There's a reason we all love Joe. It's because he is awesome. He works so hard, he is humble and seems like a genuine guy. This many people can't be wrong Joe. You rock. You must be excited to see the 401 getting slowly finished. And man you would have to be proud of the role you've played in that.
yes Joe is a diamond,he slogs away doing a lot of dirty jobs and is always there.....
Plus every time I see joe he’s stripping. Lol.
Bwahahaha,
Love you Joe but the stripping comment takes the cake
10000% agree!
I agree
"Closer to getting finished" I don't think so. This will surely be a good part of my summer viewing.
Man I really hope Joe is aboard the maiden flight of the Phoenix. It’s so nice to see his great attitude even when the 401 wants to beat you guys. I know there’s a whole team that’s working on her but this project would not be the same without him.
Guys! Thanks for inviting us in on this adventure. Its unique. For Joe - dude! I'm not kidding - you're such a nice guy and you are a natural at what you do here. Just keep being you- its great to be allowed to tag along on what has become your adventure here just as much as anyone else's. It wouldn't be remotely the same without you!
As a former aircraft mechanic in the 70's that worked on Nam era F-4s in the Marine Corps, I can truly appreciate the hard work you guys are doing. I look forward to the day you call out, wheels up!
Thank you Bobby for being apart of the Rescue Crew, and thank you for your service!
Hey Marine, what Squadron where you with? I served with VMFA-451 and VMFA-115 85-89 on F-18s.
@@dennisyounkin644 I served with 212 from 75 to 77, and 451 in late 77 until my EAS in May of 78. All with F4s.
@@BobbyG1955 I was a structural technician in the IAF, worked in our Maintenance Squadron in the Phantom B-Check hanger. We had the F-4E and some odd one off RF's.
When you mechanics used to strip out screws, cross thread anchor nuts and break stuff, we would be called over to "save the day" !!
So wished I lived closer... As a helicopter mechanic in 1988 I was introduced to my first "Glass Bead" machine... and instantly Fell in love with them... I have two now... but sadly they are not currently set up...
With this said... that Vapor Hone machine is an absolute beast!!!
I literally would volunteer to sit there day in, and day out doing all of your vapor honing, (For Free)...
One of the coolest things I've seen to date!!!
Keep up the great work guys... absolutely love what you're doing!!!
I LOVE THE SMELL OF STRIPPED PAINT IN THE MORNING
Don’t know what you’d do without Joe - extraordinary work ethic even on the crappy jobs.
Joe has been a perfect add to the team and a great friend to us all here at Rebuild Rescue…
joe is a legend, he lives and breaths it lol 🙂
Where’s the other Joe?
@@rebuildrescue but where is the other Joe? :)
the project would have been in dire straits without joe, would also like to know what happened to the skinny joe
A big man, a huge asset, all stuffed in a smaller body = Joe! His meticulous workmanship is beyond reproach; I don't know how he does it day after day! You are blessed to have him on your team.
Honestly he’s such a sweet soul
Truly "The man, the myth, the legend!"😅
Dear Jason,
You and your team are rebuilding this Cessna 401 like it original was made but in the meantime I know for sure this plane will get a fully updated Instrument Panel but this have to wait till most of the other things are ready. For sure you’ll manage to get her in the air again as a comfortable airplane. Wish you lots of success with the rest of the refit and send you love from the Netherlands
Guys, I think that I've been watching from the beginning, but I have not made any comments. I would like to say that I think that this is wonderful. I have always loved aviation and I always wanted to learn how to fly. But I think that has gone by the way at this point in my life. I do however enjoy seeing a beautiful aircraft come back to life again. It appears to me that you are all the most amazing people. Although I have never met any of you I feel like you are all my friends. I watch you work so hard on this project and give your talents to this plane. You are all very talented and I love watching things get done. As for Joe I really like him. He is delightful to watch use his skill to make this plane be reborn. I don't think that I am able to express my delight watching you all work on the 401 as well as I'd like. Thank you so very much for sharing this great project with all of us. I hope that I can see the final reveal when you get this finished! I must say that I am very excited to see this plane fly again. So, stay safe and have fun! I will be watching .
The 401 is coming along. Hard to believe it is the same plane you fought to get started. Keep up the great work all, and Thank you joe for all you have put into the 401!
Joe just seems to be the guy everybody wold call their best friend. Humble, workaholic who's doing all the impossible things, and i'm sure he would go a lot of extra miles for his friends. He lifts the show to another level. Awesome guy.
Joe's the man. If he can't do it, nobody can. Love your videos.
Paint stripping hack: put thin plastic sheet like visqueen on top of your stripper and let it cook. The absence of air will supercharge your stripper and it will go down through all the layers of paint, straight to bare metal in one application. Plus the stripped paint pulls off with the plastic.
I can already imagine the Phoenix flying. Joe is the most hardworking and inspiring person out there, period. Keep up the Great work guys, love ya and have an Amazing weekend everyone! 🙌🏼❤🔥
Couldn't agree more! Thank you for stopping by Stoyan, it's good to see you !
@@notfiveo Some componants will receive a non distructive inspection, when performing periodic maintenance. There are several types of non distructive inspections, some use a magneting flux with a green flourecant die, some use X-ray as your friend said.
On military planes, the landing gear struts get pulled off, stripped down, and tested for small cracks. Flat parts, such as the skin can get X-rayed. Expensive jet engine componants often get mag-fluxed.
as a european, when i hear the phrase "the backbone of america" someone like joe pops into mind. dude is an old school hero. plain and simple. huge respect.
Watching you and Joe's meticulous attention to detail (MATD) reminds me of a TV commercial I saw many years ago. A master craftsman and his apprentice were making musical instruments, and the apprentice wanted to know why they were doing so much extra work:
Apprentice: "Master, why do we work so hard on things no one can see? If we didn't do this, who would know?"
Craftsman: "We would know!"
Gentlemen, you are master craftsmen!
There is also another reason to go the extra mile. They will be as much as a couple of miles high in this thing, and by going the extra mile, it helps keep it from going oops and falling those couple of miles.
In rebuilding something like this, you really can't go too far or be too careful.
Joe is one of the most respectful, friendly, and hardworking people I know
Have loved following this journey all the way from Down Under 🇦🇺. Special love to Joe who's such an awesome worker and asset to the team. Now get on and finish this sucker! 👊🏻👍🏻🤘🏻
Hi Jason. Love your videos. I am a Noise Control Engineer with 35+ years of experience working in one of the best acoustic facilities in the country. I have worked on aerospace, automotive, industrial, and consumer product applications for noise control. The stuff that was on the fuselage for vibration is really pretty effective for air induced vibration on the skins. The insulation used in aircraft is typically from Johns Manville or UPF and is a very small fiber diameter to provide a maximum reduction in sound at a lightweight. Unfortunately, at those fiber diameters, the thermal performance is bad. The aviation manufacturers try to compromise between comfort thermally and acoustically. Since it is easier to heat the cabin at the altitudes the plane flies at, sound reduction gets the focus. Use of foam that you mentioned would be good for vibration reduction, but it is not great at sound reduction. Unless you use a melamine foam, which is pretty brittle, urethane foams tend to dry out and turn to dust after a few years. Don't believe all the marketing crap around foams. They have their place, like in generator enclosures and engine compartments, but they are some of the worst acoustic absorbers/barrier materials. If you want some tips on improving things, I am available to help out.
Joe seems like an awesome guy, an eye for detail and the will to do tedious work. Out of the hundreds of people I've worked with in industrial settings, I can count on one hand how many had his positive attitude regardless of the job.
There is nothing more valuable than having a hard worker on your team. Anyone that has lead a team into a battle or into a situation like hell, will take a hard worker over anyone else.
Take a breather... Take a rest. A good piece of work, all of you!! Those wing tip tanks! A lot of work there Joe.
😜Great Job Joe you are the backbone of the rebuild!! The 401 would not be as far along as it is without you!!😄🤪
Joe ROCKS... and is an integral team member of this 401 Rebuild! Kudos Sir on a job well done! Thanks , Mike...
Love your attention to detail, Jason. I think even more significant than the airplane you are restoring are the people you are building up and strengthening through your positive energy and leadership. Great job!
Great work everybody joe your a bloody legend mate
Love to see more videos on 401. I like Joe's hardworking and diligence. He's always giving a plus.
Wow, you guy are hitting it. Joe, as usual, is the master at cleaning and prepping - Nice going Joe!
You guys have come such a long way since you first dislodged the birds, the mice and whatever who had made their home in the 401 😊
From out of the ashes this is so veey interesting to watch Joe just hits it and kicks it no matter the level or skill he's there👍💪you all do a STELLAR job
Joe is the A's to the team. Would love to find a man like him to work for me. Great job Joe and team
The 'Entire' Rebuild rescue crew are amazing Great work!! however Joe is always worth a special mention, his amazing attitude steadfast tenacity and the amount of work he does is incredible! Very Well Done!! Please get him to put his own name on the aircraft proudly! 😃
Amazing, keep up the great work!
Joe gives off the vibe of that cool guy you always want to work with. Just friendly and always helpful. So happy all these blessings are coming to him he deserves every single one.
Joe you are the man ! Top work and top class work ethic ! 🇿🇦
Joe is an absolute Hero for all he is giving to the 401, as are all the crew bringing this old lady back to life and back doing what she was built to do.
Joe seems like such an awesome guy and he does great work and he works so hard. He deserves all the great comments that he gets on here. Keep up the great work Joe and keep up the great work rebuild rescue. Love seeing the 401 come together!
Joe's just a good, honest, hardworking guy. People recognise that, it's why he's liked so much.
Been watching from Thailand since the beginning, and it's fun to see it turning into an aircraft again.
As a former crew chief (herc healer) in the 70s (A,E and D (ski equipped) model C-130, Joe reminds me of those guys I worked with and always admired. Tough, dedicated and reliable...take care of yourself Joe the world needs more guys like you!
I love you guys. It is so neat to be apart of this journey rebuilding the 401. She is going to be an awesome bird. Joe is so cool! He works so hard & gets things done. We love him. It was good to see Sam stop by & hang out with you guys. Very excited to see the 401 coming back together & all the extra time & effort too make her better then brand new! Amazing!
Joe is such a trooper! Well done all of you for getting this far! It may seem like you've still got a million steps to go but just remember, when you do it right first time like you guys are, that's just one less thing you have to do. Every step ticked off is another step towards the finish line!
Joe’s hard work and dedication is great to witness. Enjoy this “Flying Hay Bailer” every step of the way.
This is going to be THE BEST cessna 401 on the planet once the team's done. 👍
The dedication to fix this airplane proves that it was never about revenue, it was about the friends made along the way
You are all incredible!!! You for rescuing the airplane, Joe for being a workhorse troughtout the journey. He is so nice to watch, when he explains he stuff he works on and doing everything so calm and peacefully. All the love from Slovenia, Europe. Maybe in 2024 you could come to Airpower airshow in Austria and show off your plane? This rebuild rescue is a beautifull adventure that I love to watch
the 401 build is a favorite for sure been following since the first episode of the 401 joe is an amazing hard working guy cant wait to see the 401 finished love the builds always wanted to get my a&p and my private pilots license you guys at rebuild rescue have made me realize that i can go for it and achieve it! cant wait for the 401 finished and joe when you see this comment i just want you to know that you and the whole team are an inspiration of many of us watching the videos keep that positive energy and that big smile showing!
I’m pretty sure they are called “static wicks” not “static whips.”
Thanks for taking us along on your journey with the Phoenix and all of your projects. Love seeing the dynamics between all of you. A bunch of good friends resurrecting an old plane and bringing it back better than it’s prime. Keep it up.
I don't remember seeing those during disassembly. Is an STC required to add them to the airframe?
Your attention to detail is outstanding! Joe and you, Jason, are really working hard to make this the best 401 in the world! It's so exciting to be a part of this! God bless you and the entire team.
Can't really say any more about Joe then what the previous comments have said, they say it all, he has really become the core of the 401 rebuild team, rock on Joe
Wow! You guys must be half way there. I am so shocked. From like a year ago when he was struggling to start the engines.
and now ? Joe is the lead mechanic on the crew (in my opinion). Seriously nice guy.
What a team effort! Hang in there brothers.
So impressive. Makes me feel good about the human condition.
You are right, Joe is a national treasure to all of us who watch each week. I hope he gets his new teeth soon. Great work on the 401 as someday we will watch it "slip the surely bonds of earth."
Love watching the plane come together- watching Joe work, it's amazing how much he gets done! Watching Sam being the straw boss was a great film moment as well. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see your faces when she flies!!
So much hard work. The parts of the plane you have cleaned up look very good. This is a very interesting process to watch. Thanks for sticking with it. Hope you all can protect yourselves from the chemicals, coatings, paints and solvents.
I have to say there is something I really like about Joe, He comes in, does what needs doing, minal fuss, enjoys it, goes with the flow, Ideal man for the jobs he does.
Top Man
His attention to detail is awesome. He should be the Passenger on the 401 when she’s done.
*Cessna has entered the chat....* *"had we done what"* 👀
This hands down is the best channel on CZcams. Ya’ll have something really special going on - thank you for all the hard work and amazing content.
Guys like Joe are a rare breed. He is a big part of the recipe of why your channel is so special.
From southern outario Canada thank you Joe for all your handwork we could never be restoring 401 phoenix with out you...
If the world had many more people with Joe's attitude and work ethic, it would be a far far better place. Thanks for being awesome Joe!
I never understood or appreciated the true meaning of beyond economical repair before watching this series. However this is a passion project where ROI was never a factor and I am enjoying the journey. Keep up the work and I look forward to seeing it to completion with you.
Unbelievable the work you Guy’s do, especially Joe, hard working Individual who takes pride in His work and craftmenhip
Joe is a true craftsman in my opinion. I’ve worked with some really dedicated and smart mechanics in my day, and Joe is right up there top-notch. You’re lucky to have him. I love watching this video. Keep up the good work and can’t wait to see the finished product. Thanks.
what an amazing ride for us watching you and the team bring an "unwanted 401" back to life -all the best

Thank you Brother!
Hello from Welsh Wales, I must endorse your comments as regards Joe!
He has the best of qualities and I’ve thought that so often.
I so look forward to the videos, they are the most interesting on the whole of You Tube!

Hello from Romania, thank you Joe and all team doing a hard work for 401,
Hello Florin! Thank you for watching!
There's just something satisfying about stripping something down, completely cleaning it up and bringing it back to life
I love that Joe just came in and has been turned into a regular. Love seeing what he is able to get done and the bright look he brings to his work.
Love the Dedication of the whole crew and the tedious, painstaking, hard work that is going into the401.. You all are an inspiration.. And yes, Joe is absolutely a rare find. Not only a hard worker, but seems to have a Great Attitude and someone that you would like to hang with... Jason, you all hang in there!! Y'all will be so proud of her when she's all finished and Completely Restored.. Glad you rescued her and glad to be a part of it.
This is gonna be the best 401 in existence when you're done! Amazing work!
Hi guys, the 401 is coming along very nicely. I enjoy every episode and love watching the hard work and attention to details being done over every square inch of this airplane. It's obvious you all love doing what you're doing. Especially Joe, whose sheet metal stripping, cleaning, prepping and painting skills are superior! I'd enjoy working alongside you guys (and drinking the coffee)! Cheers from way down in New Zealand, David
Really like joe!!! Joe is the man!!! Some say he’s actually a machine but for all I know is he’s joe the builder!!❤
I watched the video of you guys taking the wings off of the 401,, I do not envy you reassembling it,, All I can say is take your time,,, measure twice,, cut once,,, etc,,, Your 401 will be the envy of every one when it is done,, I think I was probably a pilot in a previous life,, because I really enjoy all of your videos,,, 🤠
I must say when I started watching this project I had my doubted how far it would go. I am happy to say that you are all doing amazing work. Keep on pushing forward and as far as time it takes what it takes Full support.
Jason, it's looking great. And Joe is doing amazing work. All of you are. He looks like he's having a blast at what he's doing, but I'm sure that's the result of strategic editing. Working on airplanes isn't always fun. A lot of it is, but definitely not all of it. And it certainly isn't glamorous. I figured that out 35 years ago, when I started my aviation maintenance career in the Air Force.
People who don't work on airplanes don't realize what goes into doing this work. Getting packed into tight spaces where you can't be comfortable and do what needs done, working with caustic materials because that's what gets the aluminum prepped correctly. Getting your hands pinched/scratched/ cut because the place you have to get them into isn't big enough to get your hands, and the hardware, AND the tools in there all at the same time. Going home with your body screaming at you for working 10 hours hunched over, in the cockpit, between the rudder pedals, behind the instrument panel.
Glad to see you guys getting stuff coated in primer. There is no substitute for doing it right, even when the OEM didn't. Of course, back then corrosion wasn't taking a front row seat the way it is now. Don't get in a rush. As one of the guys I work with has said, "no airplane left our shop that wasn't ready". That can't be said of a lot of shops, sadly.
It's clear that quality is coming before cost for you. Too many people think that buying an airplane is the biggest expense in the process. Those same people have absolutely no clue what it takes to own an airplane. If you do it right, you will spend many times more money just keeping it in airworthy condition than you ever spent buying the thing. Which is why we see so many owner/operators looking for shortcuts and "cheaper" parts, thinking they are saving money. Little do they know how much more that "cheaper" part is going to be when they have to replace it again, because it wasn't made to specifications or, worse, the airplane falls out of the sky because that "cheaper" part failed.
By and large, what you've been doing is fantastic. The old wings could have been removed in a way that didn't call for cutting the holes in the skins, and I've brought that up when that operation happened, but, in the end, it's your airplane. You already had another plan in place, and I'm guessing that you have no intention of having the old wings repaired, then selling them to help offset costs, and that's up to you.
Just a small correction though, when the airplane gets painted, you WILL be doing another balance check of all of the flight controls. Balancing with just primer on there would only be necessary if you are going to fly the airplane to another facility to have it painted, which I believe is your plan. You might not be the one's balancing the flight control surfaces again, but someone will be, if they're a certified facility. Once again, the plane is looking amazing.
I very much agree with all that you have to say Michael.
I do have one request if I may. Please, for the sake of my old eyes, add a bit of white space into your comments.
Your comments are very valued, but hard to read. So please for us old folks, break it up a bit.
@@oldfarthacks Hope that helps. Thank you for the suggestion.
I follow this amazing restoration work you guys are doing since the first video. It feels like I'm a part of it and can't wait to see it finished. Great job! As I pilot, it's an amazing feelling to see an airplane ressurection coming back from death. You guys got all my respect. Well done!

Keep up the good work Joe! Good luck to all the amazing team for the 401, hope we see it painted soon.
Add my kudos to Joe. The Phoenix would never fly without his hard work.
When this project Phoenix was at the end of tear down, i really wondered if it was getting finished or scrapped. Now with Joe, Jason and the rest of the team as well as the companies chipping in. I see it getting done in style and with perfection. Love this series.
Jason, you guys are very lucky to have someone like Joe on the team. He is a workhorse and appears to be loving every second of his work.
We all want to see her fly, for sure, but even if it takes months, I would imagine most of us will still be with you. It is fascinating to watch.

That's what we're aiming for Tony, thank you for believing in the 401 with us!
Hello, from over the pond in sunny Uk. What you are doing, just for others is a fantastic sense of achievement. All the hours you are putting into the Phoenix will be so worth while. I am hooked on every video to see how much you have done.
