Baby Elephant Phabeni Drinks Goat Milk Bottles 🍼

- With Phabeni not drinking sufficient milk formula, we made the decision to try feeding him goat milk.
While he walks with the herd in the early morning, he still returns to the orphanage afterwards so to conserve energy and slowly increase his weight.
In this video, big bull Jabulani visits Phabeni at the orphanage to give him comfort.
It is the first time we have needed to turn to goat milk as an option, with Phabeni being temperamental in taking other milk formula. Phabeni is drinking the goat milk well and has even put on some weight. The goat milk does lack in a sufficient supply of some nutrients that Phabeni needs but the important thing currently is getting him to accept bottles and drink. We will work on adding extra nutrients to it in the future as Phabeni’s stomach adapts to this new milk.
Fortunately Phabent has not had any diarrhoea or stomach problems on account of the milk change.
Adine shares a morning view of the orphanage kitchen as we prepare the milk and then weigh Phabeni in the nursery ✨
I’m 68 yrs old and my mom told me that I wouldn’t be alive if not for goat’s milk. Apparently I wouldn’t accept her milk. I love all of your babies
Goodness, that is a beautiful story, thank you for sharing it with us.
Me too! I had colic and couldn’t keep anything down and my mom gave me goat’s milk and bananas. I’ve been very healthy all my life and am now 71. I think there’s something very healing about goat’s milk. Glad that our little boy is gaining weight and drinking his goal milk. Sending you lots of love, Phabeni! ❤
Same for me. Still can’t do regular milk, but I love goat cheese.😃
@cgj12: Interesting, thanks for sharing that with us. We appreciate your support and care for Phabeni.
This is wonderful news💛 thank you all for all that you do💛
You are so kind, thank you also for your kind support.

@@herdelephantorphanage I completely understand Phabeni. I prefer goats milk as well!
Thank you for the details about nutrients still needed. Learning is wonderful.
SO glad to see him getting back to himself!!! 💕 🐘 ❤ You all work so hard with these magnificent, yet sometimes delicate animals, it’s so gratifying & heartwarming to watch your efforts pay off. What you have accomplished with Khanyisa is also incredible, as is SHE! 🥰 RESPECT to all the members of HERD, Dr. Rogers and all the outside experts who offered advice and support throughout this challenging time in Phabeni’s recovery ❤️🩹 It is a HONOR to watch you all come together to save this precious soul. Phabeni's gained three kilos, yayyyyy....
Goat milk does miracles!
Yes, wonderful news🤞🏻🍼🐘🐐🍼.
Such a beautiful news. Dear Phabeni, please drink your milk so you can walk with your family sooner. A ton of thank yous to his human family, too.
Thank you for your kind comments, it means a lot!
So thankful he's drinking the goats milk! 💜🙏💙
Gaotmilk is a good derivative for other species, I've of racoons and other animals in rescue shelters given gaotmilk, but do you think his preference is do to Lammies bad influence 😂😂
. . . heard of racoons . . . Of course
I'm so happy that he likes the goats milk! So important to get him taking his bottles again! I really hope they can get a larger refrigerator though, that tiny one won't do!
Thanks for your comments. We don't think that Lammie the sheep influenced little Phabeni, because he seems to have a mind of his own. 🐘🍼🐐🐑
Agreed, we are just so pleased that he is drinking "milk".🍼🍼🐘
This is great news. Glad that he is gaining weight too. The care that HERD gives these ellies is second to none. This has made my day!
It is wonderful when a day brings pleasantries, thanks for the support.
Oh I’m so happy and thrilled that Phabeni is drinking his milk well and has gained some weight! I don’t know about anyone else, but I have fallen in love with Phabeni! And I also love the herd too. All different personalities and likes. May God bless you abundantly for taking care of these beautiful elephants! Blessings always!! ❤️🙏😊
Thank you so much. You are so kind!
@@herdelephantorphanage ok ok
I adored our baby bull before he became ill and could not wait for a video that included him.
Since he's been ill, I realized how much he'd crept into my heart. ❤❤❤ I am relieved and grateful to God that he is on the road to a full recovery.
When Phabeni was behind the fence and Jabulani was visiting, Phabeni looked so listless. That was a sad moment.
It was great to see how much He wanted his milk bottled and gulped it down.
Big love to all The Herd team, including the office staff, and all the followers around the world. ❤❤❤
@@herdelephantorphanageSo thrilled Phabeni likes the goats milk! Very much hoping you all can get a larger refrigerator, it's definitely needed!
Goats milk saved many a human baby, including my own. I am so glad little Phabeni not only seems to like it, but demands to be fed
That is very interesting, thank you for sharing your story. We appreciate your support.
As I understand, it is nearly impossible to be allergic to goat milk. All species can drink it. Naturally homogenized. Momma goats save many lives every day❣
Yes, goat's milk saved my child too! 😍
@myprophet1: Yes, many health benefits.
Adine, it was wonderful to hear you laughing again! You are the greatest ellie mama! ❤❤
That is so kind of you. 🐐🍼💕
Yess you are, and to hear you laugh, is also an inmens relief, to see Phabeni bounce back to his own self.
You can hear the joy in her voice. Maybe now they can all get some well-deserved & stress-free sleep.😅

Super excited that Phabeni is doing well😘 and thanks to all of you at HERD for your determination 🥰

That is so nice of you, thank you for your kind support.
Goats milk? Of course! That makes sense. Lil Phaabeni is as stubborn as a goat or 2 + a herd of mules! May be what helped him hold on till they found the magic milk solution
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@vblackwell3347: Lovely comparison.
So happy he's drinking something!! Can add extra nutrients as needed

What a wonderful news, that Adine and her colleagues have found a new feeding option for little Phabeni, namely goat's milk, and it seems that our beloved boy likes to drink it! @@herdelephantorphanage Thank you so much for your kindness!!!😀💖⚘️🍄🙏🇭🇺
What kind of formula were you attempting to feed Phabeni? I have been hearing about products from certain companies having reported issues. Many reports of pets refusing to eat foods from certain companies.

Oh, thank you to all who sent good wishes, prayers, and positive thoughts to our little boy. It looks like it all worked, and he's getting better. Drink up little man so you can go out with your elephant family for longer bush walks.
I giggled at our pink princesses' little backpack. Love her and all of them so much.

Phabeni 🐘 is finally drinking his bottle 🍼👏👏👏. This is great news. Maybe request donations for a bigger refrigerator. Jabulani 🐘 is such a great big brother giving Phabeni 🐘 a little company and comfort.
Phabeni 🐘 does have a mind of his own while Starvos was feeding him. Trying to get Phabeni 🐘 positioned on the scale. So glad to see he is gaining weight.
Adine thank you for thinking out of the box for a milk supplement he seems to like.
Thank you Adine for keeping us updated on our little Beni 🐘. ❤️🐘❤️

Great job on goat's milk. My daughter wouldn't take my milk or semalac. My dad knew a guy that had goat's milk. She loved it. After a few months, she was a chunk monk. She does not like milk to this day. 😊 I'm glad he likes it. Hope it continues to work. ❤🐘♥️♥️♥️🐘
What a lovely story thanks for sharing. We appreciate your support.
I saw a goat nursing a foal. Yay for goats they are helpful and useful and God's creatures! 🎉 Phabeni getting his milk on!! 🎉❤
LOL! Thank you so much for the support!
I agree! God's creatures very often do help out with other babies....it is very humbling when you see how much love they have for other animals babies, whilst that does not always happen but it is not as rare as we may think! Have a great day:)
Phabeni's legs are so thin and that is heartbreaking, but Adine, you and Herd team are absolutely amazing! I know you will get him through this!
Thanks for your words of encouragement.
Couldnt be happier with this latest news! Phabeni, drink, drink, drink your milk! PS. Maybe a fund raiser for a bigger fridge.

Goat milk! That is fantastic! Now we just need those extra nutrients as the milk is a win for him! So happy it is working. The finicky Phabeni lets us know what he does and does not like!
Yes, he is the boss of us 🐘🍼🐐.
I am so happy that little Phabeni is tolerating the goat milk. Hopefully, he will continue gaining weight and getting all the nutrients he needs to be healthy. Thanks so much to Adine and the carers, that are going out of their way to get Phabeni healthy and strong!!!!♥️🥰🐘🍀🌟🍼🙏🏻💪🏻
Thanks for all the encouragement and kind words, it is appreciated.
So happy that he is at least entertaining the goats milk and if he is putting on weight then that is a good sign....thank you for updating us! I am keeping my vibes high that baby P will get through this blip and start to get back into drinking full portions of his milky bottles! Bless his cotton socks! Thanks Adine and all the carers for being so diligent and keeping on with finding the right formula for him...I know he knows he feels loved! That is half the battle....would like to know what Dr Roberts thinks about the wound on his hip long term. That was an unfortunate side effect of the dart that they needed to calm him for his rescue journey....being such a young baby, his skin perhaps not thick enough yet. I am praying for his full healing.....bless you all for being his Human family and giving him the best chance.
Aah thank you! That's very sweet!
That's awesome news! Goat milk is actually a great option, even if you have to add some nutrients and oil to it. It's a natural source of milk so doesn't have that powdered or chemical taste. So happy Phabeni gained 3 kilos! Keep up the good work Team!!
Thanks for the positive feedback and loyal support.

Phabeni is truly a challenging baby ellie to feed, but for some reason, that makes him even more lovable. He can make you fall in love with him more with that big personality. I am so happy you found milk that he prefers and drinks. I hope he still can obtain all his needed nutrients through other means. Thank you so much, Adine and all HERD team for having all hands on deck for this rather picky, but adorable baby bull. His bond with his carers is also so beautiful to see, and he seems to already like Golden as well. Phabeni, all Jabulani herd ellies, and you, God-sent people are all in our prayers. Ohhh Lord, please let this work for our little baby Phanbeni!
Oh, I'm so glad for baby Phabeni! Get stronger soon, our little warrior (or shall I say worry-or? haha)
Haha that is very funny thanks for sharing.
that is good to hear.. i may have commented at some point on goat milk for sensitive tummies... so it is nice to hear Phabeni is taking it and taking it well. I even saw in groceries that they are making and selling powdered goat's milk for babies! And that is my current residence in Mexico, so I wld think there is even more in North America . In the Philippines my birth country, they even milk carabaos or water buffalos to make mozzarella like cheese .. but that is very high fat for humans to regularly drink.
Wonderful Adine...all. thanks ❤❤❤
Thanks you too!
So happy Phabeni is putting on weight! ❤ Welcome to the crew, Golden!👋😃🎉
Thanks for your love for Phabeni. Thank you for extending a welcome to Golden.
Good old goat milk! :D I am very happy to hear he seems to accept it well! Kind regards!
Us too! Thank you so much for the support!
It was good to look outside the box when it came to searching out alternative sources of milk for Phabeni. I had been thinking about his lack of enjoyment with the bovine animal protein based formula's and I had been tossing around in my head both human breast milk and colostrum, but unless there are hundreds of lactating mothers around South Africa willing to donate their milk for a baby elephant, which is extremely unlikely, I think that the ease of digestion of the goat milk proteins will hopefully allow Phabeni to feel and feed a bit better. As you said Adine, you still have to add supplements to the goat milk but thank goodness a goat farmer is willing to come on board with you, Doctor Rogers and the HERD team. It is certainly encouraging news and I hope that the good news continues! Just remember to keep up your own self care because the road with Phabeni is a marathon not a sprint and he relies on you so! You all do a fabulous job.
Thank you for your kind comments, it means a lot! It’s amazing how we can all support one another; we truly appreciate your support and kind thoughts; these trials and tribulations are there to not only challenge us but also make us more resilient.

Perhaps he is lactose intolerant? My daughter was and we had to feed her isomil, basically soy milk, she always smelt like potatoes lol.
Goats milk contain lactose but not as much as cow's milk. Goats milk is higher in protein and fats too. It's great that Phabeni is drinking goats milk. He is a loved little baby. I couldn't tolerate cows milk as a baby so grew up on goat's milk. I still love goat's cheese as an adult😀
So happy that baby P is gaining weight. It suggests all your worrying and planning and thinking things through is working.
I remember the six to eight months it took to eventually sort my baby girls true lactose allergy. Very worrying time especially as doctors were trying to convince me it was all in my mind. The day she ate a plate of dinner without vomits or Diarrhea was a day of great joy. You must feel the same with baby P. Going to donate another 20.00 on top of monthly amount to help you get a new fridge/freezer. Good work team. Worth it to see him healthier ❤❤
