    My RES slider laid an egg in January. She out now cause she was crazy in the water. And on and off her basking ledge. Will be making the nesting area you showed. Thank you. She's 25 and never saw her eggs until 2 years ago.

    Sadly, I lost one of my female RES turtles last night from her being gravid, I had no idea female turtles could be full of eggs, even if they are unfertilized. I will try this with my other female RES, I hope this works. Thanks for posting this video

    Thank you so much for the video, our red eared just layed an egg for the first time in her life, she laid it in the water I assume because we found it at the bottom while cleaning the tank. We will definitely be doing this for our Shelly and our babies closet is perfect to do this in since no one goes in her room while she's awake so she'll have plenty of privacy. We can tell she has more now that we've done our research, and your method looks to be the best solution! Thanks again!!

    some people find that it is easier to let them lay the eggs outside: there are too many risks involved for us to recommend it. The turtle escaping/disappearing is our biggest concern and the most common problem, but there is also chemicals, bacteria and diseases that all can get your turtle(s) sick. If you find that it is working for you, then keep doing it, it is better they lay there eggs outside, than in the water or become egg bound.

    Hi CJ.... I’m a teacher who unknowingly rescued a female 9 years ago from a student who couldn’t keep her. She is a wonderful class pet who I enjoy taking home every break. Two mornings ago I woke up to find an egg in the tank and a very tired turtle. My husband and I had thought she was a boy all of this time. She is now in the nesting bed you taught us to make, and has been off and on since I found the egg. She has not layed any more eggs than the one I found in the tank. Her shell is only about 6.5 inches long. I’m just wondering how long we wait and do the nesting thing before we worry about heath issues, or if it’s safe to bet she is finished for now. Thanks so much!

She also does not eat all the time. I made the nesting box but she just kept wanting to climb out of it. I can feel that she has eggs but I do not know why she wont lay them. Do female red eared turtle ever stop producing eggs? Like when they're old (I read somewhere that they're pretty much like chickens, producing eggs through out the years.) 2. How long does it take for the turtle to finish egg laying processe?3. How often do they need to lay eggs in a year? Thank you or anybody here who could help me answering these so so much. Im new on this. Just Trying to keep my turtles healthy and happy.

      most are done in 2 hours or less.

    Very helpful! Two Questions for you:
    1. How did you know when to do this? Wondering if it was done around a certain time of the month, or if you simply would check her belly to feel if it was the necessary time for her to lay her eggs
    2. Were these all unfertilized eggs I'm assuming? Wondering if this is just her laying her eggs because her body needed to do so, or if she is laying fertile eggs because she mated with a male turtle
    Thank you for your help!

      1 . My female wanted to get out of her tank so i made one after seeing the symptoms.. And their egg laying starts after 2 years of age. So it's after 2 years we should be prepared to make a nesting box.
      2.female turtles will produce eggs even if there is no male turtle. Just that the eggs won't be fertile.

    our res is nealy 5 and to my knowledge has never laid eggs. she lives in the same tank with a male, and except for an occasional squabble, they get along. i can tell he get aggressive trying to mate with her sometimes when she doesn't want to and we separate them. we tried something like this a year ago but she never laid eggs. I feel like she would have had multiple opportunities to have been pregnant now and I'm concerned reading some of these comments. What could we look for to know if she retained the eggs? would it be obvious? And as far as it being potentially deadly, if nothing has happened by now is it fair to say she is okay? I'm going to try this method with this soil recommended see what happens. she is getting antsy again and trying to dig again. She also appears to be breathing more heavily.

    Can you make a video on how to breed them

    • @TurtleWisdomRES
      @TurtleWisdomRES  Před 9 lety +1

      No, breeders are causing countries to ban turtles all together and capture and destroy them, there is not a single acceptable reason to breed them.

    • @TurtleWisdomRES

      we do not give out any information on breeding as RES are invasive and over populated thanks to the breeding markets.

    Hey CJ, I built the exact nesting box you have in this video but my RES turtle does not want to be in there, she keeps trying to escape and seems stressed. Is there a different way to build a nesting box? My parents house is a rental so they do not want the turtle digging in the yard. Thank you in advance.

      make sure to place it in a dark quiet area, like a closet or space room, no one uses.

      I’ve tried that as well but she keeps trying to escape, she hates being in there. She likes going outside though.. I take her outside for 2-3 hours each day now whenever I can and she tries to dig but nothing happens. She keeps walking around everywhere and it’s getting risky since I live in an apartment. It’s a very busy area... any advice?

    We are sorry Victoria we do no recommend breeding Red Eared Sliders as they are overpopulated and invasive, thus we do not provide any information on how to incubate or hatch eggs. We recommend eggs be removed and properly disposed of.

    • @vardanrathi7777
      @vardanrathi7777 Před 3 lety

      Pretty sure "marry" isn't the exact thing you are asking. For what you are actually asking (Lol), after the age of 2.5 to 3. But no guarantee. Matrimonial bond is very sacred 😂

    well i put in some females in my tank that formerly had only males in it.
    How long after they have sex should i start pulling my females to see if they are going to lay eggs? is there a critical time frame or can they hold onto thier eggs for awhile?

    My turtles won't eat at all. The female is almost disgusted by the food when it's feeding time and the male just seems to not eat because she isn't eating. I'm so scared I think it's because she needs to nest but I'm not sure. Help
