We bought the cheapest airplane on the internet and now we meet up with Shaggy and Greg to see everything wrong with it. In the first episode we got it to start, but is it air worthy? We want to take this airplane up in the air, but we have to make it perfect before we do! Did we get a good deal on this little Kitfox 1 or should we of passed on this buy?

If you are interested in wooden Props or the making of a wooden Prop, Xyla Foxlin did a piece about It on her channel a while back.
Almost always. It’s cheap for a reason.
The company I work for, could help make you a new battery box. The company is Northern Acrylics based out of Minnesota.
Personally I think you're better off going for the 4-stroke swap.
Whoawaitwhut? Log books AND receipts??? It's like your birthday and Christmas all rolled into one!
Man let me tell you. Your attitude of wanting to restore old things to their former glory really got me encouraged. I might be getting a 14 foot Glastron boat for free. It was stored inside. If the hull isn't cracked and the floor seems alright, I am going to see what it will take to get it running again.
hey, you can perform miracles with fiberglass matting and a lot of sanding.
It's not "it's former glory". It's a super early 80s build and he's putting in some kind of new v-twin that will make it a custom rather than a heritage Kitfox Mk1.
The best TOY'S ? ? Airplane ; Boats !!! My things
Jason, come on. The 'issues' with this aircraft are very minor for the average 'experimental' ultralight owner. Quite frankly anyone who buys an aircraft like this and gives it to a qualified mechanic to do the work is crazy and just looking to have their pockets emptied. A mechanically competent owner would have it sorted in a couple of week-ends for not a lot of money. 2-strokes do NOT 'wear themselves out'. The Rotax recommended TBO is 300 hours. In fact you run them 'on condition'. Many such engines used for training go to 500-600 hours. It's horses for courses. You really need to talk to the right people for each type of aircraft.
They don’t wanna die and I wouldn’t either better safe then sorry
I absolutely agree. That Rotax is fine
It may be possible in America that you can work on an airplane yourself without any papers, but fortunately that is not the case in every country, here in the Netherlands you are not allowed to put a wrench on your airplane without any training.
You are fooling yourself son. If you intentions are to flip the airplane and make a buck all the add on's are going to put you in the hole. Fix what absolutely needs to be fixed and have fun with it. You can at least recoup your investment and make a few bucks if you decide to resell it, provided you don't go crazy.
A parachute might be a really good option...
If the engine quit, I'd take my chances with landing the plane off airport over pulling the chute.
It's Jason.
"Pull the red handle"
"Why"
"I found out it's an experimental, so I've fitted ejector seats!"
For the entire aircraft preferably!
For the entire aircraft preferably!
@@mikeschillinger4427 Hmmm, that's a parachute, as the man said.
That cheap Kitfox came with a DIC head? They can be hard to deal with...lol Someone had to say it.
Thank you for posting this and actually saving the plane! We live in a throw it away society. You took an old plane and are giving it a new life. Pretty freaking awesome!!!
He IS throwing the engine away....
@@troywalker8078 and rightly so.
@@troywalker8078 Probably doesn't want to die when the old one fails at 1200 feet.
Aircraft are surprisingly not very often thrown away. Probably because they are so godamn expensive.
@@moehoward01 do you think it can get that high?
That fuel line looks more like it came from the previous owner's aquarium.
Morning! 1:17 I think it's going to be cheaper since it's an experimental aircraft. Therefore, you have more flexibility replacing parts in comparison to a certified aircraft. I'm far from being an expert, but I guess the total might be somewhere around 15 to 20k-ish. Can't wait to watch the episode till the end and find out! Have a great weekend everyone! 🙌🏼✨
Another project that takes away from the 401, yacht, sports car...
Hmmmm I wonder what joe and the 401 are up to today!?
No news on the 401? Will it ever fly again?
Go for it. Put the four stroke in it. Your already doing the parachute, so make it a really very nice Kit Fox.
We want to see more videos on the kit fox!!
I'm glad you finally got around to making a follow up video on this aircraft!
A boat is called a hole in the water that you pour money into. What is the equivalent to an airplane? Asking for a friend.😅😂27:13
Every time you say "Kit Fox", it almost sounds like "Shit Box". 😆
This overhaul should be fun. Expensive, yes, but easy and fun. Can’t wait to see this one in the air. 👍🏻👍🏻
I think it is well worth it to do it correctly as you described. Can't wait to see it come together!
140 hrs ? Impressive! This plane should be in the Guinness Book of Most Deaths Avoided
How about a new T-shirt? "Friends don't let friends fly 2 strokes!"
OK, OK, Ok - My lovely wife is from Scotland. Scots aren't frugal - THEY ARE CHEAP!! She is always looking for "deals" - and some of those deals are crap - I call them "Chocolate Covered Turds" LOL, Jason, a bit of the Scotsman in you maybe??!! LOL 🤣🤣🤣
So nothing is happening with the 401? No Oshkosh videos?
Ever have an Open House for subscribers? I'll be in the area this October for vacation and would love to stop by to see the projects and say hello to the crew.
Put a three blade composite prop on it too.
Nope I wouldn't pay that much for a old kit airplane
Most times the cheapest ends up being the most expensive.
Very true.
Figured they would have had an idea of that with what it's costing them to rebuild a free plane.
Nice to see a project take shape!
Definitely needs a carbon fiber prop. All the horsepower. 😂
Ballistic chutes are heavy! Keep the airplane light for performance. 4 point harness. Should stall about 27 mph indicated.
it will be single place when they are done
The aeromarine installation looks like a nice option, BUT how heavy is the installation? You lose about 3 ft/min climb per pound. If I remember correctly, the gross weight on a model1 is 900 lbs. Check the weights of EVERYTHING you are thinking of changing. The airplane is a lot of fun to fly. Solo, mine would take off and land in less than 75 ft NORMAL LANDING on grass. Again think really hard about adding weight!
As to the rubbed off paint on the flaperon pushrod, this is likely due to not folding the wings back carefully! Or during transportation... not the flying configuration. The efficiency of the wood prop is terrible, go with the IVO, or similar ground adjustable.
Nice talkin your way into a new engine!!! 🤣😂😂🤣
I'm not a real fan of parachutes on a plane, and this plane would most likely glide very well !But hey that's me 76 yo
Without seeing the outcome I guess $10,000.I was wrong.
As ever, the projects don't get completed - they just multiply.
Me with this aircraft: change oil -> fly
Will be excited to see this build
That 2 stroke engine and gearbox looks sketchy. Get that 4 stroke replacement and carbon fiber prop. Paint it bright orange yellow.
Your resto mod project sounds great.
I like that little plane. Looks like it will be a blast to fly when you get that new engine installed.
Hi all at R&R... The 4 Stroke option covers two things.😉.. The comment about an 'LS' engine conversion is covered... the kit engine has LS 🤭 in the name and two, the request for a Harly engine... Well you have a V-twin right there. 😃 Can't wait to hear that rumbling into the air.. Keep well there you all.
Looks like a neat project! The Aeromarine engine option looks intriguing; I've not heard of that one before; how does it compare, weight-wise, w/ the Rotax 912UL (80HP) (probably, the Rotax would be much more expensive as well)? Too bad HKS gave up on the turbo "700T" (80HP, two-cylinder, FI, four-stroke, 720cc, IIRC); the "700E" was a nice little engine, but only 60HP and carbureted. I don't have lots of experience, but a KitFox would be on my shortlist of kit-planes to buy. You've probably seen the STOL Drag Race competition at Reno from this past week; some of those folks take "EXPERIMENTAL" to whole new levels (anything from modified C-180s to Steve Henry's 400HP Yamaha 998-powered "Yeehaw 8")!
😂Greg likes it.. although he won’t admit..👍 it’s gonna be like working on motorcycles; will be fun!
Experimental: Make it a manned RC plane! :) It's so tiny and cute. :D
Yes, let's make the prop out of titanium, that should be the cheapest way to go lol 😆
I wouldn't go with the model rockets thing for the parachute, since they require power to operate. If you want something "powered" use CO2 cylinders and a hand-operated mechanism to open them.
I fly a wooden prop in a Petenpol hand made by a buddy, flies fine.
Excited about the modern and more reliable (trustworthy) motor and gauges like-wise.
Too Mr Jason at Rebuild Rescue what happened to the 401 Project?? I' miss seeing you Work on 401 I'm so Excited 😊 about your 401 can you talk about more on 401 ?? Give us Updated
I see the bucket in the back it has a sign on it "Pour $$$$$ In". 🙂
Got bored waiting for someone to actually read out a list of faults.
You have to tidy the wiring and fix the interference issues, secure the fasteners, etc., no matter what you do to the power. So fix it and run it up, run around the airport in a tight pattern a few times. THEN do the engine and avionics. You'll have a comparison. If not that, get a local KF owner to let you fly their 2-stroke as a comparison to your upgraded one 🙃
Sell the Metal Parts to a Salvage Yard. The V Twin sounds good. The Bomb Panel with IPAD idea is good. Will you have A/C and New Radiator ? Fly On Brothers on a Wing !
Add some more for an improved landing gear and brakes.
I had a Pioneer Flightstar Ultralight in 2003 that had a Ballistic Recovery Parachute.
6/10 a better score than I would've thought.
Yeppers, just what you need. Another amazing plane. Way to go 🥰.
Just have fun and enjoy it
Dear jason and crew,
My name is Greg Simmons and im currently an explosives engineer and driller for a granite mine, i however also have AGE background and aviation refinishing. Just wanted to let you know i can really respect the fact that you guys do all this to give back to the community and help those who deserve it. Im not on here to panhandle from you or get a hand out of some kind. Im a stage 4 brain cancer survivor and i just wanted to thank all of you for what you do for people like me and so many others. SO THANK YOU, THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH 😁😁😁 !!!
Most dont know what its like to get a second chance at life and use it to help others, thats what this channel means to me, So why not do something cool with it.😎😎😎
I replaced the radiator on my powered parachute which has a Rotax 582 Blue Head with a aluminum radiator that I got off Ebay. Had it retro fitted with 1" hose nipples and custom mounting brackets. A $200 investment. it has served me well.
A tiny cheap plane that comes with a build in parachute? If only Trevor had knowen this, he might still have his licence xD
I say repair costs will be...$3000 $4000 $5000...I wasn't even close lol
It’s a liquid to air heat exchanger, Shirley? The liquid is taking the heat from the engine, into the radiator and the air is taking the heat from the radiator fins.
love this type of build go for it
“I want the Austin” How many restores have you guys got on the go !
Do did this one ever get finished? I cannot find any other videos of this experimental restoration.
Me too, did u find anything?
well is it reliable sure, thats why we include a parachute?
Love Saturday morning releases! Loving how much aviation has grown on this channel.
Glad you like them! Thank you for supporting❤️
@@rebuildrescueAre you be able to find another abandoned Cessna 340? Or Cessna 310? If so where did you look for this abandoned airplane? I am an aviation enthusiast and I am looking to start a Police Styled Recreational Aviation Unit within the next several years. Thank you so much for your response.
What is the 4-stroke replacement that is being discussed?
not enough power for this plane.
@@buckmurdock2500 I don't want it for this plane, so what it the engine?
I know you have a lot of projects going but do we have an update on this project? Also, you should do a giveaway for this!😉 I think this would be a fun first plane. Keep up the great work.
I would say too much for a plane that you probably won’t fly that much, but I’ve been there and done that.
Wood props are a gold standard for small aircraft.
Die Hard battery LMAO
Man, I envy you in the respect that you get to get into this stuff. I love my life, but I do want to add this hobby to it.
Has the parachute gone because it was used?? Looking at the landing gear I would fit one again. 😂😂
Rotax is one of the best manufacture of this kind of engines....
Has flown millions of hours.....whith tons of parts available, sercice centers, costumers service, manuals,.....service bolletins, etc etc......
This engines are relaible ...whith the right maintenance and operation .....
Experimental in many back garden builds means .....use what you can find, build it sell it and walk away.
This it was a great deal and even better that your gonna go with that new v twin engine…… love this and glad your going to upgrade it rather than fix the old engine up
That plane when finished with the new V twin would be a SMOKE'N deal for $24k I would totally love to buy one for that‼️Have fun my friend!
When you went through that catalog and read off the price of the carb and said it was from 1991. You realize that was 32 years ago. I was born in 1978. WTH man. Thanks Jason.
I think this one will be fun!
Can't imagine needing a parachute in a kitfox (well maybe this one) Unless you lose a wing or landing gear or the tail, you can pretty much land this thing anywhere, Find a football stadium and you are golden, hell you can probably land sideway in football stadium.
Kitfox brags on their website that no Kitfox has ever had a structural failure.
I would go with a new engine definitely. Then rewire It with new wire & hoses. It sure cute! Go through the plane top to bottom. Any new modifications. Make it your own super foxkit.
This was a great video. Best wishes!
I've flown with both composite and wooden props, no problem with either if properly installed.
"aight lets go fly it" at the end😂
I'm an A&P, id fly a wooden prop, but for the kit fox I think I would look into a carbon fiber prop, I've flown in a newer kit fox that had one and it performed amazingly
It will probably be cheaper to give it to Greg
Radiator, so, Raid ee aiter, still spelled Radiator in uk
Greg is the man
That's a great deal!, Now, will it fly next week? :D
Will Joe be able to handle working on a rescue that isn't knee deep in bird crap?
It will be great to install floats on it. Something different.
Radiator should sound like ray d a tor. Rad is an old 80s term for cool, and a unit of radiation absorbed dose, for beta particles.
That kit fox was a dream of mine when I was growing up. It was in the P.M. magazine all the time and you didn't have to be licensed.
It wont cost as much to get airworthy as Elvis' jet would!
Should be a fun plane to fly. I’d like to find one in project form, I kind of have the project disease though! lol
can't wait to see this re powered and modern panel should be a perfect little cruiser. I was up other day in a 421 Cessna was a blast.
Very interesting information, but I believe you will do that plane justice and it will make someone a very nice plane to enjoy some airtime without breaking the bank
I know planes pretty well. Spent a ton of time doing this stuff. At a glance, before seeing the review, I'll guess a solid $17.34 to get it running. Easy.
Great show Bro , , , ! ! ! Keep teaching you
Any updates on this project? I’m ready to see her fly
