    I appreciate your binding tips I love how it looks but have struggled for a long time with machine binding. I don’t want to take the time to sew the binding on by hand. Donna Jordan does an amazing job on hers but I think that’s because she has had so much practice. Yours turned out so cute and looks amazing 🤩 ❤

    I'm confused April, four different people told me I can't use steam when I use my new wool mat. They said my mat will smell like wet wool. PU.
    I won't put water in my Iron, when I'm pressing my quilting block's.
    Let me know if you would, if the wool mat will really stink if I use steam.
    I'm catching up on all you videos. They are so fun, & funny too.
    You just crack me up. I love you wonderful personality.
    I love your babies. Oliver, Peanut, & your sweet dog's.
    I just stuffed six little Dove chocolates in my mouth during this whole video.
    I'm all hopped up on chocolate now.
    Oh well that just means I'll have plenty of energy to sew, sew, sew.

      I don't use steam ... but I think it will the first couple times using steam make and odd smell... but it is supposed to perform better with steam....
      Hope this answers your question

    I hope to some day be better than I am. My entire family just about has a quilt made by me. I caN see that I do better but not as much as I thought I should be. I've been trying to quilt now for 6months now.

    I'm absolutely terrible at binding...😞 I guess I need more practice. 🤔🤔🤔 I watch Donna Jordan from Jordan Fabrics and she makes it look so easy, but I still can't quite get the hang of it. Thank you for sharing. 😊🍁🍃🍂🍊

    Elmer's glue as long as it is acid free and washable you can use it as basting instead of using pins or clips.

    Donna from Jordan Fabrics Slays me, haha! She makes Everything looks so easy but when i tried one of her "beginner quilts" i was sooo messed up.. i ended up putting it in a tote to work on once i got some more experience. But i guess that's what you get from making 4 +/- a month ( i heard her say for sure in one of her videos but i can't remember for sure now) for the store and her videos. for how many years now??? so practice really does make perfect. i can't even make one in a month. haha.

    Here's a tip. If you don't have fusible fleece, take leftover double-sided fusible web pieces, and use them in different areas of the placemats. That way if you have a limited amount of time to sew, you can always come back to them later and they'll still be ok. I'm an assembly line sewer. I'll cut out all of the fabric and batting. Then later fuse all of them. Then later come back and quilt them. Then bind them all. And eventually they'll all be done.

      @aprilscraftroom  Před 2 lety +1

      OH NO! I have done that on a backing - ugh. I love the pocket method too. I think I've figured out how to make it look like there is binding on the front, but use the pocket method. I haven't tested it for real yet. LOL. Thank you for watching and sharing.

      @@aprilscraftroom I think you are doing just fine. I enjoy watching you try to calculate in your head how much fabric you will need. Quilting is the only thing you do that I am interested in. • @ellenhofer3343
    @ellenhofer3343 Před 2 lety +3

    Actually, you aren't supposed to use steam on a wool mat. It can get moldy inside.

    When I add binding to a quilt, I sew it to the front and flip it to the back and sew in the ditch.

    • @aprilscraftroom
      @aprilscraftroom  Před 3 lety +1

      Good tip - I struggle with either way - I haven't mastered binding yet. The thing is I love the look of binding. I will try that technique next time. :-)

      I've been trying to stitch in the ditch forever. I even bought the foot for my machines. No luck. Sometimes I've used a wide blanket stitch & sometimes a very long & narrow serpentine stitch.
      I love this solution!

  • @jenicehaneline1846
    @jenicehaneline1846 Před 3 lety +3

    I cut mine 2 1/4", sew it on the back and what goes to the front is smaller and most of the time the stitching follows the back binding.

    I always sew my binding to the top first. Then I turn it to the back and blind stitch it by hand using matching thread and a hand needle. I have never been able to get it to come out perfect using a sewing machine (as Donna Jorden does in their video).

    • @aprilscraftroom
      @aprilscraftroom  Před 2 lety

      Ha ha. Don’t assume mine are perfect. 😉. I am still working on getting my binding to the point of being acceptable. Tracy at Austin’s here in Louisville shared her secret 🤫 invisible thread. It works. There is a more professional name for the thread but you can’t see it. I will do a tutorial. It won’t be perfect but you will get the idea.
