Oscar-nominated actor Michael Keaton's first job was as a stagehand on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, manning Picture, Picture, and appearing as Purple Panda. Rogers also managed to convince the Supreme Court that using VCRs to record TV shows at home shouldn’t be considered a form of copyright infringement (which was the argument of some in this contentious debate). Rogers argued that recording a program like his allowed working parents to sit down with their children and watch shows as a family.

PBS introduced me to 3 amazing people as a young boy...Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood), LeVar Burton (Reading Rainbow), and Bob Ross (Joy Of Painting). Even as a child I could perceive their sincerity, that they weren't simply performing for the camera.

My favorite Mr. Rogers is when he went to the set of the Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno 1980's "Incredible Hulk" show. He watched the set as they acted out a scene with a biplane which I've seen in the show. He interviewed Bixby and also Ferrigno while he was getting his Incredible Hulk makeup applied. It's like: Here's how they create make believe on TV. Disclaimer: I was, and remain a fan of the 1980's "The Incredible Hulk". Also: The same guy who played Lurch on the original Addams Family (black and white) narrated the intro to that Hulk show.

I grew up watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood on PBS & I absolutely loved it . . . this trailer brings back my childhood . . . and the message that he had of loving those around you, making them your neighbor, was needed then & it's still needed now . . . even more so!!
And I remember him talking about various topics that are tough topics, but as a kid, I didn't realize they were tough topics . . . they were just lessons I learned from his show. There were so many good quotes just from this trailer alone:
"Singular vision of kindness & love"
"Love is at the root of everything. All learning, all relationships. Love or the lack of it." (#TruthBomb #MindBlown 😨❤)
"(It's) An invitation for somebody to be close to you"
"The greatest thing we can do is to help somebody know that they're loved and that they are capable of loving" (Yes, yes 💯% YAAASSSS)
ALL of these are beautiful on SO MANY levels & made me tear up & this was just the trailer . . . I'm probably going to have to bring my own box of Kleenex to the movie itself because I'm pretty sure I'm going to ball my eyes out . . . but I probably won't care because something tells me that this movie will be beautiful & my life will be better for having watched it!!! Plus, it will allow my inner documentary loving soul geek out over one of my childhood icons!!! 😍😢😍😭😍
A lot of these quotes remind me of the quote from Cinderella (the recent live one): Have Courage & Be Kind . . . and sometimes it takes courage to be kind; but Mr. Rogers definitely had both.
Yes, I definitely agree, this movie & it's message are COMPLETELY needed right now and it DEFINITELY needs to air nation wide, not just at select theaters!! But yeah, this is definitely added to my summer must watch movie list. "Relive Your Childhood Summer Party"

It was a Senate hearing because Nixon cut the budget for public television. Mr Rogers was appealing to Senator Pastore who was known for being hard and a tough nut to crack. Fred Rogers managed to give him goosebumps and he gave him the money back on the spot. I read that a few years later they increased the funding even more. It is an amazing video. Goes to show when someone really, truly does care they can win over even the toughest audience.

You know what the real CMOA was about that? PBS's budget from Congress was supposed to be 9 million, they were planning on cutting that... Think about that, Mr. Rogers didn't just secure the budget that they were supposed to get, he got someone who had no idea what Mr. Rogers Neighborhood was to double their budget.

I'm one of Fred Rogers' biggest fans, and I have been for years. Something you two might or might not know about him is the fact that he was actually uncomfortable being famous. That was NOT what he was in the industry for. He saw himself as a communicator and teacher. Also, since the trailer clearly shows him barechested, I hope people will finally come to realize that those tattoo rumors are completely false.

    • @LinerHouse

I think you should watch episodes of 'Mister Rogers' Neighborhood'. If you do, you'll probably notice that he sang "It's a beautiful day in THIS neighborhood" EVERY single time. Contrary to what a lot of people remember, he NEVER sang "THE neighborhood'.

When I was a very little girl before I was even old enough to go to school, I watched Mister Rogers Neighborhood all the time. I loved watching him on TV, even though I found him to be just a tiny bit creepy. Oh come on! I was little! But as I got older, I started to appreciate him more. When he died, I cried for hours upon hours. Then I began watching reruns of his show when I was 8 years old, 9 years old, and 10 years old. Then I got mad at him. I was so angry at him throughout all these years because he died of stomach cancer. I thought that the dude would live forever, but nooooooo, he had to die. I am not mad at him anymore. I am just mad at the stupid evil stomach cancer that killed him.

Thank you for telling me that. He would understand that I used to be mad at him and he would talk to me about it and sing to me about it. And I would give the guy a hug. I am so grateful about the things that he taught me when I used to watch him on TV. When I was 10 years old, I was watching him on the kitchen TV and Mommy was cooking dinner. Mister Rogers talked about when your parents decide you're too big and too old for the diaper. Then Mommy said, "that's right, Mister Rogers."
