ok you are still seeing things through the lens of a westerner. China does not export its culture, it is not looking expand its borders, it does not prescribe a form of government that you must have to have to do business with it. So how does doing business with China infringe on Pak. sovereignty ? It is called foreign direct investment, if you get a mortgage to buy a house you got to pay it back. Would you call everyone a slave to the bank?
China was poor in the past, it could not assist it's friends when it needed help it self. OBOR will be good for Pakistan way more than anything anyone else can offer it.

China loves to "invest" in countries and leverage their financial weakness to satisfy their terms to arrest them in permanent favours. Don't believe me? Look at Hambantota in Sri Lanka, heck look at how they're acting over their control in Gwadar.
You're severely misinformed about China's supposed poverty in the past. Did they not beat India in the Sino Indian war? Fact of the matter is, China is a fair weather friend and you're choosing to look the other way. Have fun.

China has border disputes with almost every neighbor and south china dispute is going on for years where even UN gave out a statement that it can't say that entire sea belongs to them , still they built artificial islands in the sea and militarized it first and still accuses other countries for their war ships going through that sea . Pakistan already lost the Gwadar port because it can't pay out the debt to china and 17000 chinese troops are in pakistan sent by china, and now the amount of debt is piling up , Pak can't do anything except give into china and give out more land

It is so sad that the people in the US are taught to be very patriotic to the point where any criticism is taken as a personal insult.
We are all on planet Earth and we should be able to call out any country for putting other countries at risk, or human rights abuses in whichever country is perpetrating them, without Americans feeling as though we criticise a family member.
I have no illusions about my country. I am British/Irish and since Thatcher in the 1980's this country has been working against the citizens own interests unless you are very wealthy. If you are, you are a selfish and inhumane person to support your personal wealth over everyone else's well being. That is why we have a phenomenon called the Shy Tory (Tories are the UK Conservative Party)
These people know the damage the right wing fiscal policies are decimating all the social care programmes like the NHS, help for the disabled and elderly, there's too many to count, and these people can afford to pay reasonable taxes, like Ricky Gervais said to Letterman when he was asked if he would move to the US to avoid paying his taxes, Ricky said No, he wants to give back. He has a mansion in Hampstead, (it's very nice, I have a friend who lives in the same street) and is very comfortable.
Another country that makes excuses for it's brutal human rights abuses is Israel.
Despite the appalling treatment of the Palestinians, anyone who supports the BDS movement (Boycott Divest Sanction) is accused of anti-Semitism, even by some secular Jews. It's bullshit, Israeli troops attack children and recently shot dead a man with no legs who was protesting peacefully, and they have arrested a 16 year old girl Ahmed Tammimi (sp?) for slapping an Israeli soldier after he shot her brother in the face at point blank range with a rubber bullet. She is also being accused of stone throwing which carries a sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment.
The US is supporting this regime financially and with weapons.
The US treats it's own citizens with contempt, it's the only western country without universal health care, that has the death penalty, very little protection for the disabled and elderly including veterans. There's supposed to be separation of church and state yet Evangelical Christians are the most powerful political force in the country.
Public education is terrible, and higher education is ridiculously expensive, and the only way a country moves forward is through education.
In Germany education is free, up to PhD if one is so inclined. Not only for Germans, but for anyone in the EU.
It used to be that way in the UK, but nearly 4 decades of undermining students and we have idiots voting for Brexit.
I see people online who actually believe we have no go zones for non Muslims in the country!! Some dude on Fox had to apologise when interviewed on TV, but the damage was already done.
We all have a vested interest in protecting the world and every living thing in it.
So if people criticize the US and the point has merit, don't take it personally. We all want everyone to do better.

Bin Laden was at the time Mujahedin in Afghanistan.
Some of the resentment against the US in that area is back from the time just after the Afghan-Soviet war!
The US had given the Afghan freedom fighters the impression that they would continue to recieve help when the war ended - but as soon as the Soviet troops started leaving, all funds to Afghanistan stopped - these broken promises was a gift to the Talibans who quickly seized the power!
Had the US kept its promises, then there would have been much more resistance towards the Talibans from the start!
It is important to remember that Langley didn't continue to fund the Mujahedins after the war, and they didn't create Bin Laden, he was just an allied for a duration of time!

The sponsorship of the Mujahedins happened before the "war on terror"!
It's not that I don't get what you mean, it's just that I hate when people get things mixed up!
What I find ironic is, that of all the money that have been spent on this so called "war on terror" most have been spent on waging the "war" and very little has been spend on winning it - and the only way you can really win a war, is by winning the peace!
If the US, after the Afghan-Soviet war, had continued its support to Afghanistan, (but shifted to developement projects instead of weapons), and perhaps even tried getting the UN on board with it, maybe we could have avoided the current conflict in Afghanistan!

I don't really like China, but at least they are smart and taking advantage of Trump's idiocy.
However, despite all, it is good news to see North and South Korea have at least some sort of approach. It really seems like Kim Jong Un thinks "Man, that Trump guy is so crazy. Guess I'm now the good guy in comparison."

    • @TheYasmineFlower
      @TheYasmineFlower Před 6 lety +12

It also plays into North Korean propaganda - they're already driving the (very easy to drive) narrative that the US is evil. For Trump to pull so many crazy stunts is probably the best gift KJU could have asked for - he gets to appear to not be wrong AND he gets to do things that Trump won't do, because they aren't evil anymore since the US isn't involved.
I wonder if ANYONE in the WH realizes that they are playing into the hands of Russia, North Korea, China... pretty much everyone.

No Trevor, just because you went with your perception of pakistan doesnt mean ' maybe trump is right' - do yourself a favor: have one of writers/researchers look around som documents about US aidto pak since 9/11.
In short, what the US has been paying Pakistan is not aid but compensation for using our ports/ rods/ airbases et. al. - a partnership termed 'Non-Nato Ally".
Do some math conpensation aside, you won't find max $50 mil per annum since 2001 - then figure the number with the lives Pakistan has lost, the bloated defense budget aside we now need a fat sum for domestic law enforcmen as well.
"AID TO PAKISTAN" is a poliltical talking point in US and nothing more.
As for China, like US, China has every right to expand her economic n geo political inflence - itjust so happens they are doing it From Russia to SriLanka, and through central Asia to Europe. And they are doing it without infringing on socierngyt of any nation, without bombing anyone and actually investing in these countries in sectors they deem profitable. US, on the contrary, has been a whiny bitch since her alliance with Pakistan started.
*Feeel freee to make joke about thes spell erors - my keyboard is fucked - atleast, I'd know you might have read it and put an intern to work.

You should see how the *Africans perceive Chinese companies exploiting their land for resources.*
Oh how China "expands its influence" by not punishing the fishers who steal resources from all over the world, all the way to Argentina. Or by never registering legal claims made by foreign businesses when Chinese government-puppeteered businesses constantly steal their IP and research.
And when you blame America for Pakistan's failure to come up with funding for their infrastructure, that's like blaming America for "provoking Japan to attack Pearl Harbor" when America refused to export anymore oil when Japan refused to stop killing and raping Chinese civilians.
