    Tested the Thruxton R this weekend and I was VERY impressed. Good job Triumph, beautiful to look at and manymodern technical touches without loosing the retro look. This one is an instant classic.

    Great coverage on this video and I have added this to my motorcycle collection. I luv this bike and took for a 200 mile plus ride and was amazed with power and handling. Attention to detail and loads of customization to make it your own Thruxton R

    I could not make up my mind which I liked more so I bought a T120 and Thruxton R. Even now some years later I still love them both equally so I could not bear to part with any.

    I love the look of this bike but all reviews I have seen to date focus on the looks a little too much. I need to know how it behaves (especially if I am not). With the short wheelbase and 83 ftlbs does the front wheel get light? Is the throttle response smooth and predictable? How stable is it in the twisties? How would it compare to the speed triple? What about maintenance?

  • @theflintstones9764
    @theflintstones9764 Před 6 lety

    I have one with all the fancy stuff on, but you didn't mention you need to be under five foot ten to enjoy the bike. I'm six foot 1 and a bit and feel it's too small. The power band is between 2500 to about 7000 rpm making lots of gear changes when ridden hard. I still get it down to the edges of the tyre walls. lovely looking and sounds great with the Vance and Hine exhausts . Faster than the earlier Thruxtons but slower than my old Blackbird.

    The ORIGINAL T100, was Meriden's 500cc twin.
    Hinckley's T100, marked 100 years of Triumph.
    Meriden's Bonneville was MODEL#120. That meant the ORIGINAL 1959 BONNEVILLE was GUARANTEED to go 120.

    Nice review. Focusing on the bike not the rider. Thanks for the useful on screen specs too. Think I will go for a British Thruxton instead of the heavier R nine T racer

    • @johnDukemaster
      @johnDukemaster Před 7 lety

      More or less same weight on those two. But the BMW has got more power....tough one!

    • @marcotenthousand
      @marcotenthousand Před rokem

      @@johnDukemaster do you think the R nine T has significantly more power, or is the difference negligible?

    • @johnDukemaster
      @johnDukemaster Před rokem +1

      @@marcotenthousand Well, I haven't tried the British Thruxton. Numbers doesn't always tell the whole truth. But I know for a fact that the BMW engine is stronger than most people need. It eally depends on how it performs and deliver. Try them both!

    • @marcotenthousand
      @marcotenthousand Před rokem

      @@johnDukemaster I rode a R9T Pure, then a R9T Scrambler which were rated at 109 HP. Kind of love the sideways twist of the boxer engine and the quick response of the drive shaft. Was supposed to ride a Thruxton R today but it snowed here in Denver. Maybe tomorrow.

    • @johnDukemaster
      @johnDukemaster Před rokem +2

      @@marcotenthousand It's a lovely engine! I had a Pure a couple of years ago. Stood between the Speed Twin and NineT Pure. Took the Pure for its well performing engine and dealer network here in Denmark.
      But if the Triumph dealer had been closer then I really can't tell the outcome!
      I would say, no matter what ends up in your garage, you'll be happy!

    • @JonQuirkUK
      @JonQuirkUK Před 8 lety +1

      Riding position is more 'attack mode' than the R nineT certainly, and the angle of the seat does force you to 'adjust' every now and then. That said, if you're easily blinged into submission with high spec components and finishes, then I think the Thruxton R may just have it. You won't go wrong either way!

    • @trentonsmith7385
      @trentonsmith7385 Před 8 lety

      Eh depends on what you call long, I usually can do a full tank (~150) but then it just is painful. I have done several 300 mile days, and that seem to me like the limit for distance. The other big limitation is lack of setup for luggage. Weekend bike, sure, week+ long trips, not so much. Plus the tires go pretty fast.

    I test rode the thruxton R, and whilst it is undoubtedly visual bike porn of the highest order it kind of left me feeling flat. It steers heavy, and the seat is an instrument of torture, cuts lines in your butt cheeks seriously. Whoever invented that needs pegging by an enraged feminist.
    Other than that it's great, oh and it's too slow.
