George Michael absolutely nailed it here. The only one ever to come close to Freddie.
Yeah, I always wished he joined Queen after Freddie died, he would have been a worthy replacement.
Dan Goodbad I couldn't agree more.
Jason Allan Damn close yeah!!!
Actually, he did better, much better than Mercury.
George and Freddie can duet this in Heaven now
so sad at the news :'(
he just nailed it...sooo very sad....a fab singer!
Rip George Michael )-:
James Donnelly EXACTLY
2016 sucks again! :(
I love the smile on Brian May's face after George Michael got the enormous "Lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ove" from the crowd
+Roy Kliffen Brian was astounded that the audience hit the notes so well. In other videos you can see him turn to Roger and mouth "Did you hear that?". The other thing I noticed all through the show is how sad John looks. Another person wrote that they believed when Freddie died, a part of John Deacon died also. I would have to agree with that. It just wasn't fun anymore for him, and I understand why he chose not to be with Queen anymore.
+kutzbill Freddie had 4+ octaves and George has 4 -- a great match-up in terms of doing Queen's incredible music justice. George Michael is one of the best vocalists alive today (and perhaps who will ever live). I think this performance was a valentine to Freddie and to Queen. Amazing. I got chills!
+kutzbill I read that John broke down completely after the concert, because he realized that this has been it, this is the end. I think he already knew that he wouldn't participate in any kind of "Queen +..." after Freddie's death. Such a sweet and sensitive guy.
+Tassie G Totally agree!
+Roy Kliffen goeorge michael delivered well, nothing else to say....
RIP George Michael. This was my favourite performance of his live.
I came right to this vid to watch this classic again after hearing the sad news. The only person who could sing a Queen song better was Freddie himself.
not better than Freddie but as well. He surely was Freddie 's little brother.. . How I miss both of them today. RIP. :'-(
It was indeed. It was the Time when I hoped he would join Queen as their new Lead Vocalist.
Good point
George Michael forever. This was best ever live performance
He's no Freddie, but George KILLED IT! I was shocked how great this was. You can tell he was passionate about this phenomenal song.
I agree he nailed it! this is probably my fav queen song. god bless freddy, may he rest in peace.
Tw1stedMoogle This is why I thought the only one who could sing in Queen instead of Freddy...(even when no one will be like him)....was George Michael.
Diana Vizarreta The 2015 New Years concert with Adam Lambert was exceptional! Look it up if you haven't seen it.
I haven´t but I will. Thanks!
I didn´t know he was Adam Lambert...actually I don´t like the way he sing...Queen is too much for him.
Only George Michael could sing a Freddie Mercury song. TWO GREATS. Forever and then. My heart aches.
It is beautiful George Michael singing, without a doubt. But Adam Lambert is also a phenomenal singer and an amazing showman.
Please bring musicians like George and queen back to music!! 😢👏🏼
what a beautiful picture - thousands of people clapping, enjoying the moment and not holding the stupid phones.
Totally agree!
That's what I exactly miss with concerts from back then! Today ppl are recording the concerts, instead of enjoying it and be in the NOW! I remember that we had to lay our phones to the workers as we weren't aloud to take it with us to George Michael concert. I gotta admit I hid it in my pants as I didn't wanna stand in looong que to get it back, but I didn't use it, only for the cab when it was finish!
+Bojana Zec You're right about the phone, they prefer a show of picture instead of watching the man/woman/group.
me too i agree...
I know right? Welcome to the 90s
George Michael is the only person I can see who is worthy to be in Freddie's spot. I would have loved to see Queen+George Michael.
he was asked to take over when freddie died.
kenny moore
But only Bryan May wanted him! Not the other two!
You can see how much this song means to him!!!!!!!!!
It is beautiful George Michael singing, without a doubt. But Adam Lambert is also a phenomenal singer and an amazing showman.
Brian May asked him to step in and take Freddie's place as lead singer and George Michael's said he was humbled to even be considered for the job but declined as he felt he would never stand up to anywhere near as great as Freddie was. In my opinion he was the only one to come close to Freddie.. Both great singers and performers. They were in a class of their own..
RIP to a man who was physically gorgeous, and spiritually beautiful. Kind, caring and compassionate. RIP GM.
Hey,always got to have faith. :')
Say hi to Freddie for us, George.
Exhausted Elox
Freddie, Bowie & George !
Exhausted Elox I don't think he is watching bro
ramcurequeeny and david :(
I think the two are in the hell now 😭
Why? Look at what they contributed to the world.
SO many people and not a SINGLE cellphone in sight. Ah those were the days!
George Michael should have joined Queen, he had the voice and the looks and the taste. Brings tears to my eyes.
+ainhoa aparicio They asked him to join but he turned them down
If Freddy he would still be alive now, I know he would do a George Michael tribute concert.. Rest in peace, you two semi-gods...
Adrian Dinu those two and David bowie are rocking right now.
After Freddy, this is the best version period. Everyone else, is way down the list somewhere.
i think Adam Lambert's one is good enough, too (performed in X factor i remember)
I can't even believe you just said that.
Normally, I absolutely despise tribute remakes of songs by artists of Freddie Mercury's stature. You will never remake Freddie, Whitney, MJ or Aretha and do them any justice, and when most people try, it's just ear rape. But George Michael KILLED THIS!!! It's like he was channeling Freddie. He not only stayed true to Freddie's style, he showed true reverence for Freddie. This was GENIUS! I'm not even a George Michael fan, but nobody else could've carried this off, not this perfectly. Sublime!
Yes, agreed, and let's not forget nobody can cover George convincingly either
Ladies and Gentlemen a true singer is on the stage.
ladymay30 Not just a true singer, a true artist as well.
+Atheist Avenger Can I just add something... Kanye West, you have no right to sing a Queen song. Not necessarily this one, but if you can't sing, THEN DON'T!
It is beautiful George Michael singing, without a doubt. But Adam Lambert is also a phenomenal singer and an amazing showman.
George Michael was the best in this tribute for Frddie....
I can't believe. He die very young. We will miss you. Great singer. RIP George Michael.
Great audiences back in the day. People now can't resist recording with their phones.
Will always play in mind when I'm old and gray...beautiful moment.
What a flipping amazing performance..I can watch this 100 times
My favourite singer of all time. This is one of his best performances!!
Farewell my love. Have a ball up there. x
Pity you can't hear the crowd. We were all singing. It was pure magic. RIP.
Just watched the cover again with Adam Lambert and then of George MIchael. George Michael killed it.. No words. And George was even older. It's like comparing engines of a Ferrari to a Toyota.
George Michael's voice is timeless. Pure talent.
No one can replace Freddie really, but George Michael easily came the closest - His tuning is SPOT ON and he sings from the heart! Saddened to hear of his passing, RIP!
ARGENTINA CRY ..CRY. CRY A GEORGE AND FREDDY.....my God...two genius....
💙💙💙💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭
George Michael o Freddie?
Y qué más da? Eran la monda lironda.
George was a musical genius. He killed it. Wonderful performance in front of an awesome crowd. ❤️ May your soul Rest In Peace and Rise in Glory, Georgie.
May you sing together in heaven George And Freddie....
this performance stole the show, brilliant vocals from George Michael, well done sir!!!
George Michael.. the only person who could even come close to Freddie
He got Freddie Mercury energy there! Perfect!
To this day I'm amazed that this is a live performance, not an edited studio recording. Flawless vocals, that crunchy drum beat, the guitar solo..... so much perfection in every note and beat!
Best cover version of any Queen song. Ever.
It is beautiful George Michael singing, without a doubt. But Adam Lambert is also a phenomenal singer and an amazing showman.

He did a Good Job here.....Made me realize how BIG FREDDY realy was.... No one ever touched Mercury....NEVER !!!
What a great singer GM is
His voice has such a full rich tone to it.
He blew everyone out of the water that day. Simply sublime and amazing. Love him always
Amazing..George Michael you will be truly missed.😇
Great performance I forgot about this and how good he was with this song....and looking good as always!
R.I.P. George. Thanks for the great memories of iconic performances. What would the 80s have been without you?
He's pitch perfect with no need for auto-tune. That's how you do it. The real deal.
An incredible performance - so sad - RIP George Michael
RIP George Michael. Go and sing along with Freddie and Bowie.
John Briceno That's one Heaven of a Trio.
See what you did there! If 2017 gets the musical-dredging we've just gone through...don't bare thinking about. RIP George - a legend without question.
John Briceno and a good old jamming session with bob marley rip gm
The joyful expression of Brian May at 4:16 is priceless! That it's the smile of a happy musician, happy friend, happy human being.
"One of my favorite songs."
:)
I was there it was mind blowing
R.I.P George, it's time for you to sing along with Freddie in heaven...
R.I.P. George Micheal and Freddie Mercury 2 great legends
George Michael in one of his interviews was asked if he's worried about not having a record for a long time and not making money- answered that he had saved his money more than what he needs in his lifetime and that he has maintaned a foundation helping some unfortunate kids yet he need not elaborate to maintain his humility.
How many stars, today, in the sky... :(
You can tell how well the performer does by how the rest of band responds to them. You can tell they weren't just putting up with him and really enjoyed playing with George. He did a knock out job!
Absolutely !!
I was there that day and George was amazing!
Lucky you! He is my favourite singer. 😍
+Marjorie Babin
He really was at his peak wasn't he!
+Helena Stephens without any doubt. Sooooo handsome!
I was there in August 1988 in Montreal at the Olympic Stadium. I was 14 years old.... I cried, I was so excited! Best memories ever...
Congratulations. I'd wish to see George someday! He's really a jewerly!
This moved me to tears in 1992. And now, once again. Beautiful
Not a big george michael fan personally but have to admit this gives me goosebumps everytime i watch it.I believe brian may asked him to step in and take freddies place as lead singer and gm said he was humbled to even be considered for the job but declined as he felt he would never stand up to the job anywhere near as great as freddie was,In my opinion he was the only one to come close to being a replacement although freddie mercury will never be equalled as a frontman i think george could of made him proud.
Too right,, while I don't like GM either he would blow the socks off lambert and Rodgers,, point proved right here !
George Michael is an exceptional vocalist...although there was calls for him to become new lead singer, Freddie was his idol and he felt unworthy of doing so. Class act.
Beyond sad! Part of my youth passed away with him! What a great voice, what a shattered soul...
Same here.I'm 38 and I grew up with MTV especially Father figure and Freedom
same feeling here. im 36
Bart Des yeah..
I turn 40 this year. Queen and Wham/GM were a big part of my life.
Yea me too😭
We're gonna start a 38-year-old club. Same here.
Brian May at 4.16 - genuinely impressed and enjoying George's performance- Respect!
George Michael is the best and the most gifted singer in the world's history! He is second to none! The one and only!! Even in the future there will never be someone like him!!
I agree 100%!!!
4m 18s. Brian knows he is nailing it...
✞ R.I.P. GEORGE MICHAEL 1963-2016 ✞
Unbelievable performance. Still hits hard after all these years. RIP
His voice was and always will be like medicine to me... RIP George...
Now George is dead...singing in heaven with Freddie... R.I.P
Nobody can replace Freddy Mercury, but George Michael comes very, very close. Having said that, it's doing him a disservice to compare him to Freddy, because George is just such an incredible singer in his own right.
It's about time George Michael was Knighted, a true British legend. His talent is that great there are no suitable superlatives to describe it.
+rolybling It's a big shame that he isn't Knighted yet. I want see Sir George Michael.
+rolybling You must be fucking kidding.
+Eric George these people clearly don't know about GM's antics
Mo Hamud
I know all about his antics, it means nothing to me, he's one of the best singer/songwriters the UK has ever produced and that's all I care about. I honestly don't give two fucks what he does in his private life and neither should you as...drum roll please....YOU DON'T KNOW HIM.
+rolybling being caught in public sex acts and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol are not things you can freely do in your "private life" nor are they things people get knighted for because drum roll please... ITS ILLEGAL.
Let's admitted, George is one hell of a singer!!!!!
Too much respect to him!!!
George sang with passion, real feelings it is easy to notice that.
Look at Brian 04:17, the relief on his face after George nails that final phrase. I remember when I saw it in 1992, my mouth dropped, and it still does today.
+Jacques Mertens Me, too! I held my breath as he started that note. George is outstanding.
+Jacques Mertens I agree. I watched the entire concert and Brian was most pleased by this particular performance. It was the only one worth watching over and over and over again
George nails this flawless!
What did he nail exactly? The public sang "LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE" for him.
The high note that George sung before that part.
Amazing live performance... George inspired everybody...
There's a cool and amazing Band Aid in Heaven...
What a man! What a voice! He was one of a kind! HE WAS A CHOOSEN ONE!!! He was gifted, such an amazing man, handsome... is there anzthing else? He was in our world to feel the beauty of the life! I am deeply in love with him! R.I.P. ! True sorrow!
George really stole the show that night with this performance, he really nailled it.
The only Man who could wear Freddie’s shoes
Farewell George Michael.
KB-P2730 agreed 👌🏻
Why coz he gay??
So true
Even Brian May had a smile on his face...
Well said. Fck'em - ALL. George Michael is BIG.... Freddie is GREAT/ABSOLUTE - whatever.
Absolutely kills it. A rare example.
I can't stop watching this performance it is extraordinary!!! I remember watching this on TV and being blown away by it, I was 19 at the time!!! Been a fan sense the being of his career!!! He will be missed by millions, my heart still aches over this lose!!!!! RIP AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
George Michael should have been the new singer in Queen !
+Klaus They did ask him to join. He turned them down
Adam Lambert isn't a bad singer by any stretch of the imagination, but he sounds like a pale imitation and an off Broadway production of Freddy.
George Micheal on the other hand is not Freddy but is great in his own right and brings his own voice and would have been a better fit.
+Klaus G Queen without Freddie is like a pub without Beer.
This was an awesome peformance.
Michael did it on his own way but what makes it so great was that he brougth the same energy in the song that Freddie gave.
But there wil neve be somebody else like Freddie Mercury.
+Rockstarfrom1989 This performance was relased as a single later that year in the U.K
I know, but my opnion still stands.
A lot of musicians say it to: There´s no one like Freddie Mercury
They were all great and that wasnt a competition, but George Michael was on different level. Even Freddy couldnt perform that song better.
George Michael is brilliant, the only one who could ever replace Freddie
Respect to GM & Queen , I always felt George Michaels should have toured with Queen .
Brilliant. If you want to honor Freddie, do it like this!
4.02 - especially note perfect by George; could've been Freddie singing at that point. Massive respect to GM.
Best life performance of George. RIP
no one else in this concert could even hit the right notes and then george michael got up and did the best performance ever
Not too many other singers who could do Freddie justice. RIP.
RIP GEORGE MICHAEL. The best vocal, fantastic music&songs! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, George Michael has a great voice!!!
Thanks for being existed King George. Good journey to heaven .... and also embraces Freddy for us.
George Michael on fire !! What a rendition !!
Your defence is terrified.
Love this song,love Queen,love George Michael...❤️💜💛💚💙💞
George was the only guy that could do Freddie justice. Both true legends taken too soon 😢
RIP George Michael, we've lost a talent. One of many we've lost in 2016 :(
There's gonna be a big band up there RIP
Im not a George Michael fan but that man belts out one of the best versions of this song I have ever heard just brilliant
Nice to hear this beautiful song of Freddie sings by George ! Only him could make it possible ! RIP MY BRO & SAY HELLO TO FREDDIE ❤❤
George killed it, goddamn what a voice
my favorite version of somebody to love is George Michael with queen's version.
Soooo good. what a performer. R.I.P. sweet man. x
Loved both - Freddie & George .. great Singers .. now they hopefully sing together in heaven
david bowie, george michael and freddie mercury mega band in heaven.
And Michael Jackson?
