    This time last year I couldn't do a single pull up (or chin up), but I saw this video and did exactly what it laid out. Starting with negatives I eventually got a real pullup, then another and another. At 12 the progress stopped so I started using a weight belt. Now I do sets of 5 with 70lbs added and can do a normal set well into the 20s.
    Danke Sehr, Scooby.

      +hannes jacobsson It does! it's very important to remember though that he wasn't lying at the start when he said that one of the easiest ways to improve your pullups is to lose weight. When I started working on pullups, I also started doing cardio and other exercise regularly and dropped from 195 to 150... being 45lbs lighter really helps as well.

    Pullups are a great gauge of overall fitness! Remember that increasing pullups is a two pronged task, first to reduce bodyfat and second to increase strength. You can do eight pullups by doing one or the other but to really crank out the pullups requires both strength and low bodyfat.

      +scooby1961 This advice is so way off point…you should refrain from further embarrassing yourself with nutritional advice. Vitamin overdose? Really? Are you shilling for Big Agra?
      IF you eat like garbage, yes, you SHOULD immediately eat better, that’s your health problem right there... Food is health care, medicines are sick care.
      And YES, one should NOT take vitamins as an excuse oneself for bad eating habits.
      But to suggest one CAN get sufficient amounts of vitamins from a good diet is ignorant of the awful nutritional quality of factory foods we are offered in America. EVEN GOOD FOODS.
      We’ve been growing food in America over 200 years.
      When growing, plants take up almost 77 regular and trace minerals from the ground.
      So what do we usually do? Fertilize.
      BUT that only replaces 3-4 minerals to the ground.
      You can do the math yourself. Simple
      Our food supply is depleted of essentiual nutrients.
      EVEN eating good foods doesn’t supply near the amounts needed.
      If you eat like garbage, taking vitamins at least replenishes some of the lost vital ingredients in your food.
      Even a carefully crafted, well balanced diet of organic products is STILL generally depleted because of the above equation.
      Any national government agency’s advice is riddled with ‘science’ supplied by vested interests.
      The MRDA are a joke and have been for years.
      I agree, eating healthy is your best insurance.
      But ‘supplements’, by definition bolster and support the dreafuul food available to the general public.
      Stick to advice about bodybuilding. You appear to be better suited at that.

      How's it going?

    • @solidsnake58
      @solidsnake58 Před 8 lety +2

      I must admit that I'm not following Scooby's technique to the letter because I incorporated it into my other lifting but his "walk the plank" technique has definitely helped me increased my strength in a way that's so much more satisfying than increasing wt. on the bar bell. When I started, my 1rst rep I had just enough strength so lower myself without falling but by the end of the 8th rep I was just dropping. It didn't make sense to do more than 2 sets because I was completely depleted. Now, after a month, I can actually hold myself for several seconds. I still can't do a chin up because I'm trying to lose weight. My biggest problem is having trouble eating a calorie deficit and getting enough protein in a day. But consistency is the key and this is actually my favorite exercise because I can feel the gradual improvement!

    • @solidsnake58
      @solidsnake58 Před 8 lety

      I am in an interesting place physically. I have plateaued but I'm definitely stronger than I've ever been. I started a desk job almost two months ago so I've been slacking off on my routine, however even when I was giving it my all I wasn't able to lose any weight. This was very frustrating and confusing. It's hard to do a pullup when you're being weighed down. So , while my muscles grew I couldn't shed the fat. Good news is, I did some research and found a connection between the medication I've been taking and weight gain. I talked to my doctor and I've been going off the meds for the last couple of weeks. I should be off complete by the end of the month and then it takes awhile to completely leave my system. Scoobys routine has definitely helped me see results (I can definitely hold myself up on the bar like never before) but until I can lose weight I've been struggling to advance. I'm not quitting. My workload at the job has lightened so I'm hoping to get back in the gym, hit the weights, and lose some weight loss. I'll keep you posted.
