To answer the Taraji singing question, Yes Taraji can sing, that was her voice & her saanging. She even showed off her vocals & sang in the newly revamped The color purple movie. She also gave us a taste of her vocals on Hustle & Flow that she stars in with Terrance Howard (Luscious from Empire). As a matter of fact, if you could be so kind as to react to Hustle & Flow🙏
Anywho, she's theatre trained so they do all three, Act, Dance & Sing.😘

This might've been the one time Taraji wasn't singing...I'll double check the credits, but I think it was Cheryl Pepsi Riley, who did a lot of Tyler Perry plays (Cheryl also did the singing for the crackhead mom in Diary of a Mad Black Woman).
I remember Taraji saying something about how before The Color Purple, even though she is a triple threat, the talent she's perfected the most is acting, so she wasn't as secure in her singing...lol wild to think about after watching The Color Purple, right?

This is one of my favourite Tyler Perry movies too! But its important to realise not everyone has a great relationship with their family, April's family dynamic was clearly toxic and the nuance in Taraji's performance when it was revealed that her Mum didn't believe her when she was raped is phenomenal, but heart wrenching and explains why she didn't speak to her for so long.

Aye too answer why they all were coming for her life style is because yes she’s just a performer but she made it that she copes that way. That place made her an easy alcoholic and a home wecker she can go back once she fixes herself.
I mean her waiting 2 years when it comes to foster care ANYTHING can happen to them in those 2 years hell anything could happen in a 2 - 3days so her panicking about being separated from them until she turned 18 is very valid

MJ I really wish you got a chance to see Oprah's Legends Ball...it was a special she did back in '06 honoring African American women in art, entertainment and civil rights... there are a few clips on youtube, but it was really a spectacle and educational at the same time.
