      There's a lot more they couldn't possibly fit in one video but they did SO MUCH before and during the uprising. Both boy and girl scouts were incredibly well organized but also didn't lack boldness and even humour. You should definitely read up on their methods of sabotage and diversion

      @@waifuhunter9815 nah Polish Army actually come back to live on 4th August 1914 (as 1st Cadre Company) but during whole WW1 Poland was still under Partision. I would rather say: Partision, WW2, Soviet occupation after WW2 to late 80's

      As a Pole i love south korea. We have very similar history of being fucked over and over and over again. Lucky for us our goverments see it and we invest into eachother, both on the civilian market and in the arms industry. Tho i gotta admit you run your country better then we do but oh well maybe it will change in a couple of years

    Interesting fact is, that the hungarian troops stationed near Warsaw refused to fight against the Poles. Actually the hungarians supplied them with ammunition, food, medications and provided shelter for the wounded.

    Oh man! This makes me really cry, I mean boy-scouts these would have been at least 13 years of age or older. Such a massive burden that they took unto themselves, in their finest hours, never wavered, pure in devotion to the cause and laying down the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. May these glorious heroes be forever honoured and remembered, may their sacrifices never be forgotten.

      Boys around 16-18 were commanders. Anything beyond 19-20 were officers. Kids as young as 12 fought on the frontline. Younger kids crawled through the sewers to deliver messages.

    I'm half Polish but grew up in Holland. I don't even know the language but I will never forget all the tales my grandmother told me about the war. She really disliked the Russians, which I didn't understand until I was older. On her birthday, the Polish side of the family used to do a few shots of vodka together and she would start singing war songs. She always tried offering me and my sister some vodka too, but we were much too young and my mom forbade it. She's too old and sick now to drink spirits, but she still comes to live when she hears old Polish marching songs.

    I am visiting Krakow today. They had a memorial at 5 oclock. All the sirens of the city sounded, and then everyone stood for a moment of silence. Then, Polish flags and songs.

    There were *volunteer* allied missions to drop supplies from aircraft to the resistance, by mid August 1944. My uncle, W.O. Murray. A. Baxter, piloted two such missions out of Foggia in Italy flying a Liberator, being shot down and killed on the second mission on August 15th.

      The "polish nation" wasn't destroyed. This was concentrated in Warsaw and other big cities. Though millions died, the poles still lived on, keeping their customs and their language. They were able to rebuild because the nation of the poles wasn't destroyed.
      Look at what happened to the nation of the Gauls after the Roman conquest of Gaul. That is what he means by a nation destroyed. Gaul as a nation simply doesn't exist anymore

Our nation spirit had been killed long time ago, and those who were meant to rebuilt our country: generals,pedagogues,doctors,lawyers, intellectuals were killed in Katyn's massacre or in Intelligenzaktion.     Also fun fact, General Edward Rydz-Śmigły, the former commander of Polish Forces before the war, actually escaped internment in Romania and joined the Underground Army but went under another name, because he still felt guilty for Poland's loss. He died in 1941-2 due to a heart attack though.

    For anyone interested as to how the Allies thanked the Poles for essentially giving them the tools to win the war, from a working enigma machine instrumental in the work at Bletchley to providing fighting men for damn near every major campaign in Europe..either read I Saw Poland Betrayed by Arthur Bliss Lane or just research the Yalta Conference. It truly is sad how the Allies threw Poland aside after the war…

    One of the members of the gray ranks remembers that when they retreated from the old town the civilians begged them to stay. This was one of the most tragic things about the uprising. People who didn’t exit the city in time were trapped and their only defense was the resistance. Every retreat meant that thousands civilians and wounded were left to die by the heads of the German forces. That is why this is one of the most bloody battle of the 20 century. In that battle more poles died than Americans in Vietnam.

At first yes but America never directly intervened in any meaningful capacity (save for a few airstrikes and some supplies I believe) to protect the French Colony of Feench Indochina. America intervened to stop the communists from overruing the south Vietnamese who were independent from France. American intervention was extremely limited in the 1956 First Indochina war. They had no intentions of returning it to French rule the strategic objective of the Second Indochina war was simply to preserve the status quo and prevent the fall of South Vietnam to the North which is where they failed and ultimately lost

    The Soviets had spies that informed them of the leadership in the Polish resistance. When the Soviets took control they had their spies gather up the officers and executed them. They oppressed the people of Poland. The war didn't end in 1945 for the Polish. They continued to fight the Soviets.

The killing of guards as a demonstration is documented by many sources, including ones like Alexander Werth's Russia at War, etc., but i have yet to see sources claiming unprovoked crackdowns.

      They really are, patriotism is a historic trait of Poles.
      They dissapeared from the map for more than a century, Napoleon reignited their patriotic flame when he campaigned against Russia through Poland... that flame lasted a hundred years, and then, just after WW1... Poland reappeared.

    My great grandfather was actually an officer who was killed in the Katyn Massacre. He still lays there today. My other great grandfather was a solider sent on the German front. He died within the first months of fighting.
    Take what you want from it, but my grandmother swears he came to her (as a spirit or ghost), and when he took his helmet off she saw his severed head and then he just faded away. She was two or three when he died.

    Extra History should do the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines as well. With a million Filipino deaths, the Philippines suffered an irreplaceable loss of culture and with Manila the second most devastated city besides Warsaw.

    I always liked learning about the Grey Ranks and Poland's history in WWII. It is hard to fight against people who have nothing to lose and the Germans learned that. Much respect to Poland and all of her brothers and sisters who died defending her.

    I had the distinct honor of fighting alongside the Polish while deployed to Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain in 2013. I do not know a people more fierce in a fight at more friendly in regular life. Polska Walczaca.

      True, I feel very bad for the Polish in WWII, but their Pre-War gov was pretty bad and not very nice. Average Poles just never seem to catch a break.

      On 30 Jul 1941 was signed Polish-Soviet Union Agreement. According to the agreement USSR equipped a polish Army of General Anders (75.000) which was supposed to fight on the soviet front. Though, violating the agreement Army of General Anders refused to fight in 1941 - 1942 and on the verge of Stalingrad battle has -escaped- was transferred to Iran.

      Poland never surrendered, despite having little to no help from their allies. Read about Monte Cassino if you’re interested.
