- Videos covers the DIY installation and retrofit bi-xenon projectors into factory halogen headlights. It shows how to remove your headlights, how to polish your headlights correct, how to remove the lens from the headlight housing, how to install the projector into the headlight, and finally it shows before and after pictures.
The projectors used in this video are mini H1 bixenon projectors. They are designed for vehicles that have factory H4 or 9003 halogen headlights. The retrofit headlights were installed on a 2002 1st gen Toyota Tacoma.
The procedure is as follows:
1. remove headlights from vehicle (this is different based on your car)
2. Remove all of the auxiliary items from the headlights
3. Bake the headlights for 290 degrees for around 5-10 mins
4. pry the lens open using leverage
5. Remove the bulb holder and securing nut from projector
6. Drill a small hole in the headlights for the bi-xenon wires
7. Insert H4 ring into headlight and install projector putting silicone anti-vibration ring on the back of the projector before sliding it into place. Make sure bi-xenon wires are routed through the hole drilled into the lights. When the projector is fully seated, use the securing nut to tighten it. Reinstall the bulb holder.
8. Epoxy and glue in the chrome shroud
9. Use windshield gasket maker around the perimeter of the house and reinsert lens. Use some pliers to secure lens back to headlight
10. Bake again at 290 degrees for 5-10 mins
11. insert HID and get wiring completed
12. Reinsert in car and enjoy! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Excellent video dude, you actually showed how to put the bulb in from behind step by step. Night and day difference in your quality of demonstration compared to others. Great work 💯
Upvoted especially for clearly showing the order of putting on the big silicone washer, projector in the reflector hole, small silicone washer, metal washer, metal nut, bulb holder.
After polishing your lights get a uv resistant clear spray paint and spray it over you'll thank me later
What an excellent vids mate. Thanks.
Thank you man really nice video
Very helpful thanks
Might be the next project for my minivan. lol
I already have HIDs in it, but I have to aim them kinda low to prevent dazing other drivers. Even then, I'm not totally happy with it. Better than halogens, but would be nice to have the better look, and safer projection. This summer should be fun.
did you do it?
Thank you 👍🏻
So nice viedo. Like it
Assuming u have fully fixed and reassemble back the headlight. How do u adjust the angle of d lighting?
How you did you get the LED bulbs for the projector? Cuz is look like fiting really good and aesy to install
What’s the purpose of the flap and motor on the projector lens and how did you wire it? Thanks.
If you want HID's on your vehicle, then first do a retrofit like this and then install HID's so that you wont be blinding other drivers. This is a Great video
say my standard headlight spec is 55w and the retrofit projector is 80w. how do i match these?
How and where do you connect the bixenon harness
Does it have to be a H1 bulb? Can i use a H9?
Como conectan el motor para activar la luz alta?
how does the smaller red and black wire up too?
hi, thank you for your video. I want to know whether you meant 290 celcius or fahrenheight to heat the headlight. if possible please add the manufacturer or an online link to buy the projector set.
Sisitha Chamika - I meant 290 degrees Fahrenheit. I will update the link for you shortly. Thanks for watching and please subscribe
@@UsefulVids thank you!
it's possible to place led in projector bi-xenon?
Wjat to do with the wire which is connected to the lens and you cut it off. What is function of that??
Hey im installing the same projectors in my vw jetta and had a quick question, i have 3 wires going to my headlight, a ground and a power for high beam and power for low beam and power gets cutoff from high to low beam wire when you alternate between high and low so how should i wire it because if i supply power to bulb from low beam wire that would work for my low beams but if i wire high beam wire to the projector selinoid power will be cut off from bulb when i change to high beam, im thinking my best bet is to wire in an on/off switch for the selinoid but was wondering if you were able to keep constant power to bulb and still work high and low beam with factory switch
You will need to get a HID relay that has provisions for the High beam wires. It will take power directly from the battery so you won't lose low beam if you activate the high beams.
What size is that you've fitted... Is 2.5 inch better or 3 inch?
Hello :) thx for THE help :D have ordered h4 reley :D Anny tips on how to know that THE projector is straight and not croced?:)
You can use an aux battery to test before tightening it. Just make sure the high beam motor is facing down.
@@UsefulVids oh thx :D
Daniel Levau we have the same pfp 💀
Does it have a adjustable low beam cutoff height?
Yes
Was the 4500k at 35 or 55w?
So the back of your headlamp isn't plastic? Mine are plastic pretty sure baking is going to melt them.
do you have a link to the kit that you purchased?
This is what I was wondering. I'm thinking of doing something similar on my mk3, 'cause I broke the glass on one of them while I was fixing something else, so I'm going to have to replace them anyway... I figure may as well give it an aesthetic update while I'm in there... >_>
Where i connect the red and black wire coming from the projector...? Answer pls?
Jhunto Domalus you’ll need a hi/low relay harness
Hi. How do you know its put in level? What if the xenon points up in the sky or oncoming traffic etc. Thanks
He missed (or didn't show) the part where you should put your headlights back in your car, after you finished installing the projector and bulbs but before finally sealing them, and check how level the light pattern is in a wall. It's recommended that you get in front of a wall about 20 feet from it with your stock bulbs still and measure the beam pattern on the wall, then use that measure after you install the projector as a reference for leveling them. Most of the times the bulbs on them need to be shim so the cutoff line gets aligned properly with the hotspot of the bulb.
@@jellyg.8961 Thank you for pointing out this VERY CRITICAL phase of the retrofit! The author of this video chose to put more emphasis on polishing the headlights, which you can always do at a later time . Instead , he seals up the housings not knowing if the whole retrofit is even going to work! At least fire up the lights and check the projector shutter a few times! TOTAL MORON!
I have 2 bulbs in my 1994, one for hi beam and one for low beam. I ordered this exact kit and bulbs, everything fits and is good to go, but I wanted to ask how do you wire the red and black wires for the bi-xenon retractable flip thing? Also, since I have 2 bulbs for each side, how would I wire each headlight so that both hi beam and lo beam OEM wiring is running thru the low beam, and when I turn on the hi-beam's, that powers the bi-xenon retractable flip thing? Idk if i explained that well enough lol Please let me know..
Need to buy a wiring harness. They will take your current setup and output the wires for a h1 connection and the bi-xenon wire connector. Example: 9005+9006 connector to a h1 bi-xenon connector.
@@UsefulVids Perfect - got it ordered already! Apparently its called a quad bi-xenon setup lol and i need a molex to 9005 converter lol Thank you so much! I'll post videos building them when theyre finished!
@@UsefulVids hey what kit did you get and from where again?
Did u have a relay installed for the hi/lo to work?
Kay Saephan yes, you will need a high low fuse relay for the operation of the high and low beams. In this instance we were using a 9004 relay.
Where is the link to buy???
Can u give me a link to the headlight bulb kit? Or tell me exactly what to search? And u said u would go over the wiring if someone asked so like can u just give me the link to the exact things u bought?😂 I'm asking cuz I have the same truck and wanna do the same exact thing. Appreciate it and love the truck💪🏻
I am looking too for a set of suitable HID kit for the projector retrofit. Standard hid kits have the bulbs way too short
Why some car headlight projectors no matter you are viewing it from looks always black, and some not ??My car has factory projector headlights, but they are not black...only sometimes viewing it from strange angle looks black ?
Wait are these the ones for only the like low beams or are they the low and high beams combined. I literally read that not to long ago and forgot everything on that.
If it has wiring then it's most likely to have both low and high beams.
If it's only a low beam it'll just be the projector and the housing because it'll just porject whatever light the bulb is giving out
I know this is an old video, but I gotta ask: I have a 2004 Acura TSX, though in SA it’s called Honda Accord. Car comes standard with Projectors, but for some reason the Projectors are loose and seem to be dirty and worn out. Is it possible to just buy a kit like this and replace my old Projectors with these new ones?
Yes, this is possible. You may need to modify the mounting points but shouldn’t have too much difficulty.
Did it improved visibility at all? How does it feel while raining at night?
Yes. It’s much better for both dry and wet conditions. Proper adjustment of lights after installation is key.
Very nice video, but you didn't showed where we have to connect that red&black cables of projector..??? Plz help
The red black wires go to the high beam wires. My car has a single bulb with high and low beam. To activate the high beam, you have connect the red and black wires from the projector to your appropriate wires for high beam on your car. I hope this helps!
@@UsefulVids bro I know the purpose of red&black wires. But I want to know where did you connect them? Did you hot wire..?? Or can you send me the pics on my WhatsApp that where you have connected them. Plz help 😓😓😓
The red wore gets connected to the signal wire (hot) that gets activated when you switch on the high beam function. The black wire can go to any ground.
@@UsefulVids can you send me the pics on my WhatsApp plz it will be very helpful
Hi, thanks for video. But I would like to ask a question about connection of wires. My car use orginally h4 bulb like your car and its port has three terminal such as low and high beams and ground. So now I install an H1 projector. Now how can connect this wire to my H4 port? Should I convert my orginally H4 port to H1 or are there any solution to connect the wires? Can you help me? Thanks.
I searched this type of video to see why retrofitting your headlights is so expensive. Now I know why. It's not because people are afraid to do it, but how much time and labor it takes to install and put it back together scares people away and let pros do it instead.
I did it myself, took a few days to complete due to wiring and alignment issues. Extremely frustrating.
If you have the money, let the pros do it.
Think of them as fun little LEGO projects😉 It will take a day or two but its fun and will be worth it in the end.
How will you use pass light with HID?
It takes few seconds to heat up the bulbs, and if frequently switched off and on, the bulbs will blow.
The HIDs don't get switched on/off for passing, the motor inside the projector moves the light assembly to a different position when high beams are turned on. When they are turned off, the motor moves the light assembly back to the low beam position.
@@UsefulVids I know that but that's when headlights are switched on, that means during the night, I am asking during day?
@@ShaitaanBachha I see. New HIDs have special circuits built in to provide stable power - you should use an HID relay that's connected directly to 12V battery. That way, you have stable 12V and turning on brights during the day is no problem. You need the newest HID ballast, 12v HID relay, and 12v battery in good condition. I am still using mine after 2 years, no problem. Hope this helps.
@@UsefulVids do LEDs have this problem?
@@MarstaJNZ nope. LED will straight away light up.
Hello brother i have separate bulbs for high and low beam so do i also need hi lo relay or convertor i have Renault/ Dacia Duster please tell
KING MUZIC You shouldn't need the high/low relay if you have separate bulbs for those functions. As long as the connectors are the same for the new projector and your old bulbs.
I use H1 and H7 led bulbs will these work fine with them.
KING MUZIC no, these projectors are dual high/low built into one projector.
Which one the one you are using or the one i showed you
I mean if i want to use the one i showed i need to buy two for high beam and two for low beam and will these work with h1 and h7 bulbs the one i showed please tell and will i need any brackets to hold them firmly in the lights
Do the projectors have to be vehicle specific?
Yes. You will need a projector that will fit inside of your housing. Also, you will need to ensure the bulb type matches with your factory headlight connectors. If not, you may be able to buy connector converters or a HID relay.
How do I wire up the high beam function for bixenon
You connect the red and black wire for the bi-xenon motor to your high beam wiring. Or you can get a hid relay.
Useful Vids thanks for the reply, I just installed my retrofit as is, I’m looking into a splitter wire for the high beam. So we I can run the stock hi beam and projectors in tandem
Sir is it works hi and low both beams...?
Yes, It is a bi-xenon projector.
He didnt show conecting wires from projector to the high beam connector
Were can I get the same kit i have a 2003 tacoma I been looking but I can't find it please help
Armando search for 2.5” mini hid projector on Amazon. Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks for replying
I would like to get the same kit couse it was super easy for the install also no need to cut out the headlight housing

Can you place an H1 LED instead of H1 HID?
Yes, but be aware that LEDs usually have a big fan or heat dissipation strips on the back of the bulbs. You’ll need lots of room behind the headlights once installed due to this.
I would recommend against using plug and play leds in a hid projector. You would get inferior beam pattern.
can i get a link to the projectors? thanks!
Did you got a link by any chance?
@@abnerhagelsieb nope :/
Hi!!! I am installing the same projector. Can you guide me how can i install red led stripe lights the demon lights.
Just connect the wires from led strip to parking lights (hot and negative) or low beam. Then it will come on either with parking lights or when low beam is on.
bonsoir vous avez pas montre l'alimentation des câblage
Where can I buy the projectors?
Try eBay
Very nice 👌 vlog.
Have these bi xenon lights or projectors failed ever?
No, not really. You will need to change a bulb once in a while though.
@@UsefulVids .. thanks brother... Are ballasts do well? What's their life in general? What's the cost of the bulb?
@@vikramb149 Ballasts do well if you use high-quality units, I would estimate that would last around 2-3 years or more.
@@UsefulVids which is the best brand for ballasts & projector for Renault Duster?
@@vikramb149 Try to find authentic ballasts made by Philips or Hella if possible. There are lots of fakes out there, so be careful!
why bake aswell as use sealant?
Baking again allows me to get a watertight seal. After baking you'll push the body and lens together to create that "oem" leak proof seal.
Big mistake. Halogen bulbs provide more vision. You should have tried slightly more watt halogen bulb instead.
Eww halogens suck at least on my car they do lol
@@Audi197 Try some good companies halogens , like Philips night breaker .
@@anoopraha7166
I have, and they are not better.
The conversion to projector is by far the best, you can now put some leds in it to. Instead of that stupid blinding reflector mods
Lol nobody in history thinks halogen are better then authentic hid projectors
Where I get these in India?
