Tempo is too fast. The drummer should have pulled everyone back and sat in the pocket. I have performed that song a thousand times easily and as a drummer you have "groove" this song. There is way too much nuance in the drumline of this song to push it like this. And no, you do not need a click track to keep time, and yes, the guitar did come in hot. But that is what a drummer is for, time keeping and he should have pulled back over a couple of bars to slow the groove. It's not a bad rendition at all, but youth and adrenaline pushed it just a bit.
Great job explaining! I felt the same way. For whatever reason a lot of live songs get played at a faster tempo. Maybe it’s the excitement maybe it’s the drugs I mean adrenaline that gets the band charged into overdrive. Now I understand what playing in the pocket really means!
