Yeah you'd think its a "good team" but the spurs went between 2007-2013 without making a finals, and still make zero big changes to capitalize on Duncan's last few years. Instead they build on a young Kawhi, and other players they go without big trades. Big trades rarely if ever work, and SA is not a market that players want to be in for a long term. Wemby doesn't require a trade. He just requires them to add talent in the draft and build around him. Just like them getting Tony/Manu and others to build around Duncan when the team he was drafted to were all retired within 4 years@@surenick3460

But in terms of in the future, I think having the right PF playin along side him is gonna be really important. Depending on how Wemby's game develops over the years will determine what type of PF best suits along side him.

I would say that a pg who can regularly create advantages by getting two on the ball and having the passing ability to create good looks for his teammates is more important than having a pg who is pass first. I know wemby needs people who can get him the ball better than his current teammates but pursuing a pass first guard would be an overcorrection imo.

i think Trae could help Wemby become who he needs to be by getting him the ball where he can get to work. Wemby will get his touches, he’s better than Trae already. Trae would be good be the clear #2 and they could grow together, plus Wemby can cover up his defense, even though he’s better than he used to be.

Haven’t really followed the draft process at all, but it seems like there aren’t gonna be many PGs in the top 10 (unless someone really jumps up in teams estimations between now and June). I think it’s gonna be best not to force it. You either draft bpa, or you consider trade down options so that you can position yourself to draft the guard you want. I reckon free agency will be a nice option where quite often there are solid players you can get at around $5-15mil like a Tyus Jones.

Having Tre Young, Giddey and Vic would be a pretty nice lineup. I think a healthy Ben Simmons that does the defense and playmaker too, would be nice in that line up also. Granted having him get better without that many stars or big names could help him out even more.

Same with Tre, Tre isn’t as bad as he was, like two years ago, I think Ben and Vic could hide it also. Now Tre isn’t good at defense I’m not saying he is, but he could improve again, in turns on reading what the offense is doing instead of staying in front of his man.

    When we talk about this,
I hope spurs to target two special guys:
    Isaac & Avdija.
This season Wemby is often defending two or more guys at same time, he needs some help.
If Isaac joins us, we can play swishing defense on front court sooooo well.
Plus, we can avoid Wemby losing stamina quickly.
then imagine we put wizard's Avdija along with Wemby & Isaac.
Solid defense + iso + a little bit playmaking.
Sounds like Ben Simmons with shoot + good attitude and only 4yrs/5500M.
    If we go lucky,
we may have the starters line like this:
    Wemby
    Isaac
    Avdija
    Vassell
Plus our own 2024 1st pick to backup.
We all know pop's great at developing offense in DEFENSIVE TALENTS.
Sarr, Resacher and maybe Topic are all good additions to us.
Even if we finally go for Trae with Hawk's picks,
this kind of defensive starters line will make it more acceptable.

  • @crashlight54
    @crashlight54 Před 2 měsíci

Ideally, they'll give him at least two guys who can get him the ball where he wants it and when. Then a couple 3 and d guys who are also willing passers. Wemby's backup would be the hardest to find, since ideally you'd like some consistency with your playstyle, but nobody plays like him, so maybe a handoff hub center like Plumlee or Poetl? Not necessarily those guys specifically, but a similar type of player. Tre Jones seems like a keeper, though likely as a backup floor general type point guard. Keldon Johnson is a respectable play finisher with a decent assist to turnover ratio, but I know nothing about his defense or actual fit. If Sochan's three ball continues to improve, then he'll grow into the type of wing everyone wants, I can easily see him being a keeper. Vassell is a big question mark, but is on the trajectory to being a keeper as well. Basically, the team absolutely needs a real primary ball handler and continued progression from Vassell and Sochan, then maybe replace Keldon with a 3 D and C (cut) wing if he doesn't fit

I think if you have another guy that can block you don't need Wemby always there. You can use him to scare people farther from the basket for even trying and allow him to be a help side defender more often, which is usually where blockers excel. I also think it will release Wemby from rebounding duty and let him move faster to offense where he can create easy mismatches to get the ball quickly and score. Also they can flip, Wemby can play center 25 minutes, and Sarr can play center 25 minutes. With Wemby playing 10 minutes at PF. *Go big. Point 6'5 minimum twin towers in the front court. Victor likes to do pull-ups and play off the screen as the ball handler and already has a great vision for pocket passes.
    * A strong PF rebounder. I know Victor doesn't want to get big and I have seen this hinder his rebounding by being pushed out the paint by box outs and depending on his height.
    * A CP3 or bronny James type point guard defensive athletic intelligent pass first archetype. I prefer more of a lethal slashing pull-up mid-range point guard than an elite 3 point shooter to spam pick and rolls who can hit very precise passes like LeBron James does full court to AD. We already know Victor is a Lob Threat and potentially a pick and pop threat and adding an elite mid-range Slasher at the point would be tough to pick and choose

    1. Pass first PG with at least decent perimeter defense. Trae is amazing, but he's not exactly a great defender. If he's the best they can get, they should go for him. But trading for him means handing out at least 3 future firsts. This could seriously backfire. Alternative: Go for a solid vet, similar to what Minnesota did with Conley.
    2. A strong forward that can shoot the ball and facilitate if needed. Basically something like Aaron Gordon. But these players are RARE. Rui maybe? But I doubt the Lakers would want to trade him. Collins always comes up in these discussions, but he's not that great.
    3. Build through the next 2 drafts. They will be better next season, but they still should be able to get a decent pick. The 2025 draft is projected to be strong.
Overall, there's no rush. Wemby is 20. 2-3 more years of solid rebuilding is the way to go. Please no mediocre "win maybe" moves, because that's what franchises like the Pistons and the Wizards do. And you don't wanna be be like those.

You need to surround him with elite role players that fit his play style before looking for a 2nd and 3rd option…. Hell he’s so special he might not need a 2nd option, with this trash team in his rookie year you EXPECT him to erase a 10 point lead on almost any team. He’s the best paint defender in the league already imo, I think the best thing they can do is surrounded him with the best perimeter players they can find on both sides of the ball, wemby can straight up own the paint on both ends of the floor against everyone, Giannas embid and jokic included. When this man gets 40-50 pounds on his frame over the next few years, he’s literally gonna be the paint god, give him shooters and perimeter defenders and he’s gonna walk to a lot of chips…. as a Celtics fan it’s hard to watch this, first we had to wait for bron to get old, now there’s this big soda drinking god from Serbia in Denver and a legit alien in San Antonio, everyone better get ready for the next decade of chips to be decided in the WCF 🥲
