What sorcery is this? A video about Wojtek that:
1. Includes good pronunciation of "Wojtek" and other Polish names.
2. Does a decent job of presenting the historical context of the story.
3. Does not include a clearly fake, photoshopped photo of a random bear with the German Fallschirmjäger (paratroopers) or something like that.
And on top of that also covers the story of Baśka Murmańska with equal quality? This is too good to be true!

@@SirManateee You are welcome! It was exactly in 1984 so the martial law period has ended. My father was some years earlier (for "anticomunist" activities) in prison and didn´t want my sister and me to grow up in a dictatorship with ration stamps. The first choice of my parents was Switzerland (my fathers sister was living there already and his uncle (he was part of the Polish army in France which crossed the border to Switzerland after the French defeat in WWII)) but in this time the Swiss gave no permits to Polish families. So my parents decided to go to Austria but to the nearest place to the border of Switzerland (and this was Bregenz/Vorarlberg).
9:17 It actually says Swabians* instead of Fritzes, but for whatever reason a Swabian is a pejorative word for any German in Polish. Fritz in Polish would be "fryc" (although I seen it only in dictionary, never hear anybody saying it).
*so it is not a hard rule, but if derogatory terms should be written without capitalization so "szwab" is a pejorative word for a German, while "Szwab" is an ordinary word for a person from Swabia.
Do you happen to remember where you find information about Michał? Wojtek is docummented atleast to some extent, but I can't find any mention of Michał anywhere.

Headcanon insists there's a pile of stolen Nazi treasures sitting in a secret vault somewhere guarded by an equally-stolen stuffed polar bear.
I heard so many things about wojtek's story from all these different videos, and I always had trouble finding any other sources backing up the wackier claims. For instance, I heard that future Israeli prime Minister Menachem begin had something to do with him, and I couldn't find any sources that back that up. I'm also israeli and so was interested in michał because I could definitely find stuff about him if he really was moved to the tel aviv zoo, but the only source I could find for that was an online website, which while it was really nice it didn't have any sources. Also regarding begin's relationship with him, I heard some people only say that begin was in ander's army and maybe didn't even hear about wojtek and anyways wasn't close to him, and heard others say that he was like a major figure in his story. Anyways you seem like you did some really good research and you have access to stuff like polish sources so if you could give me some of your sources that would be really nice. It could be really cool to say talk to michał's zookeeper or something.

Speaking about sources listed in the description, I think you would find the first book on the list (the one by Norman Davies) interesting, particularly chapter 13 "The Anders' Aliyah".
I hate to be a pendant (not really) but horses did arguably participate in the fighting themselves and weren't just simply transports. A large part of the damage of a cavalry charge would come from the horses trampling enemy soldiers and they also have a deadly kick which they did use. The horse itself was also important in decision making since it would stop a charge if it saw a clear danger like a spear wall and was of course trained to work alongside the rider.
A lot of this is probably even more true of elephants since proper domestication of elephants is impossible and they're pretty smart.
I guess it'd be more true to say “fighting as an independent soldier alongside humans”.
