Bisping went from the most hated UFC fighter at UFC 100 to the most beloved, underdog champion by UFC 199
Also helped that Bisping did mature and mellowed out towards his last few fights in his career
The issue is nobody understood Bisping until he wont the title and then it was revealed just how bad his eye was. Then Bisping made the comment about his biggest losses being to dirty fighters like Dan Hendersen and TRTor and people starting saying, he's right! Bisping earned his respect and people saw more of his behinds the scenes banter. Bisping wasn't a shit talker to be an ass like McGregor, he knew the line, and he talked trash to sell tickets because as he said he needed to make every fight the biggest fight ever to get a shot. Bisping is really the people's champ when its all said and done.

I've been a diehard Bisping fan ever since he was on TUF. The only time I rooted against him (and it was hard) was when he fought Chael because I wanted to see Chael rematch Anderson.

Febrina Windasari I think Chael is saying that Bisping was always SKILLED ENOUGH to beat his opponent. Of course every fighters has a puncher’s chance of winning, but outside of that, their style often just won’t allow them to beat their opponent whereas this was never the case for Bisping

@@EagluTV Yes, Bisping was very "beatable", but not "outclassable". To beat him, you would need to either land that one shot that sends everyone to lala-land or you would be in a hard and competitive long fight, but you couldn't dismantle him over several rounds and make him look like he didn't belong.
I used to hate MB soooo much. Now, after him growing up and me learning more about him, I really respect and like the guy a lot.

I always thought he was a journey man fighter that acted as a gate keeper for title contenders. The truth is he was one of the few guys not juicing when there was no testing. I'm glad he made his money and got out when he did, the punishment his body took over his career is crazy and he has no regrets.

Bisping’s story is easily one of the greatest in the sport. He is my favorite commentator as well along with Rogan. The man is a legend.

Yeah but it’s the fact Michael never used that as an excuse. When he lost he didn’t say “oh I’ve got one good eye” he took the lost in stride and continued. That’s what made him a great fighter

“ in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king”. That being said... the UFC is not the land of the blind. No one notices how hard it is to fight with one eye.... but watch them all jump around and scream to the referee when they get poked. Bisping was always 1 poke away from being totally blind. Nuff said.

the thing about eye poking in the ufc is that the gloves are cheap and they naturally make your fingers stretch forward. Which is why its a ramphant issue of eye poking in ufc fights... and of course those who do it intentionally anyway.

One thing Chael forgot to add, is that Bisping also chose to defend his belt against Hendo, the man who gave him his worst loss. Bisping may speak like a drunken redcoat, but the man is fearless.

Lol, he intentionally dodged 4-5 fighters for approximatley 2 years in the division, was TKO'D from that Anderson knee, and was just very fucking lucky that Luke Rockhold didnt take him seriously at all. He loses to Luke and everyone else in the top five 9 times out of 10. Even that 2nd fight against Henderson (a #13th ranked opponent at the time) should've been a draw AT THE VERY LEAST.

From New Zealand here.... Watched Bisping in the early 2010's ultimate fighter. Americans hated him then because of that British type humor that they dont understand, I loved Bisping first time i seen him on T.V he is so funny and entertaining NZ and British humor very similar. Americans take them selves too serious and Bisping would always take the piss out of them. Seeing him win the title plus now is a great commentator, well done sir !! Americans finally now understand him and think hes funny but took a while for the majority to feel this way. Bisping was one of the first heels in MMA

Bisping is the one and only true BMF. Fought killers and won a belt with one eye. Literally had to change his style to the point where he had to reach out and touch his opponent before a strike so he could correct his depth perception. Unreal.

Bisping put the sport on the map for most people here in the UK. Conor took it to the next level worldwide but Bisping did a lot for the sport. I am very grateful to him. It baffles me how people don't respect the guy. He literally gave an eye for the sport!! Yes, he was cocky but he sold fights to put food on the table for his family. If people can't understand that, then that's on them. Bisping is a legend. That word gets thrown around far too much these days, but it's fitting for him.

Bisping’s a proper man. Chael said it right. There’s a lot more skilled guys around and less tough guys. And Mike’s a legitimate tough guy. One eye and never popped and fought the best when they were juicing. Michael never says anything for the sake of saying anything. I reckon if you asked him to throw down at any time he would because he’s a true tough guy. He doesn’t need to think about it his natural instinct is to fight. He doesn’t need to tell himself to be tough.

Bisping had to do everything the hard way, he’s one of the best to ever do it when you look at the whole package.... the key force in growing the ufc in the uk, people wanted to watch him whether they loved him or wanted to see him lose, talked smack and hyped fights but always backed it up and gave everything, oh and he was a world champ who never tested dirty too

Almost all of Bisping's losses are to drug cheats (Chael included, and that was a close fight).
The other losses he endured when he was fighting with one eye.
Both of his last two fights were with great fighters and, in both instances, the left-hook (ie the punch that Bisping could not see) was fundamental in those two losses.
If the UFC was entirely clear of PEDs during Bisping's career, he might not have lost a single fight.
Dirty fighters ruined the careers of the likes of Bisping, Cormier, and the Diaz brothers.

He was the nearly man for so long, every time he got close he lost, hendo, vitor and rockhold. But took a flying knee from silva unseen because of the mouthpiece and came back to win the next round, stopping rockhold was his defining moment and was one of my best ufc memories ever. The pure emotion from Mike when he knew he was champ👌
Sonnen is bang on the money. Bisping is the epitome of an “Ultimate Fighter” he went the hard road, lost an eye while doing it & could entertain and sell fights to boot. A promoters dream. World Champion aswell.
