    I have a 1998 Toyota T100 that I'm fixing up. I had the same issue with the door latch. After I replaced the weather stripping it went away. Unfortunately Toyota doesn't make the weather stripping anymore so I just bought some for a 1998 F150 and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the video!

      Toyota has almost has zero parts left for the T100’s.. you have to get creative, which it sounds like you did.. alright so 98 F-150 weatherstripping works on the T100, nice to know.. 👍🏼

      An 02’ Tundra is an awesome truck, there light years ahead with there refinement over the t100, but there’s no disputing there very similar.. I spend a ton of time surfing craigslist and it’s almost impossible to find another clean t100, most got worked pretty hard.. I really like the truck.. 👍🏼

    Thank you sooo much! Just bought my ‘97 T100 from a used car lot and the owner saw a sucker coming when I walked in - I was in a hot hurry because my ‘92 Toyota pickup had been stolen a week prior and need it for work. Only had the ‘97 a little over a week and the list of things this guy didn’t disclose, played dumb about, or was completely full of bull is too long to state here (and there’s a story of what I went through for each). My door latch being the latest - it wasn’t tight to begin with and the door rattled a little. Well, of course I knew he was full of it when he told me that “the exterior screws just needed to be loosened to make the adjustment because a new rubber seal had just been replaced.” I knew that wasn’t right but wanted that truck anyway. Had it less than a week, went to shut the door from the inside and heard a loud bang - the latch didn’t swing back in the open position. Going to pick up the new mechanism at my local Toyota dealer today - couldn’t find one on any site I looked at - found plenty other OEM’s and aftermarket ones (all makes of trucks) for around 60 bucks. I had to pay $284 at the dealer to get one of the only two that all of Portland and surrounding areas had - guess I feel lucky though, it’s no fun having to have your left arm out the window to hold the door from banging and feels like it’s going to fall off from rattling so violently, and very unpleasant in 45 degree weather. Well, the list of everything else that’s wrong with it is too extensive to list. And just a couple of days after I bought it, my ‘92 was recovered - yay! That said, even with all the bad stuff on the T100, I’m going to keep it and sell my precursor to the Tacoma. I had offers to sell it for years now, and at quadruple the $800 it books at, but I had no clue how much more it’s worth than that. I paid 2 grand for it 10 years ago, and if I can get it running again (no idea what the thieves did to it), I can probably get around $6000 for it, and that’s without the pile of boxes filled with replacement parts and upgrades like you’ve got stacked up. It’s kinda crazy how desirable the little old ones are, and mine is the 6 cylinder and not even the coveted 4 cylinder 22re that everyone seems to want - those jack the price waaay up. Although I did find a ‘93 for only $2000 - it literally had no engine or interior, and it was literally a burnt out shell. Wish me luck selling mine - I need it after spending almost 10 grand for my T100 with only 138,000 miles on it, not to mention the already $600 in repairs, plus a $650 alarm system - that was priority number one even before I added it to my insurance. And for those wondering if I had a wheel lock on my ‘92, I did. They just made a cut in the steering wheel and spread it apart, it’s amazing how little (lightweight) metal it’s made of - it’s 80% rubber. Don’t get a sense of false security form them. If the baddies feel like going off-roading and camping like mine did, it’s pretty easy to steel. And again, I thank you very much for this invaluable tutorial! Now if I can find those fender extensions like you have (once I’m out of debt) I’ll be happy as a clam. 😜

      @toyotafanatics1  Před 2 lety

      That’s awesome you got yourself a 97, a great year for the T100, and it equality as awesome that you got a Brand new latch.. there nearly impossible to find. That’s the last latch toyota made with a soft rubber overlay that wears out. they went to a whole new style of latch as they entered the 2000’s! just keep on tackling the small issues as they arise and soon you’ll have yourself a super reliable truck.. let me know when your ready and i’ll send you a link for those fender flares.. 👍🏼

    The t100 is still my all time favorite toyota creation to this date. And the most reliable engine i have ever personally owned. The 5vze 93 camry is hard to beat to. However thats jst a lil commuter. I have my T loaded with a highrise shell and a sleeping platform in the back. I remove it to work during the warm months. I do not have that cooling thing in my radiator btw. Thats aftermarket pretty sure. Ill be painting my skid plate soon as well! So easy cant believe i did not do sooner.

      Excellent question.. so it turns out that you can remove the rubber covered metal part that fails from a 4runner latch and bolt it into the T100 latch assembly.. I saw a whole write up on a forum about it, but this was a couple days ago and i’m having a hard time finding the forum now.. It worked perfectly, i just don’t remember what generation 4runner latch you need.. I assume the 1990-1995 4runner because the T100 started in 1993, so that just makes sense..
