- čas přidán 26. 06. 2024
- The 2022 Subaru WRX (Pricing BELOW) has been rehauled with loads of goodies and changes for this new generation. Not only does it get a total exterior makeover, but it also has a whole new engine. Gone is the 2.0L and in is the 2.4L. Although it only makes 3 horsepower more than the previous model, the new WRX has quite a bit to show off for 2022. Thomas and James take this new WRX out for some canyon carving and loose-surface back road hooliganry. What will they think? Does this new WRX provide the same thrills as the previous generation? Watch to find out! SUBSCRIBE!
Huge thanks to XPEL for sending us some TRACWRAP to protect the Subaru. It's pretty amazing stuff. Go check it out! www.xpel.com/products/paint-p...

“A refined lumber jack is just a…barista.” Exactly why I watch this channel.
Beat me to it. That line was definitely comment-worthy.
Sure it is. It’s like (good) old auto journalism meets blogging. They review the car BEFORE filming and give you evaluated examination instead of you looking at stupid face reactions of the guy who cannot spell specs himself, let alone point out pros/cons over competition.
Because these two boneheads are baristas?
Bet me to it! lol
Most quotable quotes of quotes from this channel... Hahaha
A 4-door AWD 6-speed turbo made in Japan with analog gauges and a real handbrake for under $35k?..this is unbelievably a great car..it’s like a classic Japanese sports car that can be bought new..I think some of us are just getting too spoiled.. 😊 this car will be dearly missed one day.
This comment is underrated.
@@karmahundenvery true
Yeah, no. I’d rather get an older “stink eye” STi hatch and upgrade the infotainment

I just bought new 2023 base for 29650
I thought these were hideous from the internet, but after seeing one in person i’ve totally changed my mind. They look pretty great in real life
I had this exact revelation today, looked super clean in person
I saw one for the first time in person today as well and I thought the same thing! Those wheel arches are still nasty though.
Looks best in white color I reckon. The contrast is fire.
I noticed that while building one on their website yesterday. It surprised me. The stark contrast between the white paint and the black cladding is so intense that it somehow makes the cladding less noticeable. The cladding almost seems to blend into the darkness of the wheel well, tires, and black wheels. I think that combination with the cherry red mud flaps would look good. @@cybertroy2
Yeah I dont get that feeling the wheel arches and real doesn't do it for me.
Look, I'm almost 65 years old. I had an MG back in the day, a VW Corrado the year they were introduced, a Saab 900 Turbo and a Volvo C30. I loved them all but this WRX is the most fun of any car I've ever driven. If you're like me and can't afford a C8, or Porsche, or BMW (yecch) and don't want the maintenance woes and expense, I can't imagine anything better.
I'm a bit younger, I've driven the Si, sat in the R, driven the VW GTI, .... also had an MG B, RX7, Miata, Northstar Caddi, The WRX has a shifter, and a hand-brake! It feels a bit like the Volvo Brick Turbo I could never afford.
Just making sure you guys are constantly reminded that we massively appreciate the incredible production quality of every single one of your videos. Amazing stuff. Rivals anyone, anywhere.
I was with you until Titu showed up with a pretty convincing counter-argument …

Always the driver's point of view. Love the way in which you address usability and ergonomic issues. Thank you for such compelling, well-designed, and edited content! Nobody does car reviews like you - and you still celebrate manuals. Keep revving!
Regardless of the looks, WRX still performs on the curves, dirtroad, asphalt and that's enough reason to buy it.
I still will never understand how they thought “let’s give the recaro seats to ONLY the model with the cvt”
to encourage more buyers to get the cvt and stray away from manuals
Yeah it’s criminal
@superkadabra whats the manual take rate for wrx 80%?
@superkadabra sorry to hear that
@borek obunga I think the WRX is one of the very rare exceptions where manual is more popular than auto. But whereas if you can drive manual you can also drive auto, the reverse is not true, so it's probably one of those things where the volume of higher trims sold is low enough that they want to consolidate to just auto.
90% of wrxs were bought with a manual.
Subaru: let's put all our best options on the cvt.
Wtf
I mean that's what Honda does and they probably saw their success with it. Ofc they reserve the best of the best for their STI/Type R models.
@@alexc7864 your not getting it, they are putting their best, WRX not sti, options like Recaro seats and adaptive suspension behind the cvt trans, their worst selling model. No company does that
Seems ridiculous!! I have a strong feeling we’ll see some changes to the ‘23 lineup. Perhaps some minor cosmetic improvements as well, assuming Subaru actually cares what its customers prefer.
I'm guessing it's because they're trying to attract a larger market. By making a WRX with a CVT, adaptable dampers, and "adventure" inspired plastic cladding that the general public seems to like Subaru have created a car that is more attractive to the average car buyer instead of the enthusiast. Being that the enthusiast market is much smaller than the nonenthusiast market it makes some sense from a business perspective. Just a guess.
@@jaybosher6144 It makes sense because those specific items are low profit options. Their highest profit margin trim is exactly what’s in this video. Recaro seats, the CVT, adaptive suspension and iSight aren’t cheap to build/purchase.
Another top-notch video from the best automotive review channel online. They always come across as knowledgeable without being pretentious, and the vids are very well done. Keep them coming, TH. Oh, and the "refined lumberjack/barista joke" had me rolling ... because it's true.
Thank you guys for making such a great show here on CZcams! Ive been recovering from tonsil surgery and binge watching all of your episodes!
The taillights look like they'd be at home on a 2012 civic 😬
I was thinking that. Just feels like a 10+ year old Civic in the back. It's not awful, just...uninspired.
YES!!
Exactly. Dont mean to beat a dead horse, but damn. The wrx is just....ugly imo.
You are talking as if Imprezas were pretty before. The only good looking Impreza was the GCs. We all bought Imprezas knowing they were ugly as a sin inside and out.
Well you’ll be sure to see a lot them driving one of those
Im up to my 8th Subaru, I had most of them, turbos, NA, Auto, manual, wagons, Suv's you name it! Here in Canada, the value of a Subaru is there. For me the last great Subaru was the 11-14 Wrx. Those cars had. Soul! Wagon, 2.5L turbo with Subaru Rumble, wide arches, simple interior. To have that same formula again in a large legacy wagon (family men need cool cars also) I would be in heaven!
I’ve had 3, my current daily is a 2011 Outback 3.6R. Also had an ej25 swapped GF8 hatch years ago, and an 2008 Impreza 2.5i… almost bought an ascent but went with the Grand Cherokee L
I have a 15 and would love my engine in a 14. Still not a huge fan of my 15 even though I’ve had it for seven years
Also the drive an 11-14, felt numb compared to a GF8. The 90’s were the best years for imports
I am hoping my seventh Subaru with be the next gen STI. I am so excited/NERVOUS to see what the factory does. Fingers crossed that they take on this opportunity to impress us, and do not roll out this exact same WRX with a 315hp motor.
@@EOCAunfortunately I cant see it to be more then 335hp. I was a Subaru sales rep in the mid 2000s. Man the STI had respect back then. The conversation was alway 'wow is that a STI? That thing is as fast as a Porsche' now its ....look another STI. That this is as fast as a 2.0L Accord lol
My 13’ wrx hatch is easily one of my faves. Looks? Subjective. But the character it has is undeniable. Glad I’m part of the Subie community. 🤙
The blue looks SOOOOOO much better than that orange the initial renders had. Also really helps hide those fender covers. The styling is a step backwards yes, but the blue(any wrx/sti has to be)redeems it a little bit
the style may not be ur favorite but its a huge step fowards in terms of functionality. as someone who actually uses their subie, i can definitely appreciate the more offroady approach they're taking
@@buss1205 I love how the new WRX looks. Really anticipating getting mine
IMO the magnetite gray looks best this gen. Not only is it a super cool gun metal color, the cladding -instead of clashing with the color or contrasting it- compliments it.
The WRX is growing on me. Everyone always hates on the next gen WRX until everyone likes it.
It's almost a tradition within the Subie cult lmao
The cg8 is the one that everyone likes.
I just bought my first subaru at 56, having been a car guy my whole life. The overall impression so far is one of simple, uncompromising competence. If the WRX is anything like this, I can see why their followers are rabid badger loyal.
A rabid badger is better looking

I also bought my first Subaru WRX at mid age (also being a car guy) quickly traded it… I feel at our age we deserve more…went with a gentlemen sports car in a Audi S3 and have no regrets.
I bought my 02 WRX at 34 years old. Still have it and have modified it every step of the way. 2019 I bought a 09' Forester X which was supposed to be my winter car that replaced a 98' Audi A8 (electrical issues). Now it has a full suspension upgrade and handles like it on rails. I will be 55 this November and will never give up my babies.
congrats on your purchase! all you need is a vape now if you don't vape already lol
Amazing video (as always)! I really like how they have been adding bloopers to the end of their videos! Great work guys! 💙
I had an 08 STI. The hatch. And yep, it was fantastic. I spun a rod bearing because the oil pick up tube cracked ( known issue), and I had it built. Forged internals in a new short block, bigger turbo, e85, elh, etc. I loved it. It could literally do it all with 420 hp at the wheels (on e85). If they made a stock one with a hatch and at least 400hp I’d consider getting one. Unless they screwed up the looks…
At least the re-sale value is fantastic, helped me out putting money down on my 17 SS.
“A refined lumberjack is nothing more than a barista”. That’s great writing! TH rules out loud!
Throttle house is better than what used to be my favourite CZcams channel carwow, great work guys
I keep saying this but the production and quality of every video goes up with every upload. Such a fantastic channel
Showing the stars in the beginning, as a tribute to the Pleiades star cluster which the Subaru badge is a reference to, makes me appreciate you guys. Thanks for that. You've got a dedicated viewer now. Cheers
Subaru themselves said when they dropped the hatch for the 2015 model year, they didn't really notice a drop in sales much, if at all. That basically solidified its position in the grave. Saves them a lot of money and the customer doesn't care(proven with their wallet, where it counts. Also why manuals are dying cause people say they want them but then nobody buys them)
Sad but the truth. They ain’t about to comfort the minorities oppose to the majority.
I get the concern about the manual transmissions, but I think it's only true in time and place. The USDM complained enough that BMW retrofitted a six speed manual to the E60 M5 as an option for instance. Also, in cars like "ze Germans" you get a proper well sorted automatic that is in fact just better all around than an old school manual (you say you want the manual for gearhead points, but you know the auto is what you really want to live with). In the WRX? It's either a proper manual, or that reheated leftover of a CVT that all other manufacturers saw as useless in the face of newer and better autos and dumped it. If Subaru used a proper DCT or ZF automatic instead of that CVT, they'd sell WAY MORE. Not just auto vs manuals, but WRX's in total.
If this were any other car I would agree with manual transmission comment but according to Subaru themselves, 90% of all the WRXs they sold in the last generation were in fact manuals which makes it even more puzzling why they would only offer the GT trim with the CVT.
The only reason sales didn't drop is because the WRX still stands alone on the AWD/Turbo/6MT platform for 26-30k. If someone else pulled their head out of their ass and developed a 275-300HP hatchback with realtime AWD and a standard 6MT, Subaru would see sales drop almost immediately. It's just that there's no other option in that price range. Sure, we all want an AWD Hatch/Turbo/6MT, but you can't get one so a sedan is the next best thing...
@@pondmonserfox they've explained it - they see a market opportunity. When you think about it, it seems smart idea, however, the car looks old, like from the 2005.... Styling won't get any good for reaching the new customers, and I think it's a huge deal these days, people want to be noticed.
I'm still completely attached to my 2013 sti. It's not the most popular opinion but I think that the stink eye is the best looking subaru with a balance of modern and old tech. Imo, 2013 was the last year subaru felt right.
2014 was the last year they made the wide body Subie! I agree that's the best looking generation for sure!👍
@PYXB3 doesnt matter what happens before combustions die i will probably put everything in my hatch, i hate the new ones they get more girly every year. And theyre also sharing the same prices nowadays as gti's and others
Yessir I have a 2011 sti and I wouldn’t have it any either way 💪🏻
seems like the 2015 improved on it in all ways.. minus the loss of the hatch
I would definitely buy a hatchback version 🤭 in a heartbeat for my 2018 sti but I don’t like the interior in that model 😂
Thanks for the WRX video guys! Appreciate it. I've been waiting for this one.
Yeah, In Oregon USA. Called a bunch of dealers for this. None to be found. So… just bought a 2018 limited Sti, with no wing. No sales tax here . 20,000 miles. Out the door for $ 39400. I am driving one now for a month.
This is an amazing car if you like an engaged driving experience.
And the plastic that everyone is talking about,
The weight, the durability and no concern for oxidization were all considered when this car was engineered.
Absolutely love it.
Thank you for mentioning the rev hang question ; no current reviews talked about it. It was a big enough reason for me move on from Subaru as my next ride
Cobb stage 1 tune fixes it immediately. Not cheap, but have never regretted it and the tune adds a flatter torque curve and a bit more power
I owned a wrx and a STI…. Now I have a RS5. I love the power, the comfort and the look of the Audi but I miss the rumble and the fun of the 6 speed manual.
Good on you brother. I'll hop on the RS train some day I hope
Same also , I now own a 2019 RS5 sb
i'd rather have the feeling of missing and drive an RS5 lol keep winning King

Just 2-step your RS5. Audi/VW engines have the best sound when it comes to 2-step. Do this and you won't miss your Subaru. Everything about the Audi is better...
Faire points all around. Good choice showing the rally segment 👍👍
The editing is amazing! Cool review. I didnt like this car when it first came out but now it’s starting to grow on me
And so it begins lol… 😄 I’ve owned 3 generations of WRXs and every one grew on people over time
Subaru never known for "Love at the first sight" design
I have a 2021 WRX, and I would still pick that car over a 2022 simply for those ugly composite fenders around the wheels. So damn ugly.
Guys, as Canadians you can do something I haven't seen done yet with a modern touch-screen based car. Come up north with 3 all touch-screen, haptic feedback bs cars (actual north, but drivable, like Kapuskasing) park them outside on an average night, and then try to start them in the morning.
I want to see what the EQS acre-of-touchscreen dashboard, or the iPad in the Subie, looks like after 12 hours in -40°.
“10s of thousands would say i want it, and 5 would buy it” that explains most the people online. Haha
Throttle House, best car reviews period. Thanks again Gentlemen!
Rev hang in any newer vehicle is real. Got my revhang tuned out of my 08 Civic Si. 8400 RPM liked to hang for days.
Hanging onto my '12 wrx. 197k miles on the clock. Planning to drop a new engine in and STI transmission and go for another 100k. Although the new STI started to grow on me, if there's no hatch then I'm not super interested. Can't wait for the GR Corolla

Guay you are super fun and the way you transmitted is just great!
Love you guys and your videos.
The last 2 generations of the wrx were definitely more aggressive looking. Remember when the base 2011 Wrx got the flared fenders vents from the previous 2008-2010 STi, and quad tips? It made a huge difference in looks. Smart move to whoever picked up any last model run STi and even smarter jumping in before Covid hit. Still very interesting to see what they do with the next gen STi.
The next gen STI does look pretty interesting as to what could be done. However, one thing that’s sort of disappointing to me is how Subaru is known to make some of the sexiest concepts, yet dull the production versions of the car down. Look up any one of Subaru’s concepts (namely the WRX Concept from 2013) and it looked nice and solidly proportionate. I’m not saying the production version of the last gen WRX was dulled down or anything, but it could’ve still gotten the more honed and sharp traits of the concept.
I bought mine in November 2020 and now it’s worth more than what I paid for it 😂
I know right ? I actually blind bough a 21' STI 6 months ago and I have to say that was the best car decision I've ever made.( 1 of 2 sports cars ) With Hydraulic steering wheel in 2021 !!!! The other one is NOT out yet and its Lotus Emira. Im also interested if they kept hydraulic steering in the new gen STI, thats the only way I would ever consider getting one.
@WRX_Matt Congrats on the car bro !
@WRX_Matt I bet once you drive it for the first time, you were good and refreshed by end of day
I've had a car with cladding and it got so discolored from the sun it didn't look black anymore, almost instantly. Also saving most options for the cvt is ridiculously stupid.
It's because i'm betting this is the last generation of the ICE wrx and since electric cars don't have manual gearboxes, they want to have a bit of a normalish transition from their top their GT trim that has all the goodies an electric car would have too
You have to use some of that toxic back to black shit on it. Make sure to wear gloves and breathing protection because that stuff is toxic. Makes it look brand new for a couple of months.
You mean sUBaRu pErForManCe TrAnSmiSSon 😵💫
@@boostid8026 Can bet that this gearbox will hold much longer than manuals in most *homemade rally* owners hands...
@@jazenkow5792 my last car was a WRX CVT 2019. It had a transmission oil pan leak after 20k miles it was stage 1 +.. which I read up was probably the most power to make in a CVT. However, after getting the oil pan patched and additional research I sold it probably 4-5 months later. I picked up a 2019 STI.
CVT was a fun car! But it’s built for fuel economy not performance. Dual clutch would’ve been a much better transmission.
I’m speaking from Experience when I say avoid the CVT unless you plan on 0 mods besides maybe a exhaust.

Really great review! Thank you!!
Absolutely love your work and a total fanboy here! Would love to see you folks review the Toyota Sequoia and the Lexus LX 600 soon!
This really is what we wanted.. Better power band and increased response. Almost the same power, but it delivers in a way that's just smoother and more premium feeling. Plus you could throw 500whp and be relatively okay.
How are you going to throw 500whp at this WRX??
Yeah, you might be ok for a few miles at 500 hp with the stock block. true
Ive seen enough 500hp ones blow up lol u might be ok at 400 but on a stock block u are pushing it. Saying this is good for 500whp is basically saying this thing is almost good for almost 600 crank hp. Plus this looks like a flattened crosstrek
But did it have to be so ugly looking ? :( It's a mute Karen sedan now.
Looks like dog shit though
This is the first review of this car I've seen that actually went off the tarmac!

Having sold every since version... every single one was HATED for its looks when it came out. Go back to forums for 2014/15 everyone HATED IT! Said it looked like a Camera. The Bug Eye when it came out was hated MOST in my experience.
Yeah idk if there's saving that plastic tho. I get hating a new design but this is hating a new design that somehow looks more dated than the one before.
The bug eye was the best looking..lol
@@zcmdzpp127 and it was hated the most tho
The 2010 widebody update was pretty universally liked, as was the hawk eye in 2006.
@@Trendyflute people like the Hawkeye because there so few..just one year 2006..lol
I still love my 2020, i think the looks overall went down, drive ability probably increased slightly but with no major updates to the trans/power output so I wouldn't consider the new generation much of an upgrade from the last, but if i didn't have my VA I could still see myself getting the 2022 because it's basicly the VA with the few gripes fixed + some plastic so it looks different.
Interior looks more in line with the 2020s decade, however i still prefer the cool customizable top screen you can display your oil temp/boost%/mpg etc, with the touch screen for Maps and spotify and the physical knobs and bottons for the climate controls/buttwarmers. It's the perfect combination. The base model interior for the 2022 is atrocious, compared to the outgoing base model.
My conclusion: Still a great car and choice for what we love about subaru, boxer engines and turbos and good suspension and AWD system. The looks will grow on everyone, it seems half of the Subaru community sees someone buy any generation subaru and goes "looks great throw some wheel arches and a lip kit on it and it'll be great!" and as soon as one comes from the factory with it everyone hates it. I'm not saying the backend looks good, the VA was perfect for the amount of plastic back there
What gripes do you have with your ‘20? Rev GABF still an issue, currently looking at some ‘21’s.
How did I just find you guys now? WTF, you guys relate so well.

In 2019 I was in a Subaru dealership for several hours. I was on the brink of buying a WRX. It was great. I loved the speed, I loved the practicality, I live in Iowa so there's no shortage of snow or gravel roads, I loved the look. but in the end I didn't buy it for one reason and one reason only: rev hang. Here I am having driven a Jeep Patriot for the last 4 years and I like it, but I'm ready to give another WRX a try. Let's hope this is a good one.
As someone who bought a 2021 model, I've never been happier with my purchase...
Fuk these bots, NO ONE falls for u
Stink eye was the last time the wrx looked and sounded great. Loved my 2013 for 128k miles until it blew the engine.
The WRX and Golf R hold their value like few cars. There's a reason why. This is the rough tough version of the R. I love it including the cladding (which is good for rallying) other than the rear end.
That opening sequence is everything 🤣😭
Light steering is good for rally. It would be sensory overload to feel every surface imperfection on the stage.
Good comment. Also, I have been driving a 2022 WRX for a month and have not felt at all that it does not have a good steering. My car is still in the break-in period, so I am treating it gently, but feels pretty solid so far and sends on a lot of confidence. Definitely, the steering does not feel below anything in this price range (speacially if you value having AWD and a stick). I own a 2014 BMW M135i and the WRX is close to match and even superior in some respects.
It's definitely very sensitive steering but that makes it that much better to drive imo
Everytime I see the back of the car, the black plastic reminds me of Tombstone from Death Race Mustang. Might as well make the whole back bumper unpainted plastic at this point
I needed to see these two. As usual fantastic , oh yeah from a day one btw
colour grading was on point. beautiful
This WRX is starting to look better day by day. It's a fun car to drive, practical and lots of room to make this a beast
I’d love to own one, found a few in my area for around 31k for a base model, or around 35k for a premium. Still higher than it should be but that’s todays economy lol

GRvCorolla is disappointing in both looks and price tag.
Opening.....Nailed it!
“The back is like a big black diaper.” Now I can’t unsee it either. Haha
The black cladding & trim makes the WRX look like a rally car of the future. No paint makes total sense, I love it. Great bold choice Subaru!
Agree! It's like the only car on earth that rocks the cladding but people still complain lol
I miss my old Hawkeye STi. Then again, I miss my old Evo VIII MR even more 😭😭😭
That “get-in” helmet in the intro gets me every time!
I had a 2016. Am I the only one who thought it felt cheap and not all that sporty? Even my wife who’s not a car enthusiast thought the brakes were terrible. The suspension also felt cheap. I always thought that Subaru made the components cheap on purpose since they figured that every owner would throw aftermarket parts on it anyway.
The brakes are my biggest complaint about my 2018. It took a master cylinder brace, better pads, a fluid change and stainless lines to make it feel passable.
There VERY VERY lazy but have a cult following it's a strange community
You do have to mod them to bring out their full potential. If you know what your doing, and do the work yourself, it's not that expensive for the massive increase in performance you'll get. I spent $700 for 06/07 wrx 4 pot fixed calipers and EBC redstuff pads and better brake fluid for my 18' Impreza hatch. Brake peddle is linear now and very sensitive. The car stops on a dime. The sliding calipers are garbage, and it's a shame they put those on a "sports" car like the wrx at that. Lighting wheels, michelin pilot sports, and front + rear strut tower braces make a big difference and keep the car very flat and grippy in corners. You just have to put in some extra money and work.
I saw it in an authoshow and liked the design overall. Loved the interior. I think the STI will get rid of the cladding or add an option for it to be painted as body color. We have to thank subaru for still making fun cars with manuals.
Terrific review!!
Loved my 2013 wrx sedan! LOVED it!
The WRX is like a girl you don't want to be seen with so you have to drive out of town to have some fun with her once in a while 😉
Damn
I just want to say I used to take my gti off road all the time, it was great fun on gravel. Subaru are definitely the better choice for gravel though, hands down. My R can keep up with them quite well, but that's a different price bracket all together normally.
I agree subaru is good on gravel. I also used to take my 5th gen prelude off road while camping 🏕 😅. I've had it for 17 years and still running strong. Still get compliments ☺ 🙂
@@markymark3071 I'm a big vw nerd now but grew up a total jdm fanboi lol. Still have a huge soft spot in my heart for the prelude though, they're just so cool
Personally love the style and overall wide body look of like the 2011-14 years but the more upgraded “newer” features of 2015-2021!!!!
Kinda wish they would bring back the 2011-2014 style and hatch and give it alllll the upgrades and features of a 2021 model 😎
I got the first generation of WRX to come to the USA and it was so much fun being the fastest car away from a stoplight, always (if you were willing to abuse the clutch). Now I have a Tesla Model 3 performance and its like those days, except times 5, and no clutch is getting abused, heh.
Hoping the active suspension and other bits come to the WRX at the refresh, shame to lock those behind a CVT. Nice review, hoping the upcoming STI will offer up some nice OEM turbo upgrades for WRX owners now that they share a common engine.
How bad is CVT? Is it really Jerky? Like the gear changes throw you around?
@@lightorchestrator Motormouth said that the CVT was decent. I still got the manual, though, and it's one of the easiest manuals that I've driven.
Great show guys, makes my day everytime! Aa for this WRX Subaru has lost its way when it comes to design and it shows across their entire range. It's going to cost them, Pity.
Yes i agree i have been waiting for another wrx hatchback would buy it in a heart beat
Upon suggestion from the Everyday Driver guys, I checked out your channel and wow - what a find! Awesome channel and videos!
Oh that’s awesome. Where did they say that?
@@jamesengelsman9369
They mentioned it on their most recent (live) podcast when a listener asked Todd what his favorite CZcams channels were.
When the last generation of WRX came out (Evo eye) I instantly fell in love, though I went for the BRZ cause I wanted a 2 door. But still a very nice car. This is... eh. The front end is nice, the hood scoop looks better, love the seats and the gauges. But I hate that plastic cladding, the entire rear end, and that huge IPAD.. terrible. Don't see this generation being too popular.
People said the same about the new BRZ, but I can already see the massive change in opinion on it, and I know it will be exactly the same with this car
@@Fifthcell Nah, when the new BRZ came out, it was a change, yes, but most people welcomed it. The exact same goes for the new civic. I've personally always loved both. The hate is justified on the new WRX.
- The plastic cladding in general (at least color match it),
-An awkward, unproportioned, and bloated rear end.
-The massive IPAD that looks completely out of place,
- Barely any increase in engine performance.
- Locking the Recaro seats and adaptive suspension behind the CVT???
@@Fifthcell nah man I have the 2022 GR86 and not one person has told me they like the first gen better or they’re not sure about the looks. I’d say it’s pretty well accepted/appreciated in my personal experience.
@@garboi8976 really? I’ve only heard negatives about it when it was introduced. I’m glad to hear it’s being accepted though
@@Fifthcell at the few meets I’ve been to so far it’s definitely been a talking piece for sure. All compliments besides the occasional “it’s slow” “where’s the turbo” type stuff. Maybe since they’re uncommon where I live people are just excited to see one 🤷🏻♂️
As someone who has driven a ‘new’ (evoeye) wrx and owns a blob eye, I can say that the changes are minimal to the driving feel and this feels like a continuation of that… everything about the car is almost the same, the clutch, transmission, and the steering feel are all so similar (steering was the biggest improvement I noticed) but I like that my old turbo hatchback doesn’t feel too dated compared to the new
Did you guys move to Cali? LOL Fantastic content as always. I promote you guys as much as I can!
Soooo happy I jumped and got my 21 wrx while I still could instead of waiting for this one. Legit got it the week of cut off from factory orders earlier this year
I've always found recent Subarus have comatose steering feel. Shame to see the WRX keeps that trend going.
How was steering feel in the 13 WRX? I'm thinking about buying one!
I couldn't give a shit about the styling but I NEED steering feel in my cars. Same goes for post 2011 BMW 😭
@@germanengineering204 2013 still has a hydraulic rack so you're good
@@dw4686 Thanks for the feedback really good to know 👍
Im glad i went with a 2020 sti. Even though dated, no one can deny the drive is alot of fun and still more engaging then others
Did you just say your 2020 is dated?
@@garethwillmott4234 he’s probably referring to it having an old engine etc. Dated in some ways, but still a great car and very formidable
Dated engine = Very proven engine that works very well
@@garethwillmott4234 engine
Not to mention the 2020 sti looks better than this new ugly as fuck subaru
The 2011-2012 WRX STI hatches are some of the coolest looking cars ever produced. I drooled over them when they came out. Unfortunately, I was just a broke college kid at the time and couldn’t afford one.
Amazing video editing !!!
I went out and bought a new '21 WRX once I saw how ugly the next gen was. No joke.
Sold my '18 WRX and bought a '19 STi before prices went through the roof lmao
Jay I went and sold my 2020 Wrx for a 21 sti limited 6 months ago after seeing the new model.
