as well THROW THE MOVIE IN THE TOILET AND TAKE THE BIGGEST SHIT YOU WILL EVER TAKE OF YOUR LIFE ON IT. The poster advertisement for Zeds Dead even sucks too...some unknown actress is posing like Uma is on the iconic front cover of Pulp Fiction with a cigarette and in yellow letters it says Zeds Dead with a red background...and I feel they did a lazy job with that. Stick with Pulp Fiction...it's a classic and always will be.

    Death proof, for me personally, is a underrated gem!!! It's such a unique spin on slasher films where you the audience, gets a huge pay off by seeing the antagonist receive his just due in hysterical fashion lol most of the stunts,if not all, were practical, the pace was entertaining while turning on it's head& it's such a chick flick that goes ape shit!! Tarantino wore most of the hats while making this film, from of course writing& directing,to even editing the film himself!! A very unappreciated piece of work that moves at such a fast pace regardless of dialogue& it's one of my favorite roles by Kurt Russell :-) I remember going to the theater to see GRINDHOUSE for the first time, hell I even remember Tarantino winning a award on SPIKE& giving a trailer of the double feature which left me very excited :-) I grew up on Tarantino,at 10 years of age I was watching my favorite of his,TRUE ROMANCE& I've been a fan ever since. He's my #1 when it comes to directors,my top 5 list in order, directing wise,The Hateful Eight/Django Unchained/Kill Bill1/Jackie Brown& Death proof :-) this collector's edition& Jackie Brown(favorite sdtk) collector's edition are the 2 best DVD special features I've seen& most enjoyed. They were well in depth&captured the body of each film from its process to it's finish as well as dissecting Tarantino humble beginnings in film,I mean this C edition even had the Charlie rose interview,AWESOME!!!!

    I'm not a big Quentin Tarrentino Fan but this movie is hard not to like / Having said that this movie was the work of many other people involved too not just Quentins' I still would put From Paris With Love (2010) and Broken Arrow above this in terms of John Travolta simply because those movies feature him more and you can tell hes having fun with the role eating up the scenery. 1994 was certainly a year of what I would say to be a lot of good and bad / a mixed bag for sure. Because while you had epic disappointments like Star Trek Generations and Paramount's demise with Beverly hills cop 3. You had movies like this at the same time that were good / True Lies / among many others

    Good job on review. No doubt Tarantinos best film seen it 9 times still haven't noticed Travolta's characters reflection on window in beginning in diner. I think hes formulaic like Tim Burton so not really looking forward to once upon a time in Hollywood. @@Johnlindsey289 I think inglorious basterds is still watchable. But the thing is even Reservoir Dogs I have problems with since it doesn't hell that it's a loose remake of a Hong Kong film called city on fire. The Kill Bills are homages to Asian cinema Jackie brown is ok. I mean I have less problems with pulp fiction apart from Tarantinos role in the film. I mean pulp fiction is not 100% original but I think its is more well done. I think his written work which he didn't direct I like such as true romance that's a love story that's sort of a little original coming from him and natural born killers is well done but absolutely nuts.

      To show truly evil characters who get their just desserts, like Bruce Willis stabbing one with a samurai sword and Ving Rhames shooting another's balls off with a shotgun. It wasn't bad or disgusting because they didn't show much of it at all. Plus, like I said, it establishes strongly as to why a character like Ving Rhames would stop hunting Bruce Willis' character...because Ving was saved by something like that. I found nothing wrong with the scene.
