We love sharing puppy videos like this one where we show how to wean puppies at 4 weeks getting the puppy to the point of eating and feeding on real puppy food instead of nursing off mom. In this case, mom had pretty much been trying to wean the pups for the past two days. As a result, the puppies were looking and acting pretty hungry. It became very clear these Doberman pups were ready to learn how to wean off mom and her puppy milk. The result - I have never witnessed pups take to puppy food as quickly as these pups did. Although the weaning puppies didn't understand the food bowl at first, these little guys were so ready for it and loved the puppy food once they figured it out!
Hopefully you will enjoy witnessing in this among some of our other dog videos how to wean puppies off puppy milk to puppy food for 1 month old weaning puppies as much as we do since the experience can be comically cute as their curiosity gets the better of them and they dive whole heartedly into the food bowl. This really isn't a "how to wean puppies to solid food" video as much as it is simply sharing the joy of watching inquisitive doberman puppies explore and discover something completely new to them. Some of the doberman puppy sounds expressed are simply adorable. Doberman pinschers make incredible family pets, but you need to first educate yourself before deciding to bring a doberman puppy into your home or you may end up with a frustrated dog as this is an intelligent breed.

I wd arrange the pups evenly around the bowl and feed from a coned bowl so they dont step into it; also add a good canned meat into the kibble slurry. 45 yrs exp in doberman pinschers.

Hi Laura, a question please. I was wondering how much extra food their mama needs to eat to keep all those pups so chubby with her milk as opposed to when she's not lactating.
itsmegp46 Thank you for your question. I supplement my mommas with canned Tripe mixed into their dry food. Smells terrible but is rich in nutrients. I would say about 3-4 cans a day along with dry food. During first week or two, I spoil mommas and mostly give them Tripe by itself. They usually aren't too interested in hard food while they are stressed over the tiny pups at this stage. Tripe is just too hard to resist and gets gobbled up.

We fill the pan with food and and enough water to get the food afloat. I over serve the pups because when they are done, mom likes to finish off what's left.

No food until about 4 weeks old. I had to give them food a couple days before because mom couldn't keep up with nutritional needs.
