Linda Ronstadt was the best vocalist of all time! She left the songwriting mostly to others, but performed to excellence and acclaim in a wide range of genres.
She started as a country singer; made original hits and covers from everybody including Buddy Holly, Smokey Robinson, Roy Orbison, The Eagles, The Everly Brothers, The Rolling Stones, J.D. Souther, Neil Young, Chuck Berry, Warren Zevon, a number from Motown, and many others. Her work with Nelson Riddle Orchestra covering torch songs like "Someone To Watch Over Me". Trio with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. "Don't Know Much" with Aaron Neville. New wave album "Mad Love". "Somewhere Out There". She went back to her Mexican roots with album "Canciones de Mi Padre".

Great song, but one thing listening to a song can't express is how it triggers a memory from 50 years ago when I was five years old listen to this song, while my mother crying on the couch. I couldn't understand why it made her cry. However, all these years later, this song brings me right back to those summer days of 1972. I love seeing the younger generation pickup these great songs and putting them in the spotlight. Linda Ronstadt had the voice of an angel.

Better tone than Streisand, who sounds very nasal and not to everyone's taste. Linda has arguably the best tone of any soprano in the last 100 years. I would agree, though, that her tone is equal to Karen Carpenter, who also had the best contralto tone in recent history.

Daniel please take a moment to appreciate all of Linda‘s hits. She started out with rock songs and then ballads and then moved onto country, classic swing tunes, Spanish heritage music, show tunes, and many many more genres, all in which she scored hits. Unfortunately her voice was silenced and she can barely talk much less thing now. It’s very sad. But not only did she give us great music from her own voice, she is responsible for giving us the Eagles and their long string of hits.

Some great live versions of her singing this on TV shows can be easily found. For me, Linda and Karen Carpenter had the best ever voices for conveying emotion (especially feelings of melancholy/longing). Her "Heart Like a Wheel" album is a high watermark of recorded music -- preserved as such in the National Library of Congress' recording registry. I think the title track from it is the best thing she ever did. Since it isn't well-known, though, I'll suggest "Different Drum" (from her early-folk period), "Faithless Love" or "When Will I Be Loved/Willin'" (two short songs without a break between them that have a somewhat related theme).

Faithless Love is great. Hasten Down the Wind is another one - - short, but sweet, and also sad.

Linda was the best. I loved her. She didn't write this song, by the way, but she sure delivers the emotions.😎

She was stuck in the 'friend zone' with this person she was desperately in love with. Everyone has been there done that, that's why this song is so damn powerful. I remember staring at this album cover at the age of 8 for hours completely infatuated with her. I also remember listening to this song and crying...I didn't even know what she was singing about, but I felt the pain in her voice. She will always be in my heart... ❤

There was a time when Linda Ronstadt was also known as the Queen of the Remake, as a lot of her hits were remakes of other peoples songs. The thing is, her versions seemed to always be the ones that were hits. She was great at the remakes. I really liked when she did her Spanish album...that was a different side and showed off her incredible voice once again.

I love Linda Ronstadt, but I definitely prefer Dee Dee Warwick's version of "You're No Good" and Doris Troy's version of "Just One Look"

Linda had some songs that were her own but preferred to do a cover in a new way. She only picked songs that reflected her own experience and that’s why she felt them through her soul. Even Mick Jagger wanted her record Tumbling Dice and she did it! This song was written by a friend of hers but who could sing it any better than that interpretation. Just beautiful!

Wow, it's been more than a few years since I heard this, but the impact it has and the sheer quality of the vocals never change, thank you Daniel! It prompted me to go look at her 2014 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and I was surprised to find that she was so closely linked to the formation of the Eagles, having had Frey and Don Henley in her backing band in the early 70s - fascinating!

Just to add some; All 4 of The Eagles (Frey, Henley, Bernie Leadon & Randy Miesner) played in Linda's band, just not usually at the same time. I THINK all 4 did play on 1 album of hers, but all 4 only played live together once (a gig Linda did at Disneyland). When Frey & Henley told her they wanted to form a band, she suggested they both come on tour with her (to experience touring, first hand) & put them in the same hotel/motel rooms (so they could work on writing songs for their future band). She also suggested Leadon for their group & someone connected with her (I can't recall who) then suggested Meisner. At the R&R Hall of Fame, when Frey said "she, more than anyone else, helped us put together The Eagles...", he really meant it.

If you like songs about unrequited love, there is a classic of the genre. Try this video: Ray Charles - You Don't Know Me (Live 1964)

I believe Linda sang this in the late 60s and it’s ironic that it is what I went through this millennium incredible storytelling with that remarkable voice any of her other songs are incredible as well.

Such a powerfully plaintive song…Prisoner in Disguise is another along the same vein…I love theses , but I think I’ve come to love Linda’s Spanish language works even more; particularly the more high energy ones such as La Cerreda (sic?). Her voice was such a blessing to hear
