  • A Full Season Later… Wemby Was Worth MORE than The Hype
He was such a special prospect, so unique, that not even one of the best coaches in the history of the league knew how to use him at the beginning. Victor Wembanyama's skillset was so unseen…no, was so UNIMAGINABLE. Many scouts and fans knew before he debuted in the NBA. However, after jumping to the US, his ability to exceed expectations seems incredible. I mean... fans were expecting him to become a star in a few years. Instead, he has managed to do it in a few months. And now people are wondering... What EVEN is his ceiling? In a similar fashion to LeBron James, the Frenchman arrived with the label of the "Chosen One". The pressure he has had to endure since he was 16 years old has been inhuman. However, like King James during his first season, Wemby has managed to turn that possibility...into a reality.
In today's video we look at the next NBA Phenom Victor Wembanyama and how he 's better than advertised. ..Keep watching to see victor wembanyama, victor wembanyama spurs, victor wembanyama highlights, victor wembanyama draft, victor wembanyama nba, victor wembanyama to the spurs, victor wembanyama france, victor wembanyama nba draft, victor wembanyama destined to be a spur ,victor wembanyama interview, victor vs chet, victor wembanyama dunks, San Antonio Spurs, Spurs, SAS, Gregg Popovich, Spurs Dynasty, Victor Alien, Kevin Durant, Phoenix Suns, KD, Durant, Durantula, Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, Zach Collins, FIBA, France Basketball, Rudy Gobert, Lebron James, Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant

While he is definitely cut from a cloth more similar to Tim Duncan than those other greats you mentioned, I think Wemby is actually pretty cutthroat…mamba-ish. He cares about matchups and understands when people are trying to bully him. He rises to the challenge of facing top players. He lets his game do most of the talking, but he’s shown emotion in matchups that are meaningful to him.

I don’t trust people saying Wemby is not like jordan or kobe, and he’s more like a Duncan. WRONG WRONG WRONG. They are the ones who actually does not watch spurs games. While wemby is a very team-oriented guy and very coachable, he is not Timmy attitude-wise. Wemby is a straight DAWG. Whenever someone manages to show up on him, he always gets his revenge. He never shied with any, I mean any matchups.
If you block him, he’ll block you right away (jared allen).
If you dunk on him, he’ll dunk on you too (AD, Wagner, Trace).
If you taunt him, he’ll destroy you the next game (knicks, claxton).
If you challenge him to an award, he’ll show you who’s boss (Chet).

@nWoPorViDa I don't think you have a full grasp of his popularity. In 2023 he was the 3rd most searched NBA player online behind LeBrob and Steph, and that was before he completely broke out this year.
If you watch NBA search trends on Google, Spurs games with Wemby playing often outrank every other team by a large margin.
That is insane star power for someone who hasn't even finished a full season.

@@explosivehotdogs good points, technically with so many eyes on basketball now, social media etc. Of course wemby has a lot more hype by the sheer numbers, that's true no doubt, but basketball wasnt nearly as popular of a sport at the time and no mass promoting from social media etc, pre civil rights movement "attitudes" would hinder his media coverage (what existed at the time) but by the time Chamberlain was 21, he had already been featured in Time, Life, Look, and Newsweek magazines, even before he turned professional, and was generating almost mythical stories even as far back as high school, forced rule changes in the nba while he was in college, played for the harlem globetrotters before joining the nba also haha wilt today, especially with his ego and charisma would be probably more popular than wemby given the same "narrative/hype" machines wemby has(not that he doesnt deserve it, personally I think wemby could end up a top 10 player all time, needs to stay healthy and have more team success ofc but I'm super excited to see how great he becomes)

just because the spurs have a bad record doesn't mean they arent good. You havent been watching. within the last 2 months, team has been playing much better. In many of the games, they have been either winning or neck and neck. The big difference, is down the strech, their inexperience shows. Case in point, they took a 76ers team to double overtime before losing. in that game the spurs had a lead but due to mental errors gave it up in last seconds of the 4th quarter. This was a game they should have won.
I think Pop was trying to figure out the best combination and how to use Victor effectively why still allowing the young players to delevlop and grow and play team ball.
The Souchan experiement was I think to use him and develope his decision making, passing, and to use his height for defensive purposes. when pop moved him back to his normal spot of PF, his game really improved.
Trey Jones has done a much better job at the point. as does the backup Blake Wesley.
