This is my review and first impressions of the Pelican Catch 100 fishing kayak! This kayak is 10ft long and weighs 58lbs. I took the kayak out to a small lake to test it out with some winter bass fishing. I show features I like and features that I do not like about this kayak. Keep in mind that I am 6ft tall and 250lbs. My goal is to see if this is a good fishing kayak for larger people to use. if you enjoyed the video, leave a like and a comment for me! Pelican really make great kayaks. I’ve had my Pelican Strike 120 12ft 59lbs for the last 8 years and it’s wonderful, loved it so much bought a 10ft used. I wish they still made them but it looks like the Catch would be my upgrade when needed.
Excellent! I love the weight of that kayak! Gets the job done! 👊🏽
Thanks man! I think it is going to be a great kayak for me!
Great video. Park on the other side. Nice paved walkway and the dock makes it very easy to put in
So the road that leads down there was flooded and muddy from the construction. I didn’t want to risk it, but that side is way better
It's funny, I actually like your launch spot because I hate the drag up the hill after I'm tuckered out from fishing.
Great review! Thanks for telling about your body size. Im currently looking in to getting one of these. I am 5'11 and 256lbs. I have a Pelican Mustang 12 sit in and it does pretty well, but not very comfy as far as sitting and leg room with the closed "cockpit". With my body size, i have trust issues with standing on ANY kayak, i just like the open layout. Haha! Tight lines!
Liked and subscribed!
Just bought my girl one for 599 w a paddle and we hit a local floating area to break her in (shes 5'4"). The paddle holders were the only silly thing to both of us but ill add a side holder later. We floated 7 miles and even after dragging it over some rough terrain it held up good for the plastic used. My buddy had the 120 and For me being 6'5" im going to get the catch 120 i was able to stand in his and row and felt sketched trying it in her 10ft style. Either way it floats and takes a beating and she was able to keep a pole and catch a smallie or two! Float on brotha!
That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing!
I’ve got a great video on how to add a flush mount rod holder. Personally, for my smaller yak I went with the tamarack pro. Been curious about that catch 100. The bottom doesn’t look like it has a very wide gunnel, or spaced out W shape. Usually a tell of stability. Let’s go fishing sometime man 🤙
Heck yeah man! I’ll have to check out that video! So far she seems pretty stable. I had a tamarack for a while, I’d definitely consider the catch an upgrade. Mostly because of the seat
Nice video! I have only caught bass in the middle by the tree trunk in that lake. Let me know where you are fishing at next. I fish the same ponds and lakes you show.
You fishing Sunday?
Great video! I have a paddle kayak and fish with the paddle across my lap as well.
There’s always a fish on that tree out there! I’m not fishing Sunday. I actually work on the weekends and fish during the week usually.
Thank you! Seems like it’s better to keep the paddle there for quick access.
@thesouthwes when's your next video or fan fishing? It would be awesome to fish with you. Ever Bern to the pond off basswood or colleyville nature center?
I'm looking at this one too, car topping on my sadan.
Where did you buy it?
Got this one at Academy Sports
Great video. I wish I had a vehicle to carry a kayak because the creeks would be a lot more accessible. Let me know how you guys did out there today. I appreciate what you do.
Keith and I catch some fish yesterday! I’ll work on the video tomorrow!
5’10 and weighing at 245, I’m pretty interested in this kayak, don’t want to spend too much money on my first kayak.
I think it would be a good option for you!
Looks great man! Only thing I gotta recommend is a life jacket, even a good swimmer can get taken by surprise and things get scary quickly. Fishing alone you should always have one just to be safe. This 'yak looks similar to my Lifetime 10ft and has been so fun to get out on the water and leave the bank behind.
I need to get a kayaking life jacket so that I will wear it. I know they are called accidents for a reason! I guess i get confident in my good track record on the water, and my swimming ability. Definitely a good call!
I just picked up a catch 120 premium im 6'4 240 and gave tones of room and stand on it
Good to know! I had to go with a 10ft so I could fit it in the outdoor closet at my apartment
I appreciate you mentioning your size. That really helps with prospective. How are you still doing on this?
Still love it! I think it paddles well and I’ve got plenty of room
Nice 👍 I’m seriously considering this kayak. Found one on the Market place for $250 👀 lol
You posted this a year ago so maybe things changed. I literally just watched another review and it had 4 rod holders, weird. I would like to get the Catch Mode 110 but I may end up getting this one.
It looks like you have the pelican catch 100 classic I have the pelican catch 100 the difference is you can stand on mine and it has grip on your foot and it has 4 rod holders and the lake looks so familiar is that the one on Saginaw and also I just subbed thanks for the video
Yeah I looked for the catch 100 premium, but it seemed like they Dont make them anymore. Thank you for the support!
Wish I could find a Catch 120 in an actual store location. I think that they discontinued them. I'm looking for a new kayak for fishing. I'm 6'3 225 lbs, and I think the 100 might be too similar to my other cheap Pelicans.
How much weight after you and all your gear are loaded up would you say?
Probably 290lbs
Well maybe 280
What's it's max weight?
350lbs
Um, are you wearing a ppe?
Nope, but it was easily accessible and on the kayak
Neoprene waders and boots in cold or shitty weather
Rubber boots
Put the paddle under your legs
I think it’s possibly a Chinese knock off and I’m expecting one Thursday
You ordered a kayak?
@@thesouthwes catch 100 !
