To all the comments saying Wilt Chamberlain had a 48 inch vertical. This was never actually recorded or proven. Wilt said in an interview that in his prime his vertical jump was at least 46-48 inches. Because it's only speculation we chose to leave him off of this list.

That man was a high jumper. He was a sprinter and threw the shot put. Yall just don't realize how ridiculously athletic he was. We are talking about a 7'1. 275 lbs man with the strength of Shaq and the vertical of Zion. The speed of LeBron...Oh yea remind me who played the most minutes per game? His stamina was better than any of these athletes.

@@united_states512 If you're replying to me, those guys aren't as goid athletes as Wilt. As the guy said, he could run really fast, almost like most guards, 7'1" with I think 7'8" wing spam, vert higher than Jordan, the guy said Wilt broke his toe when Wilt Chamberlain blocked his shot and the ball hit his toe, he dislocated a mens shoulder with the block, it's all confirmed by NBA players who played in his era, you couldn't guard him same twice, and even if you try to guard him, he would crush you.

Add on to his hardwork, competitiveness, firepower, leadership, confidence and want to be the very best, thats why hes the GOAT. Agreed. Big time leaping is a hell of a tool to have but you have to be able to play the game first. You need to be able to understand how the plays are developing on both ends of the court. You need to know how and where to move with or without the ball. You need some go to moves and some countermoves for when they commit to stopping your primary stuff.
Like Skyline said, Larry Bird had the vertical leap of a sumo wrestler and he'd kill most of the guys on this list.

Wilt was a shotput thrower, a champion high jumper, a track star and a triple jumper back in college. The guy was rumored to have a 54 inch vertical (and indeed was). There's a famous pic of him while he was a track star in college, showing him jumping straight up next to a high-jump bar. He was about 54 inches off the ground when the photo was taken (it won the photographer an award). Wilt wasn't sure if he was on the way up or on the way down. Even when he was playing volleyball, he'd often be photographed spiking the ball, and his waist would be over the net. Wilt is described by Sports Illustrated as the finest athletic construction made of flesh and blood. Just because you're a great dunker doesn't make your vertical leap high

During the early 80s, there was a contest to see how high a player could dunk on a rim, they kept elevating the rim after each dunk. They had to stop the contest at like 13 feet cause the rig they used would not go any higher but Clyde Drexler was easily able to dunk at that ridiculous height, looked inhuman.

What's crazy is that Zion is 285 lbs. No wonder he is always injured.
