    I've been a supporter and loyal shopper of iFixit for years now, and their tools have always been top notch. This kit looks like the kit to end all kits! Great video!

    The Y shaped tool (top right hand side) is a hook driver I believe. For screwing hooks into walls, wood etc.

    I never understand how CZcamsrs say, “x item was provided by the company who makes it, free of charge, however, I was not compensated...”.
    Uh...you just finished telling us that you were compensated in the first half of the statement. You were provided goods at no cost, that by definition, is compensation. Compensation doesn’t always have to be money.
    That said, iFixit stuff is awesome, I agree.

    • @user-tl4fi6oy8d
      @user-tl4fi6oy8d Před 5 lety +3

      Because a lot of CZcamsrs are dishonest and/or dumb. You are correct: free tools and free products count as compensation.

    • @Lao-G
      @Lao-G Před 4 lety +1

      A company confident in its product knows that if its product is good enough, the product is enough compensation as it is. Extremely often, lazy people pushing one-off, garbage quality products will do the same, hoping it gets them some exposure for free. This is why it's worth mentioning.

  • @ozzpockettriesbassguitar5647

    I noticed the standard screw driver bits were hollow ground. It might be worth mentioning hollow ground bits provide a more secure fit in the screw. The flats of the blade run very close to parallel in the slot instead of a wedge, which will cam out or strip a screw.

      No it's not for wing screws. The screw itself would hit the driver bit. It's for the a eyelet screw.

    There is an issue with the Manta 1/4 driver not being able to retain any screw on the bit. The 4mm driver does not have this issue. The video shows the 4mm driver picking up a screw. The 1/4 driver is almost 3 times the size of the 4mm driver but can't pickup a screw? Previous iFixit tools do not have this issue. This issue should be included in the product description on iFixit website.

      They are the Mackie CR-4 and I DON'T recommend them. They have a known flaw in them where parts of the amplifier circuit fails and you lose the audio in one speaker. I recently replaced them with Presonus Eris E3.5 (you can see those in newer videos) and they are better built speakers.

    ifixit commissions their branded screwdriver kits from the same factory that Harbor Freight does, so ya may as well grab a 20% off coupon and buy the multi bit kits from HF.

    • @ToddsNerdCave
      @ToddsNerdCave  Před 6 lety +1

      Do you have a specific link? I don't see any screwdriver sets on Harbour Freights website that look even remotely similar to this set.

    • @macrossactual
      @macrossactual Před 6 lety +1

      this specific ifixit set has it's own custom box and appears to be a combination of two different sets, so there isn't a one to one, but one of their earlier kits was item 93916, only in blue. $8 gets you item #93916, which is one half of the battle, $10 grabs item #68457 which is every other security bit ever made. Use em in any 1/4" shank.
      I have much love for ifixit's tear downs and all, but their toolkits are a rip off, for no other reason than they're selling the same chinesium tools everyone else is, but charging you 75% or more for the blue overmolding.

    • @ToddsNerdCave
      @ToddsNerdCave  Před 6 lety +1

      I dunno man. That driver in the harbor freight kit looks really, really cheap. Nowhere even close to these high quality aluminum drivers iFixit now uses. Plus the obvious case difference and there are a lot of really small bits included with the Manta (and the 64 bit kit) designed for use with things like iphones and such that don't appear in either harbor freight set. And I don't see bits like the 3.8 or 4.5mm Gamebits.
      With that said, perhaps a Harbor Freight vs iFixit showdown video? Gives me some ideas...

    • @macrossactual
      @macrossactual Před 6 lety +1

      Hey, it's your money, spend it however you like. I've never used the case a screw driver came in to fix anything, but if that's what's important to you, enjoy. Personally I'd rather buy additional tools than use up the budget on a plastic case I'm going to throw away.
      You really can find every tool and generic toolkit they sell with a half dozen different brand names on them at HF, Amazon, AliBaba, etc. for pennies on the dollar compared to the ifixit premiums.

    • @clarence35
      @clarence35 Před 5 lety +3

      I have both the HF precision kit #93916 and the iFixit 64-bit kit. The driver in the HF #93916 has a plastic chuck, so the bits fall into the chuck if you put any real pressure. However, this can be worked around by using the metal extension instead, and the driver itself is actually really comfortable and ergonomic. I like the placement of the rubber texture which gives a very firm grip no matter where you hold it. At ~$6 after coupon, the kit is a great value.
      But the quality of the HF driver is nowhere near the quality as the aluminum iFixit 4mm driver. The iFixit has ball bearings on the spinner end to ensure smooth rotation that won't wear out easily. If you're a light home user, it's probably buy-it-for-life quality. The HF driver has a limited life due to the plastic chuck holding the bit.
      As for the quality of the bits, the HF kit actually has decent bits made out of hardened nickle chromoly that fit well. I did not see a marked improvement in quality or durability on the iFixit bits, they both seem decent but not as good as professional brands like Wiha. Both HF and iFixit offer lifetime warranties which is nice. But the HF kit doesn't have pentalobe bits which are needed to take apart iPhones, these are included in the iFixit kit. I would say that the HF kit is a better value, but the iFixit kit is higher quality and a more complete set of bits. I was able to buy the iFixit 64-bit kit for $16 on sale, and think it's worth it over the HF kit at that price.
