- Well, DJI has released the newest Fly App Update, 1.12.6 and although it wasn't as huge as the previous 1.12.4 Fly App update, it was necessary. Know why? Because they optimized overall app quality! Congratulations DJI Mini 2 users!!! This one is for you!!!
How many of you guys out there are still flying the DJI Mini 2 drone? Do you feel like it's becoming a thing of the past with all these new drones coming out lately? I started to feel that way, too but hey, on this channel, the DJI Mini 2 will never die!!! This little drone has proven itself time and time again and has held its own against these newer and bigger drones offered by DJI and Autel. We are excited to see how long this wave lasts and as long as DJI dont' forget the Mini 2, neither will we. Oh, did I mention this is gonna be an urban setting fly app update test? Well, it is...

hahaha.. We'll never be able to forget Jack and Rose... They're the backbone of this channel. I honestly think if they ousted me, they could maintain the channel and probably lure even more unsuspecting people into their schemes, eh? Let's not give them any ideas. I'm glad they can't read...
Part of the reason why I got the mini 4 pro was how much you guys love Jack and Rose! Glad to see you do another update with them!
Lol I gotta say these mini drones are easy to appreciate, eh? I just hope DJI don’t release the mini 5 for a couple more years. New stuff attracts me and Kristi already said no. Hahaha

hahaha.. What's funny is even though I said, "The End" in the beginning, more people watched past the intro than normal.. weird, eh? I woke up this morning and found out this video is already outdated since the 1.12.8 update came out.. hahaha All of our stuff is charging at the moment...
These Updates are not for the Mini-2 ! This is to Update the App to accommodate the Mini-4 Pro ! Just my thoughts 😀

Awesome, Fred!! Thanks again for all your support and kind words, brother. Honestly, I've not seen any noticeable positive differences in the Mini 2 performance after these updates lately. Fortunately I've not seen any negative differences either... hahaha Last one I remember being viable for the Mini 2 was back when they added the shading part to the camera section for using the different format versions like 4:3 or the other ones I can't remember now... lol That's pretty cool to use to see the telemetry numbers a little easier but no we may not need that because the 1.12.8 Fly App is out and they added a large print option... I just saw that Fly App update this morning so now we have another update vdieo to do... lol It never stops!!!
I'm with you Kevin. I have the Mavic Air 2 and I also have not seen any positive DJI updates that make any significant improvement in performance. Keep flying and making your videos. @@WeretheRoberts

The compass on screen is your device’s compass. Mine is spot on because I set it up perfectly. I fly out 3km regularly so I need my devices compass spot on.
I watch your update videos waiting for one that actually improves the mini 2 I might consider it as I haven’t updated in a couple years I want to trust my mini 2 fully no glitches. 3km flights there can’t be glitches.
lol, my bet is you'll never see one of our update videos showing an improvement on the Mini 2. It's hard to improve on perfection, eh? You've always said why update if your current fly app works perfectly and I 100% agree... That's why we still have Jack on the 1.4.8 version. I am really not looking forward to that iPhone crapping out eventually cause losing that version will SUCK!!! I think it's really cool you guys up there can fly out so far legally... I'd do that in a heartbeat if I could. Canada rocks!!!

lol, thanks, Jerry... Every time I update the Fly App for Rose when there's nothing specific mentioned for the Mini 2 I get concerned it could be the update that grounds the Mini 2 for life... lol We've been fortunate not to have that happen (yet)...
I noticed your location had turned blue once she got further out. Generally it's going to be green when pointing directly at drone. You turned green when she got back. Wonder if maybe you weren't pointing directly at her, or the signal from inside vehicle was deflected...
lol You never know what I'm doing off camera, man... There's a really good chance it's user error but I was trying my best to aim directly toward the drone... It's weird that sometimes it's perfect and other times it's a mess... At least it's not that big of a deal since I wasn't out too far, eh?

Lol thanks for watching, buddy. We have another update video slotted for tomorrow. We just can’t keep up with the updates! Lol. We never figured out the root cause of that pixilation but I do know the Mini 4 pro hasn’t had that problem. We still get it on both of our Mini 2 drones but it’s not too big of a deal. I don’t think DJI cares enough to look into it. Lol

Oh heck yea... The Mini 2 is an awesome drone! If I can ask, where'd you get it from? I've not seen the Mini 2 for sale in too many places anymore since they released the Mini 2 se. The Mini 2 seems to be one of the most liked drones DJI has put out so my hope is they don't phase it out any time soon. We have a Mini 4 Pro that's pretty amazing but there's something about flying the Mini 2 that's a lot less stressful at times... lol Thanks so much for watching and commenting... @@WeretheRoberts hi Kevin! I bought it off eBay. The cheapest one available to buy in my country (UK) new is the mini 2 SE and I wanted some extra features, and a cheaper price too as it's my first drone and I didn't want to go too expensive incase I didn't enjoy the hobby. I managed to get the fly more combo, plus a hard case as well, and a tablet - the person I bought it off was having a clear out I think!
I really enjoy it so far, even though I've been doing some low distance flights from my back garden.

lol, it took some looking around but we found a great spot to fly this test. It was a Sunday... haha I couldn't believe how busy that area has become though around Costcos... We've not been there for a few months and it's almost doubled in development. I miss the days of wide open country..

Awesome, Jim! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, buddy. It's always cool to hear people enjoy what they've seen and it makes it even more fun to make these videos. We have a lot of fun doing this stuff so we really appreciate the support. Regarding the map, I usually use the map when I fly but sometimes I use the radar thing to hide my location from stalkers... hahahaha!!! Just kidding... We're in NE Florida in the Jacksonville area. Our plan is to travel a lot when I retire in October so we can do these tests all over the place. That'll be fun!!!

That compass indication is always off on my DJI drones also. Seems to me they are born in China and want to fly back.
hahaha!!! I bet you're re right about that than you think... I've heard, too the compass reading is based off the one in the phone so it could be off, too... BUT, I really don't know if that's true. I'm not sure if you recall, but a really long time ago, we deleted the phone's compass to test and see if it fixed the compass error readings and it seemed to fix it temporarily. Also, I've not reinstalled the compass in the phone since then so I'm not really sure the drone even really cares if the phone has a compass. Who knows?

Same to my Mini2 can't fly in long range. Is this the features of mini2 can't fly in a long distance?
Awesome question, brother.. The Mini 2 has a really long range but since we have to fly within the visual line of site, I usually limit the distance it can fly to 1200 or 1500 feet just to be within that requirement... I don't wanna get a call or knock from the FAA giving me a fine... lol
What in particular can you see improved on the Mini-2, Mr.Roberts ?
hahaha.. That's great questions, buddy... I started making a sarcastic comment a long time ago with these updates that when the DJI Fly App update notes read "optimized overall app quality" they were directing that to the Mini 2... I think I started saying that when the Mini 3 Pro first came out so the Mini 2 drones didn't feel left out.. lol It sort of stuck as a running joke so I seem to say it every time I see that part in the release notes.. To answer your question, normally I don't see anything improved on the Mini 2 with an update. Now the next 1.12.8 update could be a different story though with the large print option being available.. My old eyes will totally appreciate that... lol

I understand but I really didn't mean it in no bad way either , it's just that I am always wanting to see it done first by you Guys , so that I could get feedback cause the last time I did an Update , I had to spend some money on one of my Mini-2's cause it was constantly losing Signal and I Crashed , good thing that I have at least three Mini-2's to play with cause I would have been really mad ! Well I haven't Updated mine at the moment cause I really believe it has nothing to do with the Mini-2 ! There needs to be a more clear and Concise explanation from DJI , about these Updates , seriously !!!! Take Care Mr.Roberts 😉

Nice test, and glad it went well 😅 For some reason, I thought I'd seen you test it out, and I updated it myself the other day. Ever since it been either snowy, windy or rainy weather here in Denmark, so I haven't had a chance to test it out.
My compass is also very flimsy, so I never use that. I always use the map with satellite pictures, that makes me extra aware of hidden obstacles out of the camera view - for example when backing away from a subject toward myself.
hahaha.. Maybe I have a twin out there I'm not aware of? We were really late getting this update out but it seems like it was just in time for the next update (1.12.8) so perfect timing!! lol I agree with you about using the map when flying. I'd much rather see the home point and drone icons for the return to home flight... It's easy to get confused on orientation with that compass being off so bad, eh?
@@WeretheRoberts better late than never, and these updates comes really fast, when the app supports so many different drones and mobile phones 😅
In some ways I liked the DJI Fly app best, back when the map was available along with the compass at the same time 👍🏻
When I use Litchi, that's still the way it works 😎 However, I've gotten so much use to fly only with the map on in DJI Fly, that I forget to look at the compass in Litchi 😅

When was this update? Because I've updated mine about 5 day's ago...and only flown it once in about 2 months ago because of snow ❄️ that I filmed 🎥 and everything looked black and white ?and blurry
lol I'd say this is the same update you had about 5 days ago. I think it came out about 2 weeks ago but I'm not certain of the date. Snow needs to go away, man!!! I didn't have any problems with the recordings looking blurry so that's a head scratcher. Fortunately there's yet another update (1.12.8) that's out now.. hahahaha.. It never stops!!!
It's just probably because I haven't used my drone in a while. It's probably just something simple I need to fix..
Do these updates work for the DJI mavic mini
Awesome question, Steve.. Sorry for my late reply but we are camping this week and we were traveling yesterday.. lol These updates are for any drone that uses the Fly App so I'm sure the Mavic Mini would totally work with it. BUT, I didn't see any improvements or special features that came with it and the general listing of "optimized overall app quality" basically tells us they didn't really do anything except fix some bugs maybe.. My opinion is if your Mavic Mini works good on your current Fly App, don't update.. There's always a chance of the update screwing something up. Dude. I have the same problem with the compass where I know I'm pointing the controller right at the Drone but it's off to the right. I'm going to try to fire up the Drone I'm going to calibrate everything while having the radio pointed directly at the Drone, like 10 ft away from me or something.
Lol yea man I know what you mean. This compass calibration thing has plagued us ever since we got the first mini 2. It’s really not that big of a deal because when the map is up you can at least tell which way the drone is pointing in relation to the home point. I like the radar view better for some reason but I guess we’ve just learned to accept it at this point. Unless we’re making a video then I complain about it. Hahaha. If you can figure it out please keep us in the loop. I think your idea here may have some promise. Definitely a great idea. Thanks so much for watching and commenting by the way. God bless!!!
If you didn't sit inside your vehicle I suspect you wouldn't have a signal problem.
lol that's a good observation for sure... I do get this comment a lot and I do think it may have some merit sometimes... We have done a couple videos in the past testing whether it makes a difference in the signal and honestly we've never noticed any difference in signal strength. That's not to say it doesn't affect the signal, but in the locations we've tested it, it seemed like it was exactly the same. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting.. God bless!!! Kevin
I know you can talk to people when you're flying you're Mini 2 Drone. Have you tried flying to your neighbor's house and call him as he's stands outside his door as an experiment? 😅 with his approval of course..😅
lol that's a great idea.. Problem is we don't have neighbors... Maybe we could do it this week though cause we're camping and have a bunch of neighbors around here... hahaha
