    Thank you for the reaction.
A beautiful duet, revealing more layers of Aurora’s voice. And Sondre’s.
"Sondre Lerche: Alone in the Night was the first recording I did for the Avatars of Love album. It put everything in motion, and surprised me greatly. I heard Aurora’s voice singing it in my mind one day when I was out running in the sun. So I asked her if she'd sing it with me. It felt extra special, because I had just returned home to Bergen after 15 years of living in the US. And she was one of the first to greet me there.
It's a song about what happens to our bodies and souls when we fall in love, and then again through the passage of time, when we age and die. It's ultimately about our memories and dementia. How frail we really are, and how heartless the process of aging can be to lovers.”

Such a gorgeous duet. That breathy word by Aurora in the beginning melts my heart each time. The premise of this song is about an elderly couple dealing with dementia which makes some of the lyrics quite poignant-Do you know me? Will I know you? etc. The whole ensemble of strings and their perfectly matched vocals makes this a modern yet classic song- timeless and classy! Loved it!

Hello Adam, thank you for reacting to this beautiful, yet sad love song. People say it is too long. People say it is too repetitive, or even boring. For me it has the perfect length. Considering it´s not just about love and desire, but about what happens to our bodies and souls during life, I think it needs the time to deliver the bittersweet message: Nothing is eternal, neither our memories, and sometimes sicknesses like Alzheimer expose our fragility. This sadness is beautifully portrayed by the strings and background music, and also by the distortions. It has quite a history and was put on ice by Sondre for several years. They are friends and know each other at least since 2014. He had Aurora´s voice in his head when searching for the female counterpart. He sent her a version of this song on the phone just with guitar. Aurora liked it very much and could imagine herself be part of it too. After this they rehearsed it together in her apartment and she had quite an influence on the way it was sung and also the idea of incorporating the strings comes from her. ❤

Sondres recent album "Avatars of love" blew me away and become my favorite album of this summer. Perfect choice for listening on late evenings or walks in nature. The whole album has this dreamy- like float, a spiritual "spa" for the soul.

      I'm so checking it out.
I tend to listen to mostly things like Tool, Deftones, more alternative metal....and a lot of shoegaze and dream pop. And of course Aurora. But this song 100% captivated me. And not just because of Aurora. I was hooked by Sondre's entire mood....

Great reaction, Adam 🙂 You know, the first time I heard this song I though kinda like "OH, that was a beautiful song and composition."Then, when the message about dementia sunk in, this song just became THAT more beautiful. Then the section from 5:45 to 6:45 just hits differently. I love what they did here♥♥♥♥♥ Take care, Adam🙂

Adam, thank you so much! LOve your reaction to this song which I really love a lot myself, I'm returning to it again and again. Their voices do fit nicely together don't they!
Sondre's surname Lerche is the german spelling of Lark (as in the songbird). He is also from Bergen as Aurora is, but has been living in Brooklyn last 15 years, done much of his studio work in LA. He was noticed at the music clubs in Bergen at age 13, signed at age 16, first album when 19, his 12th album - Patience - was released earlier this year.
More from Sondre? 'Two Way Monologue' mv is lovely, and fun - czcams.com/video/CmQyasIZYZ0/video.html . Two more rescent ones are 'I Can't See Myself Without You' - also fun and nice -czcams.com/video/1L4ZLDNNp_Y/video.html , and 'Summer In Reverse (feat. CHAI)' - czcams.com/video/I5ts5YE6kfg/video.html . Sondre's channel: czcams.com/channels/yWuaLsD1yeInrDusJNHp8Q.html .

Wow, intuition told me to come here, Aurora's name in combination with another one, and that on your channel... I'm very positively surprised, this is the first Aurora that will make it on a playlist of mine, I appreciate her as an artist but usually don't listen to her songs more than two or three times... but this is a great recording, that duet is amazing and brings forward Aurora's best qualities... I will easily listen to this dozens of times... Thanks for introducing me! :D

On repeated listening, focus on the harmonies from Aurora. She often adds her vocals in subtle, understated ways to accentuate both voices, not needing to be at the forefront or be overwhelming. It truly demonstrates her musicality and humbleness.

Aurora has gone from "Euro pop electronica" to "80' retro pop" to now with this, "Exist For Love" and "Potion For Love", to "Timeless". She's a Time Lord, I tell you! Where's the Tardis?

  • @mathildeeide3138

I think the sound is deliberately dated back to the fourties og fifties because that's the time old people of today met and fell in love, and now experience the consequenses of alzheimers, which is the theme of the song. Will you know me by heart?

    Ooohhhh YES! :D
I've been hoping you'd get around to this one. It's become an unlikely favorite of mine lately.
I'm a big alternative metal fan....and yet, I love this. It helps I'm also a massive Aurora fan, but man...this song is _so_ breezy and lush and playful and mellow and has such a calming vibe. I love that little 5 note descending motif midway through the song....the whole track is full of subtle little musical ideas like that.
I'm normally not into music like this....but maybe I should be? Or at least I need to check out Sondre Lerche now...

    • @avedic
      @avedic Před 2 lety

Gah.....so glad I got another chance to hear this song.
I really do love the melody and how the chord structure follows the melody...rather than the other way around. It's very classic, very jazzy, very mid century. And I like how the melody sort of holds all this tension throughout...never quiiiite resolving. It keeps you hanging. Also that descending motif I mentioned is at 3:39 in this video. It's SO good. Such a small subtle moment...but I love it.

Film location is Bergen where they’re both from. Well Aurora grew up about 40 minutes from Bergen, but she’s living there now and she loves this beautiful city on the west coast of Norway ❤️
