    Overall, I think it is worth it. You are blessed to be able to assist and take care of a total of seven (7) family members. Myself having lived in 6 different countries for a total of over 18 years. The one that was my best liking was the Philippines When I was station at Clark Air Base, Philippines. Even back then, what I would do was find stores that had prices labeled before I bought anything there. Of course some would call it discrimination for them to raise prices on foreigners. Even though, it is correct, it happens in America too. So, the blessings of being a American and able to afford even a little mark up is understandable. My future plans is to retire there too in the future in about 4 years, since I am getting close to retirement age soon . From US American Air Force Security Police Military Veteran who lived at Clark Air Base, Philippines. GOD bless the Philippines and GOD bless our country America to being able to afford to live in places like the Philippines.

    I'm married to a Philipina as well & we live in CA. We are also planning to move to my wife's country when we retire. She already has property & we will be building a retirement home. I have about 17 or 18 years of working left. I have been there before & the cost is so much cheaper than the US. With social security, 401k, & cash saved we should be in good shape to enjoy our golden years.

    You are so right about being taken advantage just for the color of your skin. I’m a Filipino native but grew up in America. When I come to visit, my cousins tell me not to speak too much because of being fluent in English. This way I don’t get taken advantage of. They do all the negotiating for me.

      Once house and cars are paid off and debt-free, you cannot beat the lifestyle in US especially if retiree planned and saved for retirement. If retiree is only relying on SS, then Philippines is a good option. Quality meats, groceries, clothes, shoes, cars, appliances, meds, household goods and electronics are much cheaper in US if you know where and when to buy. It is also more comfortable and convenient to retire in US. Govt transactions are fast and can be done online. Cars can be bought online, everything can be ordered online.

      @paengguin9381 Před 3 lety +4

      @@eric95209 I hope you are also paying their SS, PhilHealth and other benefits which are required by law in PI now. I value my privacy and do not want people in my house daily that I also have to feed and increase my utility costs. Did you calculate those costs? I did all the calculations line by line and added all the costs, I actually save more money in US than PI. Also, be careful who you trust in PI. I have a gardener in US that comes weekly. I can hire the sane 2 maids 2-3 times monthly in US and I can order cooked meals for delivery, eat out or cook it myself. I would rather drive my own cars which I enjoy doing and maintaining myself.
      Gardener and maids do not have to live with me which by the way is a waste of money adding benefits, utilities and food costs. I can just hire them when I need them and they have been helping me for years. I can wash my clothes in my high tech washer and dryer. Inactivity will kill you quickly, I prefer to move around so I do not get clots in my body and die of a stroke or a heart attack. High tech and beautiful appliances and cars in US make life so easy. I get stressed and paranoid every time I go to PI due to starving people that would do anything to get money. You have to be street smart and be a bit paranoid so you or your family do not become a victim. It is OK to take vacations in PI for 3-4 weeks but not to live there permanently. Non-stop lockdowns, masks and face shields make PI not fun. China will invade Taiwan soon and PI will be in the middle of WW3.

    According to "Grandpa Vlogger", you can reimburse your medical expenses when you're back to US...that is if you go back in fort between US & Philippines. I hear you, they do treat foreigners even Filipinos who are married to Americans or just retired from the US or other countries. Even the relatives do the same. They come to you with all their problems and expect you to solve it for them & trying to give you the guilty trip...So slime. They also borrow from you with no intention to pay.

    Also, if you live in Tagaytay, you have no use for aircon. We rented several different places before we built our house here and never used the aircon even once. If you have a fan in each room, you're good to go. We built our new house and it has NO aircon. We have never needed it. That's the main advantage about living in Tagaytay. I know guys who live in Cebu who run their aircon 24/7 and their electric bill is north of 10,000 pesos per month. That's the main reason I never wanted live in Cebu. If you gonna pay $200 per month for electric, you may as well live in the U.S. Our electric bill here averages $30-$40 per month -- and we have 2 large TVs and 2 large refs.

But I think your rent and food budget is on the higher side, if we live in Cagayan de Oro or Cebu or bukidnon maybe it'll be a lot cheaper. The cost of a health care policy could be around $350.00US a month and won't be as good as a Medicare policy.
    These companies selling these policies can't sell these policies in the advance countries of the world. They are filled with pitfalls like not covering pre-existing conditions and caps on payouts. They can even drop you. Once they see your health going down hill.

    Your appliances and electronics there run on 220V not 120V. So unless you want to have a transformer for every device you bring over which takes up space then you may want to reconsider bringing that stuff over. In addition your US warranty would not cover you there unless it is a worldwide warranty and even then parts might be a problem to get. While stuff there is more expensive you can still easily find good quality brands such as Panansonic, Samsung, Sony and others. As far as Filipino cooking goes I recommend going to Jerrys a few times to discover some tasty Filipino dishes that would not be difficult to cook at home. They are in most major cities.

It's not a bad place to live if you're a Foreigner with money coming in, but it's the little things we take for granted. Not speaking Tagalog and spending 90% of your time around people who don't speak your language or understand sarcasm takes it toll. So does having the Internet drop everyday, and a Government with mood swings that will straight shut down an entire town just because it's Mayor said something the President didn't agree with. I am now 52 and will retire from a US govt job in 5 years. QUALITY groceries, cars, electronics, appliances, shoes, wine, house utilities and clothes are CHEAPER in US than the Philippines. Can't beat the convenience in US and I have been to many countries. Govt and business transactions in US are more efficient, most of it can be done online. I get stressed and paranoid for my and family's safety when we are in the Philippines for vacations. I would take vacations there for 2-3 weeks tops and in other countries but SoCal is where the home/heart is. Being in SoCal is like being in the Philippines(Filipino stores and restaurants abound) with better weather, environment and efficient systems.

In US, there are plenty of sales and competition is stiff amongst all stores, that is why prices are low. You have to know when and where to buy. I am able to save lots of money because I am debt-free. I am fully insured so healthcare and dental/vision/pharmacy are very affordable. Meds are much cheaper in US now.

    Regarding Health Insurance....get a Pilhealth, it's cheap and at least will cover a portion of your health care cost than nothing, I believe around 30% then save around $100 or any amount that you can afford every month just try to stay healthy at least for a couple of years then you have that money that you can use in case of medical emergency and if you stay healthy for a longer period of time much better because you have more buffer. Healthcare here is still cheaper than in the U.S. even if you go to a world class hospital in Metro-Manila like the Asian Hospital, St. Luke Hospital, or Makati Medical it is still affordable. This is better option than buying a healthcare insurance outside which may cost you $800.00 to more than thousand dollars a month specially for a family coverage. We always go to St Luke Hospital in BGC for regular consultation and it will cost us around $17.00 dollars still not bad considering the quality of service they provide which is comparable if not better than any major hospital in the U.S. Most Doctors and Specialist there are U.S. educated or had experienced working in U.S. hospitals. These hospitals are excellent if you need critical care.

    I have traveled to Philippines for over 18 years and I am curious where you specifically had PRICE INFLATION problems?
    Because I only ever had troubles with trike drivers and a few bad taxi drivers. Otherwise never had any problems for any goods or services.

      I've been traveling to the PI for the last 30 years.. a lot has changed.... If I get hit with the "skin tax" , I move along to the next stall or store... it's really never been a problem for me.

    The BUDGET is still cheaper than living in a rat infested neighborhood here in the Mainland... I live in CA... I spend $250 a week on one sit down meal with the family. And with globalization they also have all the amenities and creature comfort that was none existent just a decade ago

    Yes, it depends on what area you live to have meat that you like. We have more of those in our capital, Metro Manila.
