  • The reminder and takeaway I had when watching this is that those that have suffered dementia can never really forget us... This is such a tender song. This will speak to those of us that have endured a loved one entering into this stage of life.

    Sondre said:
"This song is perhaps the most patient of all the Patience-songs I juggled during the recording of the album.
But the song felt so overwhelming and heavy that I never managed to record it.
I had also always heard another voice sing it inside me, and suddenly AURORA's voice began to appear in
my head when I was out jogging. Her own "Exist For Love" is one of my favorite songs this year, and I felt a vague
    kinship between these two songs.
I told her about the text, and topics such as lust, love and dementia. What the body and heart remember when memory
slowly pulverized. And he who remains and mourns and can not forget. It seems that most people have experience
with dementia in close family in our time.
Two weeks ago I asked AURORA if she would sing "Alone In The Night" with me and she immediately said yes.
A week ago we recorded it. AURORA lifts the song far beyond my most hopeful hopes. She holds one
absolutely exceptional musicality, a precision and a presence that really touches me."

Fun fact(s)..... Sondre wrote this song years before he finally decided to record it for his album Avatars of Love.
He initially wanted Aurora to just double his vocal, an octave up. But Aurora wanted to do much more because she is, in her own words, "a harmony machine." ALSO...Aurora herself wrote a good chunk of the string arrangements, which wasn't initially prominent in the song. But Aurora came up with several intertwining melodic lines for the strings...and Sondre loved the whimsical and romantic feeling it brought to the otherwise dark song.
So yeah.....Aurora is an intuitive musical genius. And to think Sondre just thought she would double his vocal up an octave and that's all lol....

I listen to this song almost every day... It is on my "calm down" playlist before going to sleep...
In june I went to Bergenfest in Bergen (consert festival), Aurora and Sondre's home town. I watched Sondre and A-ha one day, and Aurora the next. My first for both of them, A-Ha i have seen live before, but "a few" years ago, 1988.... That is a few years ago... can't be more than 20 I feel..... ;-)
Sondre has his own style also.... his songs are often (?) LONG.....His concert was very good! It was "ruined" a bit; A-Ha played 1 hour after him at another stage, a lot of people walked out to secure a good spot for the A-Ha concert. But I liked him! I would love to see him again. He is actually playing at the same concert (opening?) in the summer, I will try to go there....

The slow gentle pace of this song embodies dementia. I have watched my Dear-old-Dad slowly disappearing over the last 6 years. As a full time carer until a year ago (he is now in a home). The slow inevitability of the disease is the debilitation, both of the sufferer and those close to them. We are nothing but patterns in our brain and as those patterns are destroyed we slowly disappear.

Thank you very much for a beautiful reaction to my recommendation. I knew you would do a great job with it, and I wasn't wrong. I see that your numbers struggle a bit when you're not reacting to rap but there IS more to the world of music than just one genre😉

A beautiful song with a delightful video. About the video:-
Cast your mind back to HAIK, when Christine brings the two fans to see Aurora. This is the same building, just past the old quarter, Bryggen in Bergen.
They walk past the old wooden buildings alongside and the cross the main road to sit on the small wooden pier.
The elevated shots are on the roof of the building looking out over the harbour.

If anyone is interested.....there's an absolutely delightful podcast where Aurora and Sondre basically just chat casually for about 45 minutes. It came out around the release of this song. And it's on CZcams.
They talk about the song, and many many other things....the way two old friends would talk. But we get to hear it. Also, in that podcast...Sondre came across as super likeable and cool. He's from Bergen as well, but sounds _very_ American, which they actually discuss at the top of the episode. But yeah, after listening to that....I can totally see why they're both friends. Sondre and Aurora really complemented each other nicely. Both on that podcast....and of course this song.

A good reaction to this beautiful and important song. Thank you for sharing your insights on this, I'm sorry to hear about so many of your family suffering from dementia. I feel like the style of the song is as if it could have been from the time, when many of those who suffers from dementia, were young. Parts of the music video looks like it could have been from the time when a couple first became friends or fell in love. I love the nostalgic, romantic tune. Though at about 13.50 the shift in the mood of the song, creates a sense of horror, like dementia does. The structure of the song almost resembles dementia: The fact that the song is so slow and long, with three verses, the lyrics repeated three times, in stead of normally two... Like a brain slow/on repeat, and the slight hesitation after "Will you know me...". It's so cleverly and heartbreakingly done.

Thank you Chris first to make me listen to this wonderful song again after several months, and secondly to see a reaction from someone who really understands it first hand. Many don´t and say it´s too long, repetitive and boring. I believe it needs the time to deliver the bittersweet message: Nothing is eternal, neither our memories, and sometimes sicknesses like Alzheimer expose our fragility. This sadness is beautifully decorated by the strings and background music, and emphasized by the distortions. The song has quite a history and was put on ice by Sondre for several years. They are friends and know each other at least since 2014. He had Aurora´s voice in his head when searching for the female counterpart and sent her a version of this song on the phone just with guitar. Aurora liked it very much and could imagine herself be part of it too. After this they rehearsed it together in her apartment and she had quite an influence on the way it was sung and also the idea of incorporating the strings originates from her.

Alzheimer's was ruled out, his movements are so slow he thought he might have Parkinson, with dementia from blood loss to the brain, 90% blockage in vessels, or Lewy Body. But we had to return to the Philippines. He is fighting against going to doctors. He is losing his words especially his English, and I only speak English. Some days are better than others.

Following the release of the album, Lerche unveils his new video in celebration of the last song in the album titled “Alone in the Night” featuring Aurora, another talented Norwegian vocalist. In the track, Lerche starts off demonstrating his talent. Aurora jumps in shortly after, both creating a perfect harmony. The song’s theme is about loneliness, yet feeling close to their partner. The music video is just as charming, as both Lerche and Aurora can be seen recording the track. The two can also be seen spending time together, walking by the shore, on a rooftop and picking flowers.

LOve your reaction to this song which I really love a lot myself, I'm returning to it again and again. Their voices do fit so nicely together! Sondre had written the song, pondering recording it when he heard Aurora doing her 'Exist for Love' and knew right away that she was the one to do this duet with him.
Sondre's surname Lerche is the german spelling of Lark (as in the songbird). He is also from Bergen as Aurora is, but has been living in Brooklyn last 15 years, done much of his studio work in LA. He was noticed at the music clubs in Bergen at age 13, signed at age 16, first album when 19, his 12th album - Avatars of Love - was released earlier this year.
More from Sondre? 'Two Way Monologue' MV is lovely, and fun - czcams.com/video/CmQyasIZYZ0/video.html . Two more rescent ones are 'I Can't See Myself Without You' - also fun and nice -czcams.com/video/1L4ZLDNNp_Y/video.html , and 'Summer In Reverse (feat. CHAI)' - czcams.com/video/I5ts5YE6kfg/video.html . Sondre's channel: czcams.com/channels/yWuaLsD1yeInrDusJNHp8Q.html .

Hello Chris, AURORA is a master of soft tones, sad tones. Here in a really outstanding duet.
I recommend you a song by AURORA that just reappeared a few weeks ago. It's a Leonard Cohen song. But AURORA grew up with his music and adored him very much. It's beautifully sung.
If you don't know the original, it certainly makes sense to hear it first. I was surprised how she brought it into a modern form without changing the content or the effect of the song.
