- Timeshift is an FPS game based around controlling the flow of time to overthrow a dictator who has created a dystopian alternate timeline. I think anyways. They hope you haven't played Half Life 2.

Where's the LIST?
Man this is a classic game that deserves a true remake
That last sentence sounds like a threat, especially when applied to the real world
Was just thinking about replaying this gem like 2 days ago :D Insteead I started metro 2033 and before that I played throu all F.E.A.R. + both expansions

Mandalore became a window into the world of videogames you know by trailers, but never end up playing yourself.
W comment
Or alternatively the games you have forgotten you have played. I've played this waaaay back but had completely forgotten about it.
It's why I kept thinking it came out with the 360 instead of Lost Planet. It got around a ton with the trailer but then sort of fizzled.
What's crazy is this is one of the exceptions for me, I remember loving this game though I don't remember it really

@@TsunamiWombatsuch wasted talent man, baffles me they weren't given more staff and made as one of the acc devs rather than say sledgehammer
I wish Singularity got a remake. With Microsoft's acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, it seemed like the perfect opportunity.
But that's never gonna happen. Singularity is a good game, but it will forever stay the way it is - A game that comes so close to achieving greatness, had so much potential, and yet, it never quite gets there.
Just like me.
Homefront: The Revolution has an arcade cabinet that you can find with Timesplitters 2 on it. Normally it only has two levels on it but one of the devs mentioned the whole game is there. Fortunately there are codes that can unlock everything else in the game like the story, arcade, and challenges. And apparently it can also run in native 4K so it happens to be one of the best ways to play it.
Dead Island 2 has both Homefront: The Revolution AND Timesplitters Arcade Cabinets
Wait, so they smuggled an entire game within another game?
For the timespitters thing at the end of the episode, it's timesplitters 2 that's on Homefront the Revolution. It's like halfway into the game on some random arcade machine you have to input a code into to get. Also, the emulator comes with cheats that you have to put a very long button combo in right before the game screen appears, so I have very fond memories of one of my friends spending literal hours trying to input the "unlock multiplayer" code at my house.
Either way, hope Mandy reviews both games, maybe even altogether in one video.
It's actually not an emulator, but a WIP HD remaster they slapped in there.
There's also a mod out there that (along with fixing up various issues with the remaster) strips out as much of Homefront as possible while still leaving TimeSplitters 2 fully intact and bootable, in case you really don't have any interest in Homefront.
It's insane to me that it only exists because someone thought to hide it in Homefront. There's so much WIP stuff lost from the industry that it makes me think games companies should release "blooper reel" discs full of abandoned projects so that we at least have some historical record they existed.
@@DrEnzyme demo discs but rather than half of the games being canceled it's all of the games. I'm here for it
Timeshift: the most 2007 game
Yeah this game perfectly represents where the genre was just before cod 4 came out. I like to call the era between 1998 and 2007 the "Half Life/ Medal of Honor Paradigm" as those were the two most prominent franchises. I find it to be perhaps the most interesting time in fps history, even if many of the games were mediocre if not outright bad. At the very least devs were trying all sorts of new and interesting things, unlike the modern military phase from 2007-2013 where everything became one indistinguishable blob.
Edit: I'll also add Halo in as the other big fps franchise, but it kinda stood out as it's own thing with nothing to really match it except maybe Haze and the first Killszone, both of which sucked.
Also got to remember Resistance. That was Sony's answer to Gear of war lol
So, it's the Neuro of 2007?
@NinjapowerMS underrated games, they weren't the best but I enjoyed them and I say that as someone who played them quite late into the ps3 lifespan

The one thing I remember about this game is multiplayer. Oh, the sweet TimeShift multiplayer...
Like, you could throw time stop grenade between you and your friends, shoot a few mags inside the time orb and then observe them completely obliterated by the tornado of bullets resuming momentum all at once.
Or the dread of getting caught in stop-time orb and seeing like a dozen explosive crossbow bolts materislising in front of your face, realizing you're only a second away from being completely screwed.
Also, the flamethrower/SMG hybrid was very nice.
I'll be damned. Recently started studying quantum computing and all of this quantum madness had me missing this gem that I played religiously back in the day. Come to find out, you put out a review for it less than a week ago. Now THAT'S spooky action at a distance. Subscribed.
Ah finally, I´ve been waiting for the two time travelling games 😎
I love the gameplay so much, you really do feel like a superhero.
The vague setting and convoluted design is in this case good enough for me, and the weapons are so fun to balance it all out.
Like the last weapon you get looks like a mess and IS a mess. Each shot drains like 1/10th of its magazine, but theres an alternate firemode with which you can fire for a split second, using like 0.5% of its magazine but dealing the same damage/killing an enemy instantly. Oh, and the enemy also has the gun ofc.

Hell yeah. This game kicked ass. Time shift, army of two, Prey, Dark Sector, BiA Hell's Highway... I loved this era.
Resistance as well.
Army of Two is such a great co-op game. Plus it tricks fps players into learning broad-strokes rpg mechanics.
@NinjapowerMS, Resistance Fall of Man and Killzone 2. Shame Sony killed off both franchises.
@@Gruntvc I don't think Sony killed off Resistance, I think Resistance 3 killed off Resistance. The game looked exotic but played like a typical 7th gen FPS and sold poorly (about 1 million copies globally vs. Resistance 1's 3.9 million). That's enough to kill off a franchise in that era, especially when Sony was in the market for new IPs to sell 8th-gen consoles with after their 7th gen exclusives 'lost' to Microsoft's.
Still a shame, given that a million copies was still a lot for 2011, granted. And the Resistance games still sold way better than the Killzones ever did, yet Killzone survived to make an 8th-gen release.
@@Supercohboy Resistance 3 is no way in hell a typical 7th gen FPS, it didn't have regenerating health (you had to collect items to restore it), your weapons could level up and you could carry all of them (as far away from the 2-weapon limit as you could get), and it was very setpiece-driven, closer to Half-Life 2, hell, it even used the 7th gen piss filters in a clever way, where each level had a different colour, instead of all of them being brown.
It didn't sell well because the previous game was a complete dumpster fire and PS3 owners were expecting and buying different games than Xbox 360 owners. There was no place for Halo Killers in the PS3 anymore, which is a shame, since R3 is the game that I think came the closest to being one.
Dude this is freaky! I was thinking about recommending this two days ago!
Grew up on this game, awesome of u to review it. W video as always
This was one of my favorite game as a teenager, and the timeshift mechanic was unique enough to make it stick out from the other FPS's at the time.
Is it? We were literally playing a multiplayer match when this video came out!
'TimeShift' is a great description for a lotta games like this, and reviews of these games. It feels like a timeless blend of stuff like this. Hallways. Grey. Guns. Madness. MandaloreGaming.
Mandalore continues to confirm my memories of the past as reality and not hallucinations
17:02 "When it comes to a franchise you can always ignore the next entries you don't like"

Between this and Semi Ramblomatic yesterday, we've shifted into a Timeshift Renaissance
Holy shit, didn't expect a timeshift review at all. Brings back a lot of memories, remember finishing this game so many times
Some of the weapons are still imo one of the best gun ideas in any fps.
Several notes from someone that played the shit out of it back in the day:
1. The looks/performance ratio is still one of the best ones I have seen.
2. Kinda disagree about future saviour turning the tide not being shown. The first level is you witnessing the resistance getting its shit fully kicked in, and there is one scene where you see rebel pows being escorted by soldiers which is completely reversed in the last level.
3. Crossbow is indeed op. But personally thr gehena incindiary smg and thr ellectric cannon are the ones that left the best impression on me.
4. The game hss the best default grenade I have seen in my 25 years of gaming. It combine standart grenades with the sticky nades from halo while also adding electrocution effect. And not to mention that you can also be stuck but actually have a chance to survive it by reversing time, which is fucking baller mechanics as well.
5. Time stop kicks in the auto regeneration instantly so if you have low HP in combat, the suit moves the choice to time stop and you isntantly kick in the regen. Not much abusable but a good get out of jail free card to have.
6. The way multiplayer did the time powers by making it into time grenades is probably one of the best ideas about how to do the time manipulation in multiplayer games.
I think there was a multiplayer demo and I just played that the entire time xD
Crossbow gave me the sticky explosive with delay fetish
Mandalore you've shown parts of Resistance Fall of Man a few time. It makes me want a Resistance series review from you more and more from you.

There's an early 2000's time travel game I think was called Darkest Days? All I remember was a civil war guy getting a future gun and one of the level designers posted a screenshot from a Roman level on the Something Awful forums.
I played it in 2009. when it came out... it was pretty shitty then, not gonna lie, but at least the premise was intriguing.
fun fact, one of the devs who worked on Darkest of Days later went on to make Brigador
I remember playing the demo to that a bunch just because I was interested in the premise. You play as a soldier who would've died in General Custer's last stand only to get rescued/recruited by time travelers.
