  • Noom is a weight loss program/app that states they are "the last weight loss program you will ever need" and they even claim to be anti-diet. But is this true or is Noom just another diet that only leads to short term success?

    Thank you for doing this review. I tried Noom for a few months and I felt the entire time like it was like being on a diet. I ate an avocado one day and it said I am eating too much fat. It wasn't at all. I also didn't like getting on the scale everyday because I found my self obsessing over it and having thoughts like skipping meals and then being angry the entire time it was not good. Also they make you read articles that sometimes had ok info but sometimes it was straight garbage. My coach was also not a dietitian lol reminds me a bit of beachbody in that way.

    Thank you for doing this review. I love your thoughtfulness and wisdom and you said enough to help me know that I can make other choices for working with my healthy lifestyle. I will return to a self guided anti-inflamatory food plan that has worked for me in the past and get more coaching on the psychological barriers I currently face instead of focusing on the calorie counting and exercise focus only. I will blend several of these but am reminded that I already have a good plan from the past recommended my my physician and not just try the new fad on the block that looks sexy!

    Weighing myself daily has kept me accountable and has only
    Helped me. Weight does not flex more then a pound or two a day no matter what your doing.
    If I don’t then it’s easy to completely get off track and gain a ton of weight quickly.

    I love Noom! I put in a goal weight of something that I actually want to/and believe I can reach and maintain. A healthy weight for me.
    The calorie budget increases with activity, and mine does not start at 1200. On average I eat about 1600-1800 calories a day on my Noom diet.
    I’m eating healthier foods and making healthier choices than I think I ever have in my life because of the red green and yellow system.
    I don’t believe your review is fair since you didn’t even try the actual program

    I did noom for a few months and lost about 25lbs on top of the 10 i had “on my own.” I’ve gained 15 back but it’s because my body in particular gains weight when I’m stressed (last 6 months: promotion, strong cat 4 hurricane, out of work for a month bc of said hurricane, toxic workplace, leaving said toxic workplace and starting school). I liked noom when I first did it, and it did help me change some of my habits (I definitely watch my portion sizes except when I’m stressed and don’t wanna think about it, I let myself leave food on the plate) but 100% trying to go back to counting calories and red vs green foods would trigger some of my old disordered eating habits.
    I’m trying to lose the 15lbs I’ve regained bc my body seemed happy (and I was too!) at 165, and through my little rabbit hole digging I came across your tiktoks and YT channel. It was really nice to hear your perspective and I can’t wait to learn more from you! ❤️

Align with your points such as no weighing, no calorie tracking and no goal weight. Now Noom just seems what I’ve tried before in my 50 years of weight ups and downs. Cheers from Aus. 🇦🇺

      I'm currently doing another weight loss program which, in general, is about sensible eating and exercise. It has you track your food intake and exercise on a point system. My only problem with it is, when I downloaded a calorie counting app to compare the points to calories, it was a bit shocking. If you're not educated about nutrition, calories and macronutrients, you could really undereat on that program. Not good at all.

  • @MonicaIbarraFitnessMakeUpLife

    Did you take any of their lessons?… I think you don’t have the whole picture of the program.. when people really want to make changes they need some accountability.. weighting your self and logging your food make sense for people with lack oof motivation.. we need a daily reminder of what.. and why we are doing it.. the first 5 lessons explain exactly the reason why they are doing it .. and talk exactly about what you are criticizing. I’m sure this app isn’t for everyone… but you are giving wrong information..

      I think it is more appropriate to say that if you have a history of eating disorders, this is not the right app...based on this video. Daily weighing is absolutely destructive if you have a history of eating disorders since it triggers previously conditioned inappropriate responses to weigh-ins. But I agree about how her not using the app makes this review misleading...I think it would be more helpful if she had someone on who was using the app and then giving commentary.

      It also suggests that if you gorge yourself on calorie dense foods one day, you should probably skip weighing yourself for a few days so that you don't harm your perception of your achievements and lose morale.

  • @InKY09
    @InKY09 Před rokem +2

    I feel it was unfair of you repeatedly judge the 125 pound goal, when that was the lowest option of the 40ish pound range Noom offered you. I doubted the fairness of the rest of your review because that part was so exaggerated.

  • @lnsflare1
    @lnsflare1 Před rokem +1

    For what it's worth, I'm 5'6ish and set my goal to 125 lbs (which was about my weight in college, when I was a lot fitter than now, though 150 would be sufficient), and it put my caloric budget is around 1500 per day (maybe they set different counters for guys and girls?), with an expectation to hit my goal around the end of February, and tracking my meals and calories has helped me curb my constant snacking by gorging on less calorie dense foods that also fill you up a lot (like fruits, veggies, and water), since it's entire premise is that one loses weight by intaking less calories than you use without needing to go on any specific fad diet (though its articles go into detail about eating healthy and things like how/why whole grain bread is healthier than white bread, drive it's slower to turn into sugar).
    Also, I always figured that it added calories to your budget if you exercise in order to build up your muscles (which will help burn more calories even when you aren't doing anything) and keep you from blacking out, since I'm always famished after I exercise.

But that too is 20 bucks a month after the two month free trial ! I'm 79 so my body can't be at Nooms goal weight or I would look awful !! I found u in the nick of time bc I almost hit the button ! The other thing once u take the test and put in ur email I get sooooo many emails from them taunting me to rethink my decision and lowering the fee ! I can't stand that :) all diets work if u follow them and stick to a good healthy calorie count even on ur own without a crutch! Lol Have u reviewed WW ! I'm new so I don't know ;) Thanks Barb

    Noom actually has lessons when you're a few weeks into the programme where it teaches you about set points and asks you to reconsider your initial goal weight that you set for yourself in a more realistic way. I feel like you haven't really gotten an accurate picture of the programme since you didn't try it out for long enough.

      Noom is a weight loss app, not a fitness app. For you, measuring muscle mass vs body fat and body measurements are MUCH better. For me, I do want to lose weight which will come from both musclr and fat, and I am fine with that so noom is a good option.

    Well I saw a registered nutritionnist a few years ago and have eating disorder and I think that because I already have bases covered with my nutritionnist, it makes me see Noom in a different way. The color system is a crazy trigger for so many people so I would advice it for people who can understand that not judging food, not restricting food, not learning properly about satiety and hunger, hormones and nutritive aspect. Weighing everyday is also ok if you can see it as a game or experimentation. Weight goes like a seesaw and goes up and down and up and up and down and up and down and down.. Y'all get it lol! I recommand everyone to reach for a nutritionnist or a dietetician before going on Noom. Because they will teach things and you will understood Noom better. Because if you use Noom without knowing yourself.. without know important basics.. you might just enter a spiraling unhealthy diet!
    (Btw I stopped tracking calories when I had my eating disorder diagnosis and saw my nutritionnist. I listen to my hunger and satiety. I do not have cravings, I can eat whatever I want. I have snacks if I am hungry. People think that if you can eat with no limits of the food you are supposed to ditch, you will eat them and become 500lb overnight. Truth is.. it doesn't happen 😂 I love Oreos but I don't even look at them at the store, if I one day want to eat them, I will buy them! That's all. I eat less Oreos now that I allow myself to eat them because they are now a bit boring.. not "special treat".
    Also, for the color system.. try to use it for the variety of food, not to judge food. All food in orange or yellow are good food! And it's ok to eat more orange one day.. It's ok to track just once now and then! Don't become sick with any program. It is a tool to help you, not a God or a Guru. Don't see the program as a sect or an answer to everything. See a dietetician or nutritionnist. My best advice.
    From someone who WAS on a diet all my life and now PLAYS with Noom!

    I am at the program and they say it should work for every diet, but it doesn't. I am on a lower carb vegan diet and my goal was to push it to more whole food vegan diet and less processed food and of course loosing weight further (I am obese, so this is a valid goal). I had a good nutritionist before and it worked with her - I wanted to break through my bad habits. Low carb doesn't work at all with that app (but I lost 14 pounds before with my nutritionist and want to stick to that). With that app I am at a lot of green and a lot of red because you can't insert recipes (mine contains a lot if greens but also almonds and healthy fat). They even put some tempeh or tofu on the red scale only because they vary slightly frim brand to brand (smoked tofu, plain tofu without anything added). But a vegan burger from Mc Donalds is yellow and fries are just as orange as a hand full of plain nuts or fresh olives, or Avocado but a high processed weat bread was in green because it had no fat added. It is a pain in the ass to track it and I will switch to Yasio again soon. It at least give me the amount of refined sugar I ate (and try to put low). The next issue I struggle with - it is not suitable for introverts. Every goal and very privat result of one lecture is encouraged to be put it on this group. Some drives very deep and it is nearly impossible for me to post this private stuff. My next issue is, I ended the payment because I payed in advance for half a year and the coaches seem to ghost me since then even if I payed for that and want to continue it till the end but I am not convinced to pay another 120 Euro for that. I am really troubled with the extroverted group stuff - feels like a small facebook group where everyone is permanently happy and everything works so well at the first try. It is really discouraging and I feel pretty bad using this app. Never had that with all the tracking apps I tried. 😔

    Yeah it's very clear this is not an informed review. Noom has entire sections on how to recognise your body's hunger and satiety cues. It starts you off with weigh-ins and tracking to help retrain your habits and encourage mindful eating. But there's SO much focus on building you towards being able to eat intuitively, once you've fixed your baseline understanding of what a normal amount of food is.
