I am only considering one interaction with the Baiken rope. If the rope disappears after dealing damage to Baiken that's okay, but if the rope doesn't come off after attacking Baiken then I have a question. What happens if Axl uses the Axl Bomber on Baiken while he has the rope on himself? Axl x Baiken Airlines?

I'm curious how well that would work out though, because the further someone gets the more it increases the gravity between the characters. So, because the bomber sends someone up fairly high, would the rope cause baiken to fall back down too quickly to do bomber loops?
She looks like a ton of fun. I feel for the players who aren’t happy with the changes to her counter system, but I can’t deny that I think her gameplay looks pretty sick in Strive
tbh I don't care at all about losing azami, I would have been ok with no counter at all. what i'm most sad about is losing out on the follow-ups
You know, it's kinda weird. I don't much care for Baiken. Like, she's cool a fuck, I don't deny that, but she's just not a character I've ever had the desire to play. But somehow I feel kinda sad seeing the followups go
You know whats the best part? During the entirety of the trailer, she talks with delilah, at first it doesnt really look like it, but you can get it once you hear the line "just ask me and ill wake you the hell up, gotta go up to him" she is clearly telling delilah that if she wants to see her brother again, she can just ask her and she will make her wake up, killing her so that she can see him again, which also shows that she really really cares about delilah, kinda like a sister, so this probably means that delilah became Baikens pupil, which 1) its really fucking sick 2) it might mean that she could be a sleepy swordifighter, like sleepwaking, kinda like zenitsu and 3) that she will probably be the fifth dlc character, as she will come with a bit of story explaining how Baiken trained her and what they did together, especially if they want to continue with the new, old, new, old thing that they did with the pass, the stage could be delilah version of the dream world, who knows, but honestly she seems the one that hss to the most chance to be the next dlc, or else they wouldnt talk about her so much

Only thing I disagree with is that she'll be the fifth DLC. I'd lean towards her being first or second next season, or even coming with Season 2 immediately.
personally i find it annoying that they've shoehorned her into events involving/stemming from Bedman, as within Xrd she never interacted with him to begin with - but hey, it wouldn't be a Guilty Gear game without (even more) retcons.

@@bcmsoundsystem3745 i had the same idea as you, but after looking at all the stuff they said its probably pretty clear that its gonna be her, the first thing being that all of these voicelines that baiken has with delilah, they cant all be in game, because then she would have like 5 voicelines when fighting delilah, so some of them will probably be in the story, also they found bedmans bed model in the files, meaning that there could be a flashback in the story mode of the fifth dlc with bedman bed reappearing, also if they want to keep up with the old new old new stuff the only two characters that are new are asuka and Delilah, maybe zepp but he never appears in the story, so delilah could have a part of the story, and in that story also meet new characters, old characters, as well as a new villain that could appear in the second pass, maybe she meets slayer and jam, and thats why they have files too

Collecting some other thoughts I've seen to add to the discussion here. 1) From Max, #1 Baiken fan. He thinks that the way she plays here, especially with parry drastically simplified down to a special, seems to be what they've always been searching for with her, and he's super stoked about it. Finally you can just play her as a normal character. Heavy endorsement from the guy with her literally in his animated CZcams intro. 2) From Lastcody: There is no indication in any of the videos of what happens if she gets hit while tethered. It seems like it would likely break on first hit to be sane, but we will have to see. Biggest unanswered question. 3) Also, Cody: The clip of her parrying Nago's beyblade is the most beautiful thing and is what's going to sell you on her wholeheartedly if you're leaning but not sure. :D 4) Cody: Baiken used to get stunned a lot in Xrd, and there's no stun in Strive, so that's an immediate change in her favor.

She plays the exact same. All of Baiken's tools in Xrd had her get close to you. Cmd Dash, IAD tatami, claw hook. The tether lets you do all of that in one move. Now you can IAD Tatami and you don't have to HS Claw (Xrd) them back over to you. The Tether does it for you.

Honeslty at first I was super sad to see the guardcancels go and am kinda scared that her archetype seems to have switched.
But ultimatly I think thats something that has to be tried in game. We don't know her framedata yet, and Strive just has very different normals to older GG's so I'm kinda hoping that helps the counter not just end up being a conditional dp. Which in my mind would take away a lot of her oppressing deffense... Like I get it's annoying to have to play differently against her then the rest of the cast, since Baiken can fuck up your offense after the first hit, but as long as she is not overtuned I feel like there is more merit in there being matchups that force you to change up your playstyle, than just keeping everyone streamlined.
Thing is that kinda applies to Baiken too, Strive is a very different game. So while I'm, personally disapointed by what seems to be missing, as long as she is fun to play, thats what matters in the end. It's not like the old games are gone or anything... Hell if we get lucky Xrd will get the Rollback treatment one Day anyways and then all the Baiken mains can go play whatever version they like most.

it seems to have a shit ton of recovery frames that only start when you land. Not sure ofc, but from what we saw it looks like it's stupidly unsafe

not just on wake up, but in neutral in general. 1:43 you can clearly see how fast Anji recovered from getting tatamied in neutral, while Baiken is still in (what I think) recovery frames

When fighting a fast character. If a millia or chipp is runing to u they can avoid tatami and be next to u, of course tatami gaeshi got recovery so u will get hit. u also cant against potemin because with 4Hold-6HS he will tank tatami gaeshi with armor and hit u. Axl low fullscreen range so u also cant

I'm just sad that they made her old parry a counter. I liked the fact that you could choose the follow-up to her parry, but mostly important it was pretty badass to parry a entire string and punish the enemy in the end. Gonna miss that

@@Kizzie_Kay I'm not that worried about her general gameplay, I'm just a little worried about how they may handle other characters in the future. Simplifying moves is totally ok by all means and based on what this game propose is we should expect simplifications, but arcsys seems to be unable to balance some decisions that should go into consideration when taking options away in order to simplify things. Baiken parry being a counter is one example. In older games if you successfully got a parry you would punish the opponent by executing a combo, which sometimes could be difficult if we're talking about optimal stuff. In Strive her parry automatically follows up with a counter attack if the opponent is up close, a clear simplification, but they kept the damage as high as the one you would get in the older games by pushing them with a combo. And this isn't the first time things went that way. Sol's command grab was a big trait of his gameplay in the older games: if you got the throw your opponent was combo food. Loops, air combos, you name it. But all that if you knew how to follow it up. Otherwise you could do Wild Throw and get nothing in return because you didn't have the knowledge or execution to get a good chunk of damage out. In Strive you don't get the combo opportunity after Wild Throw, but you still taking away a considerable amount of your opponents health, that may be comparable with what you would've get in the older games, while this time no execution is required to do so. Anyway, I could ramble about it a little more but I guess I've already typed more than your average CZcams comment should. Peace love ur streams.

Looks like a solid secondary character for me love the design, her moves look awesome and she does not appear super complicated to use happy they made her easy to use in this version.
Believe it or not she was always on the easy side but the game not being combo heavy made her easiness more visible if that makes sense

When I VERY first was introduced to this game she caught my eye.
regardless of how strong she might be(which i think she looks super cool, but it's hard to make calls at this point), i'm super excited to play her. i tried her for a bit and xrd and found her mad fun, so i'm looking forward to how that translates in strive!
She might be more stronger due to the fact she has more gatling options in strive naturally ( she couldn't do 2k 2d in rev2) so that imo is huge

Cuz they state that you can use the HS version to get an extra move off and afterwards the rope breaks. So I think you could throw and then do back to front hs to cancel it? Ive been kinda scared to get back into strive since I have little playtime on it and I've been away for a few months but I wanna give Baiken a shot.
Coming from someone who exclusively played baiken in xrd, I’m am baffled they kept the instant overhead. Aside from that I love what they did with this character and it’s an honest hope that the rope stays after she gets hit cause that’s a necessary balance. Tatami also seems to hit less high, based off the animations at least. I’m sad to see the alpha counter and command dash leave because they were part of the character I originally fell in love with when starting guilty gear, but I’m happy to see how this new gimmick affects the strive environment

I was expecting them to take out the defensive stuff so im not mad, but damn im gonna miss completely stopping ppls rushdown and forcing them to use their brain.
Honestly I'm kinda glad. I play I-No in xrd but I've always wanted to play Baiken. She seems a bit more accessible for me now.
I feel like only a small percentage of people were able to play Baiken at the level necessary to full utilize her though. Which is pretty cool, tbh. But from a game designer perspective, I think that can also be considered a flawed outcome.
Like as an artist sometimes I'll put hours into pieces, post in on my socials and then barely get any engagement from it. At the end of the day, I'm happy it resonates with a few people, but it's still disappointing to not have more people interested, regardless. And I'm sure Arcsys is at a point where they desire for more players from a design perspective AND from a financial perspective. So you gotta do, what you gotta do.

I never stopped liking her visual design, so I'm still gonna play her and have a great time, rather than worry about something the devs never promised.

In Pot match up, baiken mains probably will just zone using backdash tatami gaeshi and abandoned the rope so it's not hopeless I guess. The question is the parry can block high, mid, and low?

1. The tether breaks when Baiken is attacked or she uses the heavy slash Kabari
2. Hiiragi probably parries ALL strikes in exchange for being unable to parry projectiles and leaving her easy to punish on whiff

Dude I don't want to be strapped to Nago, Pot or Sol at any time in this game. It's way too early to call but at this stage I have a feeling the tether's implementation is pretty short-sighted and overall could wind up being way detrimental to her.
While pot is definitely the scariest to be attached to, one of the biggest things I think would dictate the other non grappler MU is how good her parry is

I was so hyped for the character but then I lost all of it when I realized what they had done with her and how much they had reduced the skill floor. No more dustloops, no more suzuran, and no more azami made me really sad. I am still going to be maining her when she comes out, though. If anything this makes her a lot easier to use imo so should be easy picking her up in training mode and then hopping online and doing okay.

I don't think she'll be top tier.
Like, normals are average, counter is risky and main gimmick doesn't really work vs most gorillas of the cast. She is a hard counter to Axl, Faust and Chaos if she gets her gameplan going first, but lose the neutral and welcome to singleplayer mode.
Like, her best matchups would be with either neutral/keepaway heavy characters or those relying on their mobility options. And I'm digging it, to hell with Gio's dash sweep.

Remember how people say that chaos was not that strong when they showed him. After a few days, deb showed people what he can do and now he's a monster, not top tier but he's almost there. As a long-time Baiken player, I like a lot of the changes they've made to her, but they've definitely taken away a lot of what drew me to the character in the first place. Strive's toned-down mobility definitely limits Baiken's ability to control space more here than in a lot of the other games. Losing Suzuran is another huge slap to her mobility, but I honestly think it was for the best. It would have been very difficult to balance with how Strive plays. Tatami still looks strong, but it doesn't look like the cornerstone that holds her kit together, which it 100% was in the past. Losing Azami hurts a lot, as that obnoxious defense and the ability to call players out for continuing strings was really what made Baiken an exciting character for me to play. So, they've removed a lot of what I liked about the character. Does that mean I'm dropping her? OH FUCK NO.
Look, as cool as Azami was, it wouldn't have worked as well with Strive's general gameplay. Even if I have mixed feelings about Strive's reduced mobility, I still think Tatami does its job very well within that context and that it will still define her neutral game. What is exciting me about this character now is her combo game, which looks absolutely bonkers by what they've shown off here. The new rope that she tethers to her opponent after Kabari or a grab is an incredibly powerful neutral tool but is also going to allow her to pull of some utterly batshit combos, especially in the corner. Something tells me that the rope is going to make dustloops look kinda tame by comparison. Youzansen is absolutely enormous now, allowing it to be used as an air mixup a lot easier. This also gives it extra synergy with Tatami, which is incredibly scary in its own right. Her two supers look fine, with both being great combo tools and Kenjyu looking like it will give her extra ways to end combos. The only move I'm not sold on yet is her counter, Hiiragi, but it still looks like a decent counter, which is good enough for me.
Ultimately, Baiken looks like a neutral monster at this point, which is a pretty natural transition from her past as a hyper-mobile space-control character. Up to this point in Strive, I was a Happy Chaos main, and while I think it will be difficult to give him up as a main, I am more than willing to add Baiken to my arsenal when she comes out. She looks like a lot of fun and I'm very excited to see what she can do.
Even with the movesets that they took away I feel you'll play baiken the same from any other version of the game. She still may lose to pot still 😂😂😂😂

As a Nago main, I cannot wait to bite Baiken's that are tethered to me. That being said, I'm dying to know how the tether interacts with Oppose or happy chaos' clone. If you can go through happy chaos' clone with 41236S, she might be a good counter pick to zato and happy!

Pots easily her worse match up but i feel like it wouldnt be horrible
I see so many people out here acting they don't have a choice with the tether. If you don't want to, just don't tether them. And tether isn't much of a problem if you learn how to follow it up.
@@steffanhymer1285 tru, but she has no way to really deal with purple rc command grab in pressure and she cant grab him safely because it auto tethers
@@certified_0njah196 from what I saw her sword super is a reversal super. PRC would be a dead give away the grab is coming. Anyone with fast enough hands and meter can have a "No U" option there still. So she is at a disadvantage in the overall situation but I won't say without options.
