Tucktec Folding Kayak: Nine Month Update & Review & New Gear

- Let's review the Tucktec folding kayak and show you a seat improvement for it. It's a warm January day on the East Coast and I take my Tucktec folding kayak out for a rare winter kayaking session. In this video I'll show you how I've improved my Tucktec kayak seat by using the GCI Outdoor SitBacker Adjustable Canoe Seat. This seat can be attached using the same straps and velcro that come with the Tucktec. I found it worked well to attach it right on top of the existing Tucktec seat. I also review a kayak tether I got to keep my paddle safely attached. I'll talk about my personal experience with owning a Tuckteck folding kayak and give you my review. I'll also show you the beautiful scenery of the bay and marsh at Delaware Seashore State park where I launch from the Savage's Ditch kayak launch.

Looks like great fun! I was bad about not having a paddle tether. In fact I kayaked for years without having one. 😅 Know what you mean about the nice scenery as you mentioned right before entering the bay. Nothing like absorbing all that in on a nice day. Kayak looked like it tracked well and maintained decent speed even though I noticed some current. Never been by the Delaware Seafront before, I think I'll take a flight over that area in flight sim later on and post a video of it, looks really pretty!
Yes, the tether is just going to give me piece of mind when I stop take photos. Yes, this folding kayak tracks well. It has limits - like you do not want to go out on the bay when things are really choppy. For most of what I do, it has worked really great on lakes, rivers and the bay in mild conditions. A buddy I work with has one of those kayaks and love it, thanks for the video I’ve really been on the fence on either buying a kayak or a bike and I can’t make up my mind what I want, after seeing this you kinda swayed me towards a kayak. Great video !
I can totally picture you kayaking when you visit all those beautiful state parks. Just be sure to buy the launch permit. The PA state parks require it for launching in the parks but it's very inexpensive. You'll have to ask your friend if they have found the seat to be unsupportive. I think they have improved it on newer models on this kayak. For me, this portable seat backer thing really made a difference in back support.

The seat looks like a great addition to the kayak. The tether is a great idea to have in that because you certainly don't want to have to tip it to get your paddle back!

I was researching the fold up before I bought the sea eagle. I wasn't sure about the durability in rapids. Also, I think the price is a little high. Thanks It is great for my compact though. Could work.
Yes, it really wouldn't be good for rapids or situations where there are waves because the sides are a bit on the lower side. We had the Intex challenger inflatables before getting these. We had problems with tracking straight and getting the water all dried out from our inflatables. I just looked up the Sea Eagle and it looks like a very nice inflatable.
I haven’t tried mine yet since I’m waiting for the college semester to end but I can imagine during slightly windy days some water could seep in through the top corners unless there are some plugs available to plug it
Do you mean where the folds are in the front and the back? If so, the way they fold has no gaps so water can't come in there. The only spot where water could really get in would be if you had waves - and it overcame on the sides. I do sometimes use mine in the bay, but I am just very careful about wind and waves. I will only use it in the bay when conditions are calm. Hope you enjoy your new kayak. The first few times you fold it will seem difficult, but then it becomes so easy, and you will be able to fold it fast.
@@hikingoutdoorfamily I tried it out for the first time and it actually does a good job at keeping water out. However, there is a inwards bulge on the right side next to the seat even though the structural integrity is stable although I’m worried it wouldn’t maneuver as well
@@namesomega3694 Hmm, is the bulge where the side folds are? I would say to reach out to Tucktec. They are very responsive about questions and issues.

@@namesomega3694 Right, if it is pulling the sides like that then it could deform the kayak over time or weaken it. I would see what customer service says and then maybe just double check you have your seat attached the correct way.

Winter has been crazy this year, for how long the manufacturer guarantees this kayak?
They have a 3 year warranty, even on the refurbished models. That gave me some peace of mind when buying the refurbished ones.
