- As a former Rebel 500 owner, I was intrigued to learn that Honda had released a 'Bagger' Version of their popular, DCT equipped 1100 Rebel. It is fitted with a version of the Africa Twin engine putting out a very respectable (for a cruiser) 86Hp.With the DCT transmission, that made it a very attractive proposition for me as I'm approaching retirement. I had already taken out the naked version, but that testride was short and plagued with technical issues. Now, I have a decision to make as I am rapidly approaching retirement and in need of a bike that fits me in addition to getting my juices flowing. Could the 1100 Rebel be the answer with its smooth torquey engine and clutchless transmission? Well, it could but there is a competitor which ticks the emotional box big style. And, what ARE my thoughts on those Side Cases? Watch the video to find out!

Just traded my 21 Harley Road Glide for a Rebel 1100 DCT (not the touring). FYI I loved the road glide but hated the batwine/Street Glide...so I'll never have the T model as I hate that style windscreen. Before my Road Glide I had a VROD so I have no problems with wind. I rode it 1200 miles from Texas to California no problem. But for about 800 miles I have on the Rebel now, I love it. Don't know whey, but I just love riding this bike. It is a blast to ride. The DCT is fabulous. I do with I had 5gallons rather than 3.6gallon tank - but just means I'll have to stop sooner for breaks when I'm on a trip. But overall, I love the Rebel and definitely recomment

Sold my HD Road King and bought an 1100t last year. Really fun bike to ride. No regrets. Tank range is around 240+ km which is a good distance for me to take breaks.
Is great no matter whqt anybody say, i sold my harley fat boy an dot my self a dtc1100 and boy am happy and it is so good.
Did youe bike had a kow oil light?
Having had some experience of Triumphs I would say the Bobber isn't really competition for the Rebel it's not really geared up for touring and the tank range is pretty poor on it. I would say that a closer competitor would be the Speedmaster which can accomodate decent panniers and has a better tank range. I know it has forward controls which can be an issue for shorter riders but Triumph do have a mid peg kit that puts the pegs in the same place as the bobber. I believe you can also get a decent sized touring windscreen for it.

@@CornishMotorcycleDiaries Well worth a go I'd say my Son's partner has one that she's away touring Ireland on atm and she highly recommends the comfort seat option.
I nust got mine past the break in period, no issues just goes and is very, stable in the city slow traffic. I have a bigger wind screan and is juat great at high speed.
I like my 2007 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100.haven’t experienced the new model.
Was surprised Honda did not up the tank capacity with the T version - would lean more to _Touring_ although with my bladder tank range would probably not be an issue :)
Me Too. I would have liked to have had the bike for longer to test out, the tank range. I prefer the naked version and would put soft bags on myself.

Tank range isn't a big issue (60mpg on our recent tour), I have just come back from a tour of Scotland on my 1100T, replaced the pillion seat with a small rack, then fitted a 20litre kreiga bag I already had. That and the panniers provide plenty of space for a tour. I did have a spin on the Speedmaster, nice bike but 30kgs heavier than the 1100T (really noticeable when moving it around my drive), spoke wheels (another faff). Add to this, I have had the Triumph reliability curse put on me, I have had 3 Triumphs and not one has been reliable in any shape or form. I know not everyone has the issues I had with mine, but once bitten, twice shy. Or in my case, thrice bitten. Hence, I bought the Honda, which was nearly 3 grand less than the Speedmaster. I guess only time will tell, If I have made the right decision, but up to now I am sure I have.
